テモテへの手紙第一 2
1 そこで、まず初めに、このことを勧めます。すべての人のために、また王とすべての高い地位にある人たちのために願い、祈り、とりなし、感謝がささげられるようにしなさい。
I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
2 それは、私たちが敬虔に、また、威厳をもって、平安で静かな一生を過ごすためです。
For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
3 そうすることは、私たちの救い主である神の御前において良いことであり、喜ばれることなのです。
For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
4 神は、すべての人が救われて、真理を知るようになるのを望んでおられます。
Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
5 神は唯一です。また、神と人との間の仲介者も唯一であって、それは人としてのキリスト・イエスです。
For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
6 キリストは、すべての人の贖いの代価として、ご自身をお与えになりました。これが時至ってなされたあかしなのです。
Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
7 そのあかしのために、私は宣伝者また使徒に任じられ――私は真実を言っており、うそは言いません。――信仰と真理を異邦人に教える教師とされました。
Unto which I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not; ) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity.
8 ですから、私は願うのです。男は、怒ったり言い争ったりすることなく、どこででもきよい手を上げて祈るようにしなさい。
I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.
9 同じように女も、つつましい身なりで、控えめに慎み深く身を飾り、はでな髪の形とか、金や真珠や高価な衣服によってではなく、
In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with reverence and sobriety; not with braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;
10 むしろ、神を敬うと言っている女にふさわしく、良い行ないを自分の飾りとしなさい。
But (which becomes women professing godliness) with good works.
11 女は、静かにして、よく従う心をもって教えを受けなさい。
Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.
12 私は、女が教えたり男を支配したりすることを許しません。ただ、黙っていなさい。
But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
13 アダムが初めに造られ、次にエバが造られたからです。
For Adam was first formed, then Eve.
14 また、アダムは惑わされなかったが、女は惑わされてしまい、あやまちを犯しました。
And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
15 しかし、女が慎みをもって、信仰と愛ときよさとを保つなら、子を産むことによって救われます。
Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and love (agape) and holiness with sobriety.
