民数記 25
1 イスラエルはシッテムにとどまっていたが、民はモアブの娘たちと、みだらな事をし始めた。
Israel [God prevails] stayed in Shittim; and the people began to play the prostitute with the daughters of Moab [From father];
2 その娘たちが神々に犠牲をささげる時に民を招くと、民は一緒にそれを食べ、娘たちの神々を拝んだ。
for they called the people to the sacrifices of their deities. The people ate and bowed down to their deities.
3 イスラエルはこうしてペオルのバアルにつきしたがったので、主はイスラエルにむかって怒りを発せられた。
Israel [God prevails] joined himself to Baal Peor. Adonai’s anger burned against Israel [God prevails].
4 そして主はモーセに言われた、「民の首領をことごとく捕え、日のあるうちにその人々を主の前で処刑しなさい。そうすれば主の怒りはイスラエルを離れるであろう」。
Adonai said to Moses [Drawn out], “Take all the chiefs of the people, and hang them up to Adonai before the sun, that the fierce anger of Adonai may turn away from Israel [God prevails].”
5 モーセはイスラエルのさばきびとたちにむかって言った、「あなたがたはおのおの、配下の者どもでペオルのバアルにつきしたがったものを殺しなさい」。
Moses [Drawn out] said to the judges of Israel [God prevails], “Everyone kill his men who have joined themselves to Baal Peor.”
6 モーセとイスラエルの人々の全会衆とが会見の幕屋の入口で泣いていた時、彼らの目の前で、ひとりのイスラエルびとが、その兄弟たちの中に、ひとりのミデアンの女を連れてきた。
Behold, one of the children of Israel [God prevails] came and brought to his brothers a Midianite [Descendant of Strife] woman in the sight of Moses [Drawn out], and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel [God prevails], while they were weeping at the door of the Tent of Meeting.
7 祭司アロンの子なるエレアザルの子ピネハスはこれを見て、会衆のうちから立ち上がり、やりを手に執り、
When Pinchas [Bronze skin], the son of Eleazar [Help of God], the son of Aaron [Light-bringer] the priest, saw it, he rose up from the middle of the congregation, and took a spear in his hand.
8 そのイスラエルの人の後を追って、奥の間に入り、そのイスラエルの人を突き、またその女の腹を突き通して、ふたりを殺した。こうして疫病がイスラエルの人々に及ぶのがやんだ。
He went after the man of Israel [God prevails] into the pavilion, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel [God prevails], and the woman through her body. So the plague was stayed from the children of Israel [God prevails].
9 しかし、その疫病で死んだ者は二万四千人であった。
Those who died by the plague were twenty-four thousand.
10 主はモーセに言われた、
Adonai spoke to Moses [Drawn out], saying,
11 「祭司アロンの子なるエレアザルの子ピネハスは自分のことのように、わたしの憤激をイスラエルの人々のうちに表わし、わたしの怒りをそのうちから取り去ったので、わたしは憤激して、イスラエルの人々を滅ぼすことをしなかった。
“Pinchas [Bronze skin], the son of Eleazar [Help of God], the son of Aaron [Light-bringer] the priest, has turned my wrath away from the children of Israel [God prevails], in that he was jealous with my jealousy among them, so that I didn’t consume the children of Israel [God prevails] in my jealousy.
12 このゆえにあなたは言いなさい、『わたしは平和の契約を彼に授ける。
Therefore say, ‘Behold, I give to him my covenant ·binding contract between two or more parties· of peace.
13 これは彼とその後の子孫に永遠の祭司職の契約となるであろう。彼はその神のために熱心であって、イスラエルの人々のために罪のあがないをしたからである』と」。
It shall be to him, and to his offspring after him, the covenant of an everlasting priesthood, because he was jealous for his God, and made atonement for the children of Israel [God prevails].’”
14 ミデアンの女と共に殺されたイスラエルの人の名はジムリといい、サルの子で、シメオンびとのうちの一族のつかさであった。
Now the name of the man of Israel [God prevails] that was slain, who was slain with the Midianite [Descendant of Strife] woman, was Zimri, the son of Salu, a prince of a fathers’ house among the Simeonites.
15 またその殺されたミデアンの女の名はコズビといい、ツルの娘であった。ツルはミデアンの民の一族のかしらであった。
The name of the Midianite [Descendant of Strife] woman who was slain was Cozbi, the daughter of Zur. He was head of the people of a fathers’ house in Midian [Strife].
16 主はまたモーセに言われた、
Adonai spoke to Moses [Drawn out], saying,
17 「ミデアンびとを打ち悩ましなさい。
“Harass the Midianites [Descendants of Strife], and strike them,
18 彼らはたくらみをもって、あなたがたを悩まし、ペオルの事と、彼らの姉妹、ミデアンのつかさの娘コズビ、すなわちペオルの事により、疫病の起った日に殺された女の事とによって、あなたがたを惑わしたからである」。
for they harassed you with their wiles, with which they have deceived you in the matter of Peor, and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of the prince of Midian [Strife], their sister, who was slain on the day of the plague in the matter of Peor.”
