テサロニケ人への手紙第一 4
1 終わりに、兄弟たちよ。主イエスにあって、お願いし、また勧告します。あなたがたはどのように歩んで神を喜ばすべきかを私たちから学んだように、また、事実いまあなたがたが歩んでいるように、ますますそのように歩んでください。
Furthermore then we plead to you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as all of you have received of us how all of you ought to walk and to please God, so all of you would abound more and more.
2 私たちが、主イエスによって、どんな命令をあなたがたに授けたかを、あなたがたは知っています。
For all of you know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus.
3 神のみこころは、あなたがたがきよくなることです。あなたがたが不品行を避け、
For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that all of you should abstain from fornication:
4 各自わきまえて、自分のからだを、きよく、また尊く保ち、
That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour;
5 神を知らない異邦人のように情欲におぼれず、
Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God:
6 また、このようなことで、兄弟を踏みつけたり、欺いたりしないことです。なぜなら、主はこれらすべてのことについて正しくさばかれるからです。これは、私たちが前もってあなたがたに話し、きびしく警告しておいたところです。
That no man go beyond and defraud his brother in any matter: because that the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified.
7 神が私たちを召されたのは、汚れを行なわせるためではなく、聖潔を得させるためです。
For God has not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.
8 ですから、このことを拒む者は、人を拒むのではなく、あなたがたに聖霊をお与えになる神を拒むのです。
He therefore that despises, despises not man, but God, who has also given unto us his holy Spirit. (pneuma)
9 兄弟愛については、何も書き送る必要がありません。あなたがたこそ、互いに愛し合うことを神から教えられた人たちだからです。
But as concerning brotherly love all of you need not that I write unto you: for all of you yourselves are taught of God to love one another.
10 実にマケドニヤ全土のすべての兄弟たちに対して、あなたがたはそれを実行しています。しかし、兄弟たち。あなたがたにお勧めします。どうか、さらにますますそうであってください。
And indeed all of you do it toward all the brethren which are in all Macedonia: but we plead to you, brethren, that all of you increase more and more;
11 また、私たちが命じたように、落ち着いた生活をすることを志し、自分の仕事に身を入れ、自分の手で働きなさい。
And that all of you study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you;
12 外の人々に対してもりっぱにふるまうことができ、また乏しいことがないようにするためです。
That all of you may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that all of you may have lack of nothing.
13 眠った人々のことについては、兄弟たち、あなたがたに知らないでいてもらいたくありません。あなたがたが他の望みのない人々のように悲しみに沈むことのないためです。
But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that all of you sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
14 私たちはイエスが死んで復活されたことを信じています。それならば、神はまたそのように、イエスにあって眠った人々をイエスといっしょに連れて来られるはずです。
For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
15 私たちは主のみことばのとおりに言いますが、主が再び来られるときまで生き残っている私たちが、死んでいる人々に優先するようなことは決してありません。
For this we say unto you by the word (logos) of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
16 主は、号令と、御使いのかしらの声と、神のラッパの響きのうちに、ご自身天から下って来られます。それからキリストにある死者が、まず初めによみがえり、
For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17 次に、生き残っている私たちが、たちまち彼らといっしょに雲の中に一挙に引き上げられ、空中で主と会うのです。このようにして、私たちは、いつまでも主とともにいることになります。
Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
18 こういうわけですから、このことばをもって互いに慰め合いなさい。
Wherefore comfort one another with these words. (logos)
