箴言 知恵の泉 17
1 平穏であって、ひとかたまりのかわいたパンのあるのは、争いがあって、食物の豊かな家にまさる。
Better is a dry morsel, and quietness with it, than an house full of sacrifices with strife.
2 賢いしもべは身持の悪いむすこを治め、かつ、その兄弟たちの中にあって、資産の分け前を獲る。
A wise servant shall have rule over a son that causeth shame, and shall have part of the inheritance among the brethren.
3 銀を試みるものはるつぼ、金を試みるものは炉、人の心を試みるものは主である。
The refining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the LORD trieth the hearts.
4 悪を行う者は偽りのくちびるに聞き、偽りをいう者は悪しき舌に耳を傾ける。
A wicked doer giveth heed to false lips; and a liar giveth ear to a mischievous tongue.
5 貧しい者をあざける者はその造り主を侮る、人の災を喜ぶ者は罰を免れない。
He that mocketh the poor reproacheth his Maker: and he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished.
6 孫は老人の冠である、父は子の栄えである。
Children’s children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children is their fathers.
7 すぐれた言葉は愚かな者には似合わない、まして偽りを言うくちびるは君たる者には似合わない。
Excellent speech becometh not a fool: much less do lying lips a prince.
8 まいないはこれを贈る人の目には幸運の玉のようだ、その向かう所、どこでも彼は栄える。
A bribe is as a precious stone in the eyes of him that hath it: wherever it turneth, it prospereth.
9 愛を追い求める人は人のあやまちをゆるす、人のことを言いふらす者は友を離れさせる。
He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends.
10 一度の戒めがさとき人に徹するのは、百度の懲しめが愚かな人に徹するよりも深い。
A reproof entereth more into a wise man than an hundred stripes into a fool.
11 悪しき者はただ、そむく事のみを求める、それゆえ、彼に向かっては残忍な使者がつかわされる。
An evil man seeketh only rebellion: therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.
12 愚かな者が愚かな事をするのに会うよりは、子をとられた雌ぐまに会うほうがよい。
Let a bear robbed of her whelps meet a man, rather than a fool in his folly.
13 悪をもて善に報いる者は、悪がその家を離れることがない。
Whoever rewardeth evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.
14 争いの初めは水がもれるのに似ている、それゆえ、けんかの起らないうちにそれをやめよ。
The beginning of strife is as when one letteth out water: therefore withdraw from contention, before it be meddled with.
15 悪しき者を正しいとする者、正しい者を悪いとする者、この二つの者はともに主に憎まれる。
He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the LORD.
16 愚かな者はすでに心がないのに、どうして知恵を買おうとして手にその代金を持っているのか。
Why is there a price in the hand of a fool to get wisdom, seeing he hath no heart to it?
17 友はいずれの時にも愛する、兄弟はなやみの時のために生れる。
A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.
18 知恵のない人は手をうって、その隣り人の前で保証をする。
A man void of understanding striketh hands, and becometh surety in the presence of his friend.
19 争いを好む者は罪を好む、その門を高くする者は滅びを求める。
He loveth transgression that loveth strife: and he that exalteth his gate seeketh destruction.
20 曲った心の者はさいわいを得ない、みだりに舌をもって語る者は災に陥る。
He that hath a perverse heart findeth no good: and he that hath a perverse tongue falleth into mischief.
21 愚かな子を生む者は嘆きを得る、愚か者の父は喜びを得ない。
He that begetteth a fool doeth it to his sorrow: and the father of a fool hath no joy.
22 心の楽しみは良い薬である、たましいの憂いは骨を枯らす。
A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.
23 悪しき者は人のふところからまいないを受けて、さばきの道をまげる。
A wicked man taketh a bribe out of the bosom to pervert the ways of judgment.
24 さとき者はその顔を知恵にむける、しかし、愚かな者は目を地の果にそそぐ。
Wisdom is before him that hath understanding; but the eyes of a fool are in the ends of the earth.
25 愚かな子はその父の憂いである、またこれを産んだ母の痛みである。
A foolish son is a grief to his father, and bitterness to her that bore him.
26 正しい人を罰するのはよくない、尊い人を打つのは悪い。
Also to punish the just is not good, nor to strike princes for equity.
27 言葉を少なくする者は知識のある者、心の冷静な人はさとき人である。
He that hath knowledge spareth his words: and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit.
28 愚かな者も黙っているときは、知恵ある者と思われ、そのくちびるを閉じている時は、さとき者と思われる。
Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.
