箴言 知恵の泉 27
1 あすのことを誇ってはならない、一日のうちに何がおこるかを知ることができないからだ。
Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.
2 自分の口をもって自らをほめることなく、他人にほめさせよ。自分のくちびるをもってせず、ほかの人にあなたをほめさせよ。
Let another man praise thee, and not thy own mouth; a stranger, and not thy own lips.
3 石は重く、砂も軽くはない、しかし愚かな者の怒りはこの二つよりも重い。
A stone is heavy, and the sand weighty; but a fool’s wrath is heavier than both.
4 憤りはむごく、怒りははげしい、しかしねたみの前には、だれが立ちえよう。
Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous; but who is able to stand before envy?
5 あからさまに戒めるのは、ひそかに愛するのにまさる。
Open rebuke is better than secret love.
6 愛する者が傷つけるのは、まことからであり、あだの口づけするのは偽りからである。
Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.
7 飽いている者は蜂蜜をも踏みつける、しかし飢えた者には苦い物でさえ、みな甘い。
The full soul loatheth an honeycomb; but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.
8 その家を離れてさまよう人は、巣を離れてさまよう鳥のようだ。
As a bird that wandereth from her nest, so is a man that wandereth from his place.
9 油と香とは人の心を喜ばせる、しかし魂は悩みによって裂かれる。
Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart: so doth the sweetness of a man’s friend by hearty counsel.
10 あなたの友、あなたの父の友を捨てるな、あなたが悩みにあう日には兄弟の家に行くな、近い隣り人は遠くにいる兄弟にまさる。
Thy own friend, and thy father’s friend, forsake not; neither go into thy brother’s house in the day of thy calamity: for better is a neighbour that is near than a brother far off.
11 わが子よ、知恵を得て、わたしの心を喜ばせよ、そうすればわたしをそしる者に答えることができる。
My son, be wise, and make my heart glad, that I may answer him that reproacheth me.
12 賢い者は災を見て自ら避け、思慮のない者は進んでいって、罰をうける。
A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished.
13 人のために保証する者からは、まずその着物をとれ、他人のために保証をする者をば抵当に取れ。
Take his garment that is surety for a stranger, and take a pledge of him for adulteress.
14 朝はやく起きて大声にその隣り人を祝すれば、かえってのろいと見なされよう。
He that blesseth his friend with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, it shall be counted a curse to him.
15 雨の降る日に雨漏りの絶えないのと、争い好きな女とは同じだ。
A continual dropping in a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike.
16 この女を制するのは風を制するのとおなじく、右の手に油をつかむのとおなじだ。
Whoever hideth her hideth the wind, and the ointment of his right hand, which betrayeth itself.
17 鉄は鉄をとぐ、そのように人はその友の顔をとぐ。
Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.
18 いちじくの木を守る者はその実を食べる、主人を尊ぶ者は誉を得る。
He that keepeth the fig tree shall eat the fruit of it: so he that waiteth on his master shall be honoured.
19 水にうつせば顔と顔とが応じるように、人の心はその人をうつす。
As in water face answereth to face, so the heart of man to man.
Hell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied. (Sheol h7585)
21 るつぼによって銀をためし、炉によって金をためす、人はその称賛によってためされる。
As the refining pot for silver, and the furnace for gold; so is a man to his praise.
22 愚かな者をうすに入れ、きねをもって、麦と共にこれをついても、その愚かさは去ることがない。
Though thou shouldest crush a fool in a mortar among grain with a pestle, yet his foolishness will not depart from him.
23 あなたの羊の状態をよく知り、あなたの群れに心をとめよ。
Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds.
24 富はいつまでも続くものではない、どうして位が末代までも保つであろうか。
For riches are not for ever: and doth the crown endure to every generation?
25 草が刈り取られ、新しい芽がのび、山の牧草も集められると、
The plant appeareth, and the tender grass showeth itself, and herbs of the mountains are gathered.
26 小羊はあなたの衣料を出し、やぎは畑を買う価となり、
The lambs are for thy clothing, and the goats are the price of the field.
27 やぎの乳は多くて、あなたと、あなたの家のものの食物となり、おとめらを養うのにじゅうぶんである。
And thou shalt have goats’ milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household, and for maintenance for thy maidens.
