マタイの福音書 23
1 そのときイエスは、群衆と弟子たちとに語って言われた、
Then Jesus spoke to the crowds, and to his disciples,
2 「律法学者とパリサイ人とは、モーセの座にすわっている。
saying: “The scribes and the Pharisees have sat down in the chair of Moses.
3 だから、彼らがあなたがたに言うことは、みな守って実行しなさい。しかし、彼らのすることには、ならうな。彼らは言うだけで、実行しないから。
Therefore, all things whatsoever that they shall say to you, observe and do. Yet truly, do not choose to act according to their works. For they say, but they do not do.
4 また、重い荷物をくくって人々の肩にのせるが、それを動かすために、自分では指一本も貸そうとはしない。
For they bind up heavy and unbearable burdens, and they impose them on men’s shoulders. But they are not willing to move them with even a finger of their own.
5 そのすることは、すべて人に見せるためである。すなわち、彼らは経札を幅広くつくり、その衣のふさを大きくし、
Truly, they do all their works so that they may be seen by men. For they enlarge their phylacteries and glorify their hems.
6 また、宴会の上座、会堂の上席を好み、
And they love the first places at feasts, and the first chairs in the synagogues,
7 広場であいさつされることや、人々から先生と呼ばれることを好んでいる。
and greetings in the marketplace, and to be called Master by men.
8 しかし、あなたがたは先生と呼ばれてはならない。あなたがたの先生は、ただひとりであって、あなたがたはみな兄弟なのだから。
But you must not be called Master. For One is your Master, and you are all brothers.
9 また、地上のだれをも、父と呼んではならない。あなたがたの父はただひとり、すなわち、天にいます父である。
And do not choose to call anyone on earth your father. For One is your Father, who is in heaven.
10 また、あなたがたは教師と呼ばれてはならない。あなたがたの教師はただひとり、すなわち、キリストである。
Neither should you be called teachers. For One is your Teacher, the Christ.
11 そこで、あなたがたのうちでいちばん偉い者は、仕える人でなければならない。
Whoever is greater among you shall be your minister.
12 だれでも自分を高くする者は低くされ、自分を低くする者は高くされるであろう。
But whoever has exalted himself, shall be humbled. And whoever has humbled himself, shall be exalted.
13 偽善な律法学者、パリサイ人たちよ。あなたがたは、わざわいである。あなたがたは、天国を閉ざして人々をはいらせない。自分もはいらないし、はいろうとする人をはいらせもしない。〔
So then: Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! For you close the kingdom of heaven before men. For you yourselves do not enter, and those who are entering, you would not permit to enter.
14 偽善な律法学者、パリサイ人たちよ。あなたがたは、わざわいである。あなたがたは、やもめたちの家を食い倒し、見えのために長い祈をする。だから、もっときびしいさばきを受けるに違いない。〕
Woe to you scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! For you consume the houses of widows, praying long prayers. Because of this, you shall receive the greater judgment.
15 偽善な律法学者、パリサイ人たちよ。あなたがたは、わざわいである。あなたがたはひとりの改宗者をつくるために、海と陸とを巡り歩く。そして、つくったなら、彼を自分より倍もひどい地獄の子にする。 (Geenna g1067)
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! For you travel around by sea and by land, in order to make one convert. And when he has been converted, you make him twice the son of Hell that you are yourselves. (Geenna g1067)
16 盲目な案内者たちよ。あなたがたは、わざわいである。あなたがたは言う、『神殿をさして誓うなら、そのままでよいが、神殿の黄金をさして誓うなら、果す責任がある』と。
Woe to you, blind guides, who say: ‘Whoever will have sworn by the temple, it is nothing. But whoever will have sworn by the gold of the temple is obligated.’
17 愚かな盲目な人たちよ。黄金と、黄金を神聖にする神殿と、どちらが大事なのか。
You are foolish and blind! For which is greater: the gold, or the temple that sanctifies the gold?
18 また、あなたがたは言う、『祭壇をさして誓うなら、そのままでよいが、その上の供え物をさして誓うなら、果す責任がある』と。
And you say: ‘Whoever will have sworn by the altar, it is nothing. But whoever will have sworn by the gift that is on the altar is obligated.’
19 盲目な人たちよ。供え物と供え物を神聖にする祭壇とどちらが大事なのか。
How blind you are! For which is greater: the gift, or the altar that sanctifies the gift?
20 祭壇をさして誓う者は、祭壇と、その上にあるすべての物とをさして誓うのである。
Therefore, whoever swears by the altar, swears by it, and by all that is on it.
