使徒の働き 14
1 イコニオムでも、ふたりは連れ立ってユダヤ人の会堂にはいり、話をすると、ユダヤ人もギリシヤ人も大ぜいの人々が信仰にはいった。
And it came to pass in Iconium, that they went both together into the synagogue of the Jews, and so spake, that a great multitude both of the Jews and also of the Greeks believed.
2 しかし、信じようとしないユダヤ人たちは、異邦人たちをそそのかして、兄弟たちに対し悪意を抱かせた。
But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles, and made their minds evil affected against the brethren.
3 それでも、ふたりは長らく滞在し、主によって大胆に語った。主は、彼らの手にしるしと不思議なわざを行なわせ、御恵みのことばの証明をされた。
Long time therefore abode they speaking boldly in Yahushua, which gave testimony unto the word of his favour, and granted signs and wonders to be done by their hands.
4 ところが、町の人々は二派に分かれ、ある者はユダヤ人の側につき、ある者は使徒たちの側についた。
But the multitude of the city was divided: and part held with the Jews, and part with the apostles.
5 異邦人とユダヤ人が彼らの指導者たちといっしょになって、使徒たちをはずかしめて、石打ちにしようと企てたとき、
And when there was an assault made both of the Gentiles, and also of the Jews with their rulers, to use them despitefully, and to stone them,
6 ふたりはそれを知って、ルカオニヤの町であるルステラとデルベ、およびその付近の地方に難を避け、
They were ware of it, and fled unto Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and unto the region that lieth round about:
7 そこで福音の宣教を続けた。
And there they preached the gospel.
8 ルステラでのことであるが、ある足のきかない人がすわっていた。彼は生まれながらの足なえで、歩いたことがなかった。
And there sat a certain man at Lystra, impotent in his feet, being a cripple from his mother's womb, who never had walked:
9 この人がパウロの話すことに耳を傾けていた。パウロは彼に目を留め、いやされる信仰があるのを見て、
The same heard Paul speak: who stedfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed,
10 大声で、「自分の足で、まっすぐに立ちなさい。」と言った。すると彼は飛び上がって、歩き出した。
Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked.
11 パウロのしたことを見た群衆は、声を張り上げ、ルカオニヤ語で、「神々が人間の姿をとって、私たちのところにお下りになったのだ。」と言った。
And when the people saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The mighty ones are come down to us in the likeness of men.
12 そして、バルナバをゼウスと呼び、パウロがおもに話す人であったので、パウロをヘルメスと呼んだ。
And they called Barnabas, Jupiter; and Paul, Mercurius, because he was the chief speaker.
13 すると、町の門の前にあるゼウス神殿の祭司は、雄牛数頭と花飾りを門の前に携えて来て、群衆といっしょに、いけにえをささげようとした。
Then the priest of Jupiter, which was before their city, brought oxen and garlands unto the gates, and would have done sacrifice with the people.
14 これを聞いた使徒たち、バルナバとパウロは、衣を裂いて、群衆の中に駆け込み、叫びながら、
Which when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of, they rent their clothes, and ran in among the people, crying out,
15 言った。「皆さん。どうしてこんなことをするのですか。私たちも皆さんと同じ人間です。そして、あなたがたがこのようなむなしいことを捨てて、天と地と海とその中にあるすべてのものをお造りになった生ける神に立ち返るように、福音を宣べ伝えている者たちです。
And saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto the living Elohim, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein:
16 過ぎ去った時代には、神はあらゆる国の人々がそれぞれ自分の道を歩むことを許しておられました。
Who in times past suffered all nations to walk in their own ways.
17 とはいえ、ご自身のことをあかししないでおられたのではありません。すなわち、恵みをもって、天から雨を降らせ、実りの季節を与え、食物と喜びとで、あなたがたの心を満たしてくださったのです。」
Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.
18 こう言って、ようやくのことで、群衆が彼らにいけにえをささげるのをやめさせた。
And with these sayings scarce restrained they the people, that they had not done sacrifice unto them.
19 ところが、アンテオケとイコニオムからユダヤ人たちが来て、群衆を抱き込み、パウロを石打ちにし、死んだものと思って、町の外に引きずり出した。
And there came thither certain Jews from Antioch and Iconium, who persuaded the people, and, having stoned Paul, drew him out of the city, supposing he had been dead.
20 しかし、弟子たちがパウロを取り囲んでいると、彼は立ち上がって町にはいって行った。その翌日、彼はバルナバとともにデルベに向かった。
Howbeit, as the disciples stood round about him, he rose up, and came into the city: and the next day he departed with Barnabas to Derbe.
21 彼らはその町で福音を宣べ、多くの人を弟子としてから、ルステラとイコニオムとアンテオケとに引き返して、
And when they had preached the gospel to that city, and had taught many, they returned again to Lystra, and to Iconium, and Antioch,
22 弟子たちの心を強め、この信仰にしっかりとどまるように勧め、「私たちが神の国にはいるには、多くの苦しみを経なければならない。」と言った。
Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of YHWH.
23 また、彼らのために教会ごとに長老たちを選び、断食をして祈って後、彼らをその信じていた主にゆだねた。
And when they had ordained them elders in every assembly, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to Yahushua, on whom they believed.
24 ふたりはピシデヤを通ってパンフリヤに着き、
And after they had passed throughout Pisidia, they came to Pamphylia.
25 ペルガでみことばを語ってから、アタリヤに下り、
And when they had preached the word in Perga, they went down into Attalia:
26 そこから船でアンテオケに帰った。そこは、彼らがいま成し遂げた働きのために、以前神の恵みにゆだねられて送り出された所であった。
And thence sailed to Antioch, from whence they had been recommended to the favour of YHWH for the work which they fulfilled.
27 そこに着くと、教会の人々を集め、神が彼らとともにいて行なわれたすべてのことと、異邦人に信仰の門を開いてくださったこととを報告した。
And when they were come, and had gathered the assembly together, they rehearsed all that YHWH had done with them, and how he had opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles.
28 そして、彼らはかなり長い期間を弟子たちとともに過ごした。
And there they abode long time with the disciples.
