ヨハネの手紙第一 1
1 生命の御言に就きて、素より在りたりし所、我等の聞きし所、目にて見し所、熟眺めて手にて扱ひし所、
That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word (logos) of life;
(For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and show unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us; ) (aiōnios g166)
3 我等が見聞せし所を汝等にも告ぐるは、汝等をも我等に與せしめ、且我等の與をして父と其御子イエズス、キリストと共に在らしめん為、
That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that all of you also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
4 之を書贈るは（汝等が喜びて）其喜の全からん為なり。
And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.
5 第一項 神は光にて在せば、我等は光の子として生活すべし。 然て我等がキリストより承りて汝等に傳ふる所の告は斯なり、神は光にて在し、之に聊も暗黒ある事なし、
This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
6 我等若彼に與し奉ると言ひて暗黒を歩まば、是僞りて眞を行はざるなり。
If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
7 然れど彼が光に在すが如く、我等も光の中に歩まば、是互に相與して、其御子イエズスの御血は、我等を凡て罪より潔むるなり。
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanses us from all sin.
8 若我等罪なしと言はば、自ら欺く者にして、眞理は我等の中に在らず。
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9 若我等罪を告白せば、神は眞實正義に在して我等の罪を赦し、我等を凡て不義より潔め給ふべし。
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10 若我等罪を犯したる事なしと言はば、神を虚言者とし奉るものにして、御言我等に在らざるなり。
If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word (logos) is not in us.