21 神殿をさして誓う者は、神殿とその中に住んでおられるかたとをさして誓うのである。
And whoever will have sworn by the temple, swears by it, and by him who dwells in it.
22 また、天をさして誓う者は、神の御座とその上にすわっておられるかたとをさして誓うのである。
And whoever swears by heaven, swears by the throne of God, and by him who sits upon it.
23 偽善な律法学者、パリサイ人たちよ。あなたがたは、わざわいである。はっか、いのんど、クミンなどの薬味の十分の一を宮に納めておりながら、律法の中でもっと重要な、公平とあわれみと忠実とを見のがしている。それもしなければならないが、これも見のがしてはならない。
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! For you collect tithes on mint and dill and cumin, but you have abandoned the weightier things of the law: judgment and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, while not omitting the others.
24 盲目な案内者たちよ。あなたがたは、ぶよはこしているが、らくだはのみこんでいる。
You blind guides, straining out a gnat, while swallowing a camel!
25 偽善な律法学者、パリサイ人たちよ。あなたがたは、わざわいである。杯と皿との外側はきよめるが、内側は貪欲と放縦とで満ちている。
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! For you clean what is outside the cup and the dish, but on the inside you are full of avarice and impurity.
26 盲目なパリサイ人よ。まず、杯の内側をきよめるがよい。そうすれば、外側も清くなるであろう。
You blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and the dish, and then what is outside becomes clean.
27 偽善な律法学者、パリサイ人たちよ。あなたがたは、わざわいである。あなたがたは白く塗った墓に似ている。外側は美しく見えるが、内側は死人の骨や、あらゆる不潔なものでいっぱいである。
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed sepulchers, which outwardly appear brilliant to men, yet truly, inside, they are filled with the bones of the dead and with all filth.
28 このようにあなたがたも、外側は人に正しく見えるが、内側は偽善と不法とでいっぱいである。
So also, you certainly appear to men outwardly to be just. But inwardly you are filled with hypocrisy and iniquity.
29 偽善な律法学者、パリサイ人たちよ。あなたがたは、わざわいである。あなたがたは預言者の墓を建て、義人の碑を飾り立てて、こう言っている、
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites, who build the sepulchers of the prophets and adorn the monuments of the just.
30 『もしわたしたちが先祖の時代に生きていたなら、預言者の血を流すことに加わってはいなかっただろう』と。
And then you say, ‘If we had been there in the days of our fathers, we would not have joined with them in the blood of the prophets.’
31 このようにして、あなたがたは預言者を殺した者の子孫であることを、自分で証明している。
And so you are witnesses against yourselves, that you are the sons of those who killed the prophets.
32 あなたがたもまた先祖たちがした悪の枡目を満たすがよい。
Complete, then, the measure of your fathers.
You serpents, you brood of vipers! How will you escape from the judgment of Hell? (Geenna g1067)
34 それだから、わたしは、預言者、知者、律法学者たちをあなたがたにつかわすが、そのうちのある者を殺し、また十字架につけ、そのある者を会堂でむち打ち、また町から町へと迫害して行くであろう。
For this reason, behold, I send to you prophets and wise men, and scribes. And some of these you will put to death and crucify; and some you will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from city to city,
35 こうして義人アベルの血から、聖所と祭壇との間であなたがたが殺したバラキヤの子ザカリヤの血に至るまで、地上に流された義人の血の報いが、ことごとくあなたがたに及ぶであろう。
so that upon you may fall all the blood of the just, which has been shed upon the earth, from the blood of Abel the just, even to the blood of Zechariah the son of Barachiah, whom you killed between the temple and the altar.
36 よく言っておく。これらのことの報いは、みな今の時代に及ぶであろう。
Amen I say to you, all these things shall fall upon this generation.
37 ああ、エルサレム、エルサレム、預言者たちを殺し、おまえにつかわされた人たちを石で打ち殺す者よ。ちょうど、めんどりが翼の下にそのひなを集めるように、わたしはおまえの子らを幾たび集めようとしたことであろう。それだのに、おまえたちは応じようとしなかった。
Jerusalem, Jerusalem! You kill the prophets and stone those who have been sent to you. How often I have wanted to gather your children together, in the way that a hen gathers her young under her wings. But you were not willing!
38 見よ、おまえたちの家は見捨てられてしまう。
Behold, your house shall be abandoned to you, having been deserted.
39 わたしは言っておく、『主の御名によってきたる者に、祝福あれ』とおまえたちが言う時までは、今後ふたたび、わたしに会うことはないであろう」。
For I say to you, you shall not see me again, until you say: ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.’”
