箴言 知恵の泉 22

1 令名は大いなる富にまさり、恩恵は銀や金よりも良い。

A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.

2 富める者と貧しい者とは共に世におる、すべてこれを造られたのは主である。

The rich and poor meet together: YHWH is the maker of them all.

3 賢い者は災を見て自ら避け、思慮のない者は進んでいって、罰をうける。

A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.

4 謙遜と主を恐れることとの報いは、富と誉と命とである。

By humility and the fear of YHWH are riches, and honour, and life.

5 よこしまな者の道にはいばらとわながあり、たましいを守る者は遠くこれを離れる。

Thorns and snares are in the way of the froward: he that doth keep his soul shall be far from them.

6 子をその行くべき道に従って教えよ、そうすれば年老いても、それを離れることがない。

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

7 富める者は貧しき者を治め、借りる者は貸す人の奴隷となる。

The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.

8 悪をまく者は災を刈り、その怒りのつえはすたれる。

He that soweth iniquity shall reap vanity: and the rod of his anger shall fail.

9 人を見て恵む者はめぐまれる、自分のパンを貧しい人に与えるからである。

He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.

10 あざける者を追放すれば争いもまた去り、かつ、いさかいも、はずかしめもなくなる。

Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; yea, strife and reproach shall cease.

11 心の潔白を愛する者、その言葉の上品な者は、王がその友となる。

He that loveth pureness of heart, for the favour of his lips the king shall be his friend.

12 主の目は知識ある者を守る、しかし主は不信実な者の言葉を敗られる。

The eyes of YHWH preserve knowledge, and he overthroweth the words of the transgressor.

13 なまけ者は言う、「ししがそとにいる、わたしは、ちまたで殺される」と。

The slothful man saith, There is a lion without, I shall be slain in the streets.

14 遊女の口は深い落し穴である、主に憎まれる者はその中に陥る。

The mouth of strange women is a deep pit: he that is abhorred of YHWH shall fall therein.

15 愚かなことが子供の心の中につながれている、懲しめのむちは、これを遠く追いだす。

Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.

16 貧しい者をしえたげて自分の富を増そうとする者と、富める者に与える者とは、ついに必ず貧しくなる。

He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, and he that giveth to the rich, shall surely come to want.

17 あなたの耳を傾けて知恵ある者の言葉を聞き、かつ、わたしの知識にあなたの心を用いよ。

Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge.

18 これをあなたのうちに保ち、ことごとく、あなたのくちびるに備えておくなら、楽しいことである。

For it is a pleasant thing if thou keep them within thee; they shall withal be fitted in thy lips.

19 あなたが主に、寄り頼むことのできるように、わたしはきょう、これをあなたにも教える。

That thy trust may be in YHWH, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee.

20 わたしは、勧めと知識との三十の言葉をあなたのためにしるしたではないか。

Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge,

21 それは正しいこと、真実なことをあなたに示し、あなたをつかわした者に真実の答をさせるためであった。

That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?

22 貧しい者を、貧しいゆえに、かすめてはならない、悩む者を、町の門でおさえつけてはならない。

Rob not the poor, because he is poor: neither oppress the afflicted in the gate:

23 それは主が彼らの訴えをただし、かつ彼らをそこなう者の命を、そこなわれるからである。

For YHWH will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.

24 怒る者と交わるな、憤る人と共に行くな。

Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go:

25 それはあなたがその道にならって、みずから、わなに陥ることのないためである。

Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.

26 あなたは人と手を打つ者となってはならない、人の負債の保証をしてはならない。

Be not thou one of them that strike hands, or of them that are sureties for debts.

27 あなたが償うものがないとき、あなたの寝ている寝床までも、人が奪い取ってよかろうか。

If thou hast nothing to pay, why should he take away thy bed from under thee?

28 あなたの先祖が立てた古い地境を移してはならない。

Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.

29 あなたはそのわざに巧みな人を見るか、そのような人は王の前に立つが、卑しい人々の前には立たない。

Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.
