箴言 知恵の泉 6
1 わが子よ、あなたがもし隣り人のために保証人となり、他人のために手をうって誓ったならば、
My son, if thou art surety for thy friend, [if] thou hast stricken thy hand with a stranger,
2 もしあなたのくちびるの言葉によって、わなにかかり、あなたの口の言葉によって捕えられたならば、
Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth.
3 わが子よ、その時はこうして、おのれを救え、あなたは隣り人の手に陥ったのだから。急いで行って、隣り人にひたすら求めよ。
Do this now, my son, and deliver thyself, when thou art come into the hand of thy friend; go, humble thyself, and make sure thy friend.
4 あなたの目を眠らせず、あなたのまぶたを、まどろませず、
Give not sleep to thy eyes, nor slumber to thy eyelids.
5 かもしかが、かりゅうどの手からのがれるように、鳥が鳥を取る者の手からのがれるように、おのれを救え。
Deliver thyself as a roe from the hand [of the hunter], and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.
6 なまけ者よ、ありのところへ行き、そのすることを見て、知恵を得よ。
Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:
7 ありは、かしらなく、つかさなく、王もないが、
Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,
8 夏のうちに食物をそなえ、刈入れの時に、かてを集める。
Provideth her provisions in the summer, [and] gathereth her food in the harvest.
9 なまけ者よ、いつまで寝ているのか、いつ目をさまして起きるのか。
How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?
10 しばらく眠り、しばらくまどろみ、手をこまぬいて、またしばらく休む。
[Yet] a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:
11 それゆえ、貧しさは盗びとのようにあなたに来り、乏しさは、つわもののようにあなたに来る。
So shall thy poverty come as one that traveleth, and thy want as an armed man.
12 よこしまな人、悪しき人は偽りの言葉をもって行きめぐり、
A naughty person, a wicked man, walketh with a froward mouth.
13 目でめくばせし、足で踏み鳴らし、指で示し、
He winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers;
14 よこしまな心をもって悪を計り、絶えず争いをおこす。
Frowardness [is] in his heart, he deviseth mischief continually; he soweth discord.
15 それゆえ、災は、にわかに彼に臨み、たちまちにして打ち敗られ、助かることはない。
Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy.
16 主の憎まれるものが六つある、否、その心に、忌みきらわれるものが七つある。
These six [things] doth the LORD hate: yes, seven [are] an abomination to him:
17 すなわち、高ぶる目、偽りを言う舌、罪なき人の血を流す手、
A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood.
18 悪しき計りごとをめぐらす心、すみやかに悪に走る足、
A heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that are swift in running to mischief,
19 偽りをのべる証人、また兄弟のうちに争いをおこす人がこれである。
A false witness [that] speaketh lies, and him that soweth discord among brethren.
20 わが子よ、あなたの父の戒めを守り、あなたの母の教を捨てるな。
My son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:
21 つねに、これをあなたの心に結び、あなたの首のまわりにつけよ。
Bind them continually upon thy heart, [and] tie them about thy neck.
22 これは、あなたが歩くとき、あなたを導き、あなたが寝るとき、あなたを守り、あなたが目ざめるとき、あなたと語る。
When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and [when] thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.
23 戒めはともしびである、教は光である、教訓の懲しめは命の道である。
For the commandment [is] a lamp; and the law [is] light; and reproofs of instruction [are] the way of life:
24 これは、あなたを守って、悪い女に近づかせず、みだらな女の、巧みな舌に惑わされぬようにする。
To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.
25 彼女の麗しさを心に慕ってはならない、そのまぶたに捕えられてはならない。
Lust not after her beauty in thy heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.
26 遊女は一塊のパンのために雇われる、しかし、みだらな女は人の尊い命を求める。
For by means of a lewd woman [a man is brought] to a piece of bread: and the adulteress will hunt for the precious life.
27 人は火を、そのふところにいだいてその着物が焼かれないであろうか。
Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?
28 また人は、熱い火を踏んで、その足が、焼かれないであろうか。
Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned?
29 その隣の妻と不義を行う者も、それと同じだ。すべて彼女に触れる者は罰を免れることはできない。
So he that goeth in to his neighbor's wife; whoever toucheth her shall not be innocent.
30 盗びとが飢えたとき、その飢えを満たすために盗むならば、人は彼を軽んじないであろうか。
[Men] do not despise a thief, if he stealeth to satisfy his soul when he is hungry;
31 もし捕えられたなら、その七倍を償い、その家の貨財を、ことごとく出さなければならない。
But [if] he is found, he shall restore seven-fold; he shall give all the substance of his house.
32 女と姦淫を行う者は思慮がない。これを行う者はおのれを滅ぼし、
[But] whoever committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he [that] doeth it destroyeth his own soul.
33 傷と、はずかしめとを受けて、その恥をすすぐことができない。
A wound and dishonor shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away.
34 ねたみは、その夫を激しく怒らせるゆえ、恨みを報いるとき、容赦することはない。
For jealousy [is] the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.
35 どのようなあがない物をも顧みず、多くの贈り物をしても、和らがない。
He will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest content, though thou givest many gifts.
