ルカの福音書 14

1 イエズス安息日に麪を食せんとて、ファリザイ人の長だちたる或者の家に入り給ひしかば、彼等之を窺ひ居たり、

And it came to pass, as he went into the house of one of the chief Pharisees to eat bread on the sabbath day, that they watched him.

2 折しも水腫に罹れる人御前に居りければ、

And, behold, there was a certain man before him which had the dropsy.

3 イエズス答へて律法學士とファリザイ人とに向ひ、安息日に醫すは可きか、と曰ひしに、

And Jesus answering spoke unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day?

4 彼等黙然たりしかば、イエズス彼を執へて醫し、さて之を去らしめて、

And they held their peace. And he took him, and healed him, and let him go;

5 彼等に答へて曰ひけるは、汝等の中己が驢馬或は牛の井に陥ちたるものあらんに、安息日なりとも、誰か速に之を引上げざらんや、と。

And answered them, saying, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into a pit, and will not immediately pull him out on the sabbath day?

6 彼等は之に對して、答ふること能はざりき。

And they could not answer him again to these things.

7 又招かれたる人々の上席を擇む状態を見て、彼等に喩を語りて曰ひけるは、

And he put forth a parable to those which were bidden, when he marked how they chose out the chief rooms; saying unto them.

8 汝婚莚に招かれたる時、上席に着くこと勿れ、恐らくは汝よりも尊き人の招かれたらんに、

When you are bidden of any man to a wedding, sit not down in the highest room; lest a more honourable man than you be bidden of him;

9 汝と彼とを招きたる人來りて汝に向ひ、請ふ此客に席を譲れと云はん、然らば汝赤面して末席に着くに至るべし。

And he that bade you and him come and say to you, Give this man place; and you begin with shame to take the low room.

10 然れば招かれたる時、往きて末席に着け、然らば招きたる人來りて、友よ上に進めと云はん。斯て汝、列席せる人々の前に面目あるべし。

But when you are bidden, go and sit down in the low room; that when he that bade you comes, he may say unto you, Friend, go up higher: then shall you have worship in the presence of them that sit to eat with you.

11 蓋総て自ら驕る人は下げられ、自ら遜る人は上げらるべし、と。

For whosoever exalts himself shall be brought low; and he that humbles himself shall be exalted.

12 イエズス又己を招きたる人に曰ひけるは、汝午餐又は晩餐を設くる時、朋友、兄弟、親族、富める隣人を招くこと勿れ、恐らくは彼等も亦汝を招きて汝に報とならん。

Then said he also to him that bade him, When you make a dinner or a supper, call not your friends, nor your brethren, neither your kinsmen, nor your rich neighbours; lest they also bid you again, and a recompence be made you.

13 さて饗筵を設けば、貧窮、廃疾、跛、瞽なる人を招け、

But when you make a feast, call the poor, the physically disabled, the lame, the blind:

14 彼等は汝に報ゆべき由なくして、汝福なるべし。其は義人の復活の時に報いらるべければなり、と。

And you shall be blessed; for they cannot recompense you: for you shall be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.

15 列席者の一人、之を聞きてイエズスに云ひけるは、神の國にて麪を食せん人は福なる哉、と。

And when one of them that sat at food with him heard these things, he said unto him, Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God.

16 イエズス之に曰ひけるは、或人大いなる晩餐を設けて、多くの人を招待せしが、

Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many:

17 晩餐の時刻に至りて僕を遣はし、最早萬事整ひたれば來られよ、と招かれたる人々に云はしめしに、

And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready.

18 彼等皆一同に辞り出でたり。初の者は、我小作場を買ひたれば往きて見ざるべからず、請ふ我を容せ、と云ひ、

And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must essentially go and see it: I pray you have me excused.

19 次の者は、我五軛の牛を買ひたれば往きて試みんとす、請ふ我を容せ、と云ひ、

And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray you have me excused.

20 又一人は、我妻を娶りたるが故に往くこと能はず、と云ひしかば、

And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.

21 僕歸りて其次第を主人に告げしに、家父怒りて僕に云ひけるは、速に町の衢と辻とに往きて、貧窮、廃疾、瞽、跛なる人々を此處に伴ひ來れ、と。

So that servant came, and showed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in here the poor, and the physically disabled, and the halt, and the blind.

22 僕軈て、主よ命じ給ひし如くに為しかど尚空席あり、と云ひしかば、

And the servant said, Lord, it is done as you have commanded, and yet there is room.

23 其時主人僕に云ひけるは、汝道及籬の下に往き、人を強ひて、我家に盈つるまで入らしめよ、と。

And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.

24 我汝等に告ぐ、彼招かれたる者の中、一人も我晩餐を味はじ、と。

For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper.

25 群衆夥しくイエズスに伴ひければ、顧みて曰ひけるは、人我に來りて、

And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned, and said unto them,

26 其父母、妻子、兄弟、姉妹、己が生命までも憎むに非ざれば、我弟子たること能はず、

If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

27 又己が十字架を擔ひて我に從はざる人は、我弟子たること能はず。

And whosoever does not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.

28 汝等の中誰か、塔を建てんと欲して、先坐して之に要する費用を測り、有てる物の之を成就するに足れりや否やを計へざらんや、

For which of you, intending to build a tower, sits not down first, and counts the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?

29 若礎を定めたる後成就すること能はずば、見る者之を嘲り出でて、

Lest lest by any means, after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him,

30 此人は建て始めて成就すること能はざりき、と云はん。

Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.

31 又如何なる王か、出でて他の王と戰を交へんとするに當り、先坐して、二萬を率ゐ來る者に、能く我一萬を以て對ふことを得べきか、と、慮らざらんや、

Or what king, going to make war against another king, sits not down first, and consults whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that comes against him with twenty thousand?

32 若得べからずば敵の尚遠き間に、使節を遣はして講和を求むべし。

Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends an embassy, and desires conditions of peace.

33 之と齊しく汝等の中、其有てる物を悉く見限らざる者は、誰にてもあれ我弟子たること能はず。

So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsakes not all that he has, he cannot be my disciple.

34 塩は善き物なり、然れど塩若其味を失はば、何を以てか之に塩せん、

Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned?

35 土地にも肥料にも益なくして、外に棄てられんのみ、聞く耳を有てる人は聞け、と。

It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill; but men cast it out. He that has ears to hear, let him hear.
