テサロニケ人への手紙第一 5
1 兄弟たち。それらがいつなのか、またどういう時かについては、あなたがたは私たちに書いてもらう必要がありません。
Brothers and sisters, we don't need to write anything to you about prophetic times and dates.
2 主の日が夜中の盗人のように来るということは、あなたがた自身がよく承知しているからです。
You yourselves know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.
3 人々が「平和だ。安全だ。」と言っているそのようなときに、突如として滅びが彼らに襲いかかります。ちょうど妊婦に産みの苦しみが臨むようなもので、それをのがれることは決してできません。
When people talk about peace and security suddenly they will be completely ruined. It will be just like the sudden onset of childbirth, and they certainly won't escape.
4 しかし、兄弟たち。あなたがたは暗やみの中にはいないのですから、その日が、盗人のようにあなたがたを襲うことはありません。
But you, brothers and sisters, are not in the dark about this so that you won't be caught by surprise when the Day of Judgment arrives suddenly like a thief.
5 あなたがたはみな、光の子ども、昼の子どもだからです。私たちは、夜や暗やみの者ではありません。
For you are all children of light and children of the day. We don't belong to the night or to darkness.
6 ですから、ほかの人々のように眠っていないで、目をさまして、慎み深くしていましょう。
So then we shouldn't be sleeping like everybody else—we should stay awake and keep ourselves clear-headed.
7 眠る者は夜眠り、酔う者は夜酔うからです。
For it's during the night that people sleep; and it's at night that they get drunk.
8 しかし、私たちは昼の者なので、信仰と愛を胸当てとして着け、救いの望みをかぶととしてかぶって、慎み深くしていましょう。
But since we belong to the day we should keep our heads clear, strapping on the breastplate of trust and love, and putting on as a helmet the hope of salvation.
9 神は、私たちが御怒りに会うようにお定めになったのではなく、主イエス・キリストにあって救いを得るようにお定めになったからです。
For God hasn't placed us in a position to be punished, but has reserved us for salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.
10 主が私たちのために死んでくださったのは、私たちが、目ざめていても、眠っていても、主とともに生きるためです。
He's the one who died for us so that whether we're alive or dead we shall live together with him.
11 ですから、あなたがたは、今しているとおり、互いに励まし合い、互いに徳を高め合いなさい。
So encourage and strengthen one another, just as you are doing.
12 兄弟たちよ。あなたがたにお願いします。あなたがたの間で労苦し、主にあってあなたがたを指導し、訓戒している人々を認めなさい。
Brothers and sisters, we're asking you to respect those who work with you, who lead you in the Lord and teach you.
13 その務めのゆえに、愛をもって深い尊敬を払いなさい。お互いの間に平和を保ちなさい。
You should value them highly in love for the work they do. Live in peace with each other.
14 兄弟たち。あなたがたに勧告します。気ままな者を戒め、小心な者を励まし、弱い者を助け、すべての人に対して寛容でありなさい。
We urge you, brothers and sisters, to warn those who are lazy, encourage those who are anxious, help those who are weak, and be patient with everyone.
15 だれも悪をもって悪に報いないように気をつけ、お互いの間で、またすべての人に対して、いつも善を行なうよう務めなさい。
Make sure none of you pays back evil for evil, but always try to do good to one another, and to everyone.
16 いつも喜んでいなさい。
Always be full of joy,
17 絶えず祈りなさい。
never stop praying,
18 すべての事について、感謝しなさい。これが、キリスト・イエスにあって神があなたがたに望んでおられることです。
be thankful in every situation—because this is what God in Christ Jesus wants you to do.
19 御霊を消してはなりません。
Don't hold the Spirit back,
20 預言をないがしろにしてはいけません。
don't look down on prophecy,
21 すべてのことを見分けて、ほんとうに良いものを堅く守りなさい。
make sure to check everything. Hold onto whatever is good;
22 悪はどんな悪でも避けなさい。
keep away from every kind of evil.
23 平和の神ご自身が、あなたがたを全くきよめてくださいますように。主イエス・キリストの来臨のとき、責められるところのないように、あなたがたの霊、たましい、からだが完全に守られますように。
May the God of peace himself make you completely holy, and may your whole being—body, mind and spirit—be kept blameless for when our Lord Jesus Christ returns.
24 あなたがたを召された方は真実ですから、きっとそのことをしてくださいます。
The one who calls you is trustworthy, and he will do this.
25 兄弟たち。私たちのためにも祈ってください。
Brothers and sisters, pray for us.
26 すべての兄弟たちに、きよい口づけをもってあいさつをなさい。
Greet all the believers there affectionately.
27 この手紙がすべての兄弟たちに読まれるように、主によって命じます。
I'm requiring you by the Lord that this letter be read to all the believers.
28 私たちの主イエス・キリストの恵みが、あなたがたとともにありますように。
May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
