ヨハネの手紙第一 1
1 初めからあったもの、私たちが聞いたもの、目で見たもの、じっと見、また手でさわったもの、すなわち、いのちのことばについて、
That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word (logos) of life;
2 ――このいのちが現われ、私たちはそれを見たので、そのあかしをし、あなたがたにこの永遠のいのちを伝えます。すなわち、御父とともにあって、私たちに現わされた永遠のいのちです。―― (aiōnios g166)
(For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and show unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us; ) (aiōnios g166)
3 私たちの見たこと、聞いたことを、あなたがたにも伝えるのは、あなたがたも私たちと交わりを持つようになるためです。私たちの交わりとは、御父および御子イエス・キリストとの交わりです。
That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that all of you also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
4 私たちがこれらのことを書き送るのは、私たちの喜びが全きものとなるためです。
And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.
5 神は光であって、神のうちには暗いところが少しもない。これが、私たちがキリストから聞いて、あなたがたに伝える知らせです。
This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
6 もし私たちが、神と交わりがあると言っていながら、しかもやみの中を歩んでいるなら、私たちは偽りを言っているのであって、真理を行なってはいません。
If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
7 しかし、もし神が光の中におられるように、私たちも光の中を歩んでいるなら、私たちは互いに交わりを保ち、御子イエスの血はすべての罪から私たちをきよめます。
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanses us from all sin.
8 もし、罪はないと言うなら、私たちは自分を欺いており、真理は私たちのうちにありません。
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9 もし、私たちが自分の罪を言い表わすなら、神は真実で正しい方ですから、その罪を赦し、すべての悪から私たちをきよめてくださいます。
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10 もし、罪を犯してはいないと言うなら、私たちは神を偽り者とするのです。神のみことばは私たちのうちにありません。
If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word (logos) is not in us.
