ペテロの手紙第一 4
1 このように、キリストは肉体において苦しみを受けられたのですから、あなたがたも同じ心構えで自分自身を武装しなさい。肉体において苦しみを受けた人は、罪とのかかわりを断ちました。
Forasmuch then as Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind; for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin;
2 こうしてあなたがたは、地上の残された時を、もはや人間の欲望のためではなく、神のみこころのために過ごすようになるのです。
that you no longer should live the rest of your time in the flesh for human desires, but for the will of God.
3 あなたがたは、異邦人たちがしたいと思っていることを行ない、好色、情欲、酔酒、遊興、宴会騒ぎ、忌むべき偶像礼拝などにふけったものですが、それは過ぎ去った時で、もう十分です。
For enough time in the past has been spent doing the will of the unbelievers, and having walked in lewdness, lusts, drunkenness, orgies, carousings, and abominable idolatries.
4 彼らは、あなたがたが自分たちといっしょに度を過ごした放蕩に走らないので不思議に思い、また悪口を言います。
They think it is strange that you do not run with them into the same flood of debauchery, blaspheming:
5 彼らは、生きている人々をも死んだ人々をも、すぐにもさばこうとしている方に対し、申し開きをしなければなりません。
who will give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.
6 というのは、死んだ人々にも福音が宣べ伝えられていたのですが、それはその人々が肉体においては人間としてさばきを受けるが、霊においては神によって生きるためでした。
For this reason also the Good News was preached to those who are now dead, that they might be judged according to man in the flesh, but might live according to God in the Spirit.
7 万物の終わりが近づきました。ですから、祈りのために、心を整え身を慎みなさい。
But the end of all things is near. Therefore be serious and disciplined in your prayers.
8 何よりもまず、互いに熱心に愛し合いなさい。愛は多くの罪をおおうからです。
Above all things be earnest in your love among yourselves, for love covers a multitude of sins.
9 つぶやかないで、互いに親切にもてなし合いなさい。
Be hospitable to one another without grumbling.
10 それぞれが賜物を受けているのですから、神のさまざまな恵みの良い管理者として、その賜物を用いて、互いに仕え合いなさい。
As each has received a gift, employ it in serving one another, as good managers of the grace of God in its various forms.
11 語る人があれば、神のことばにふさわしく語り、奉仕する人があれば、神が豊かに備えてくださる力によって、それにふさわしく奉仕しなさい。それは、すべてのことにおいて、イエス・キリストを通して神があがめられるためです。栄光と支配が世々限りなくキリストにありますように。アーメン。 (aiōn g165)
If anyone speaks, let it be as it were the very words of God. If anyone serves, let it be as of the strength which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen. (aiōn g165)
12 愛する者たち。あなたがたを試みるためにあなたがたの間に燃えさかる火の試練を、何か思いがけないことが起こったかのように驚き怪しむことなく、
Beloved, do not be astonished at the fiery trial which has come upon you, to test you, as though a strange thing happened to you.
13 むしろ、キリストの苦しみにあずかれるのですから、喜んでいなさい。それは、キリストの栄光が現われるときにも、喜びおどる者となるためです。
But because you are partakers of Christ's sufferings, rejoice; that at the revelation of his glory you also may rejoice with exceeding joy.
14 もしキリストの名のために非難を受けるなら、あなたがたは幸いです。なぜなら、栄光の御霊、すなわち神の御霊が、あなたがたの上にとどまってくださるからです。
If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed; because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. On their part he is blasphemed, but on your part he is glorified.
15 あなたがたのうちのだれも、人殺し、盗人、悪を行なう者、みだりに他人に干渉する者として苦しみを受けるようなことがあってはなりません。
For let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or an evil doer, or a meddler.
16 しかし、キリスト者として苦しみを受けるのなら、恥じることはありません。かえって、この名のゆえに神をあがめなさい。
But if as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in this name.
17 なぜなら、さばきが神の家から始まる時が来ているからです。さばきが、まず私たちから始まるのだとしたら、神の福音に従わない人たちの終わりは、どうなることでしょう。
For the time has come for judgment to begin with the household of God; and if it begins first with us, what will happen to those who do not obey the Good News of God?
18 義人がかろうじて救われるのだとしたら、神を敬わない者や罪人たちは、いったいどうなるのでしょう。
And "If the righteous is delivered with difficulty, where will the ungodly and the sinner appear?"
19 ですから、神のみこころに従ってなお苦しみに会っている人々は、善を行なうにあたって、真実であられる創造者に自分のたましいをお任せしなさい。
Therefore let them also who suffer according to the will of God in doing good entrust their souls to him, as to a faithful Creator.
