マタイの福音書 11
1 イエスは十二弟子にこのように命じ終えてから、町々で教えまた宣べ伝えるために、そこを立ち去られた。
When Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples, he departed from there to teach and preach in their cities.
2 さて、ヨハネは獄中でキリストのみわざについて伝え聞き、自分の弟子たちをつかわして、
Now when John heard in prison about the works Christ had done, he sent two of his disciples
3 イエスに言わせた、「『きたるべきかた』はあなたなのですか。それとも、ほかにだれかを待つべきでしょうか」。
to ask him, “Are yoʋ the one who is to come, or should we wait for another?”
4 イエスは答えて言われた、「行って、あなたがたが見聞きしていることをヨハネに報告しなさい。
Jesus answered them, “Go tell John what you hear and see:
5 盲人は見え、足なえは歩き、らい病人はきよまり、耳しいは聞え、死人は生きかえり、貧しい人々は福音を聞かされている。
The blind receive their sight and the lame walk, lepers are made clean and the deaf hear, the dead are raised and the poor have good news preached to them.
6 わたしにつまずかない者は、さいわいである」。
And blessed is anyone who does not take offense at me.”
7 彼らが帰ってしまうと、イエスはヨハネのことを群衆に語りはじめられた、「あなたがたは、何を見に荒野に出てきたのか。風に揺らぐ葦であるか。
As these men went away, Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?
8 では、何を見に出てきたのか。柔らかい着物をまとった人か。柔らかい着物をまとった人々なら、王の家にいる。
What then did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft garments? Behold, those who wear soft garments are in the palaces of kings.
9 では、なんのために出てきたのか。預言者を見るためか。そうだ、あなたがたに言うが、預言者以上の者である。
But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.
10 『見よ、わたしは使をあなたの先につかわし、あなたの前に、道を整えさせるであろう』と書いてあるのは、この人のことである。
For this is the one of whom it is written, ‘Behold, I am sending my messenger ahead of yoʋ, who will prepare yoʋr way before yoʋ.’
11 あなたがたによく言っておく。女の産んだ者の中で、バプテスマのヨハネより大きい人物は起らなかった。しかし、天国で最も小さい者も、彼よりは大きい。
Truly I say to you, among those born of women there has arisen no one greater than John the Baptist, but whoever is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
12 バプテスマのヨハネの時から今に至るまで、天国は激しく襲われている。そして激しく襲う者たちがそれを奪い取っている。
From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven has been suffering violence, and the violent try to take it by force.
13 すべての預言者と律法とが預言したのは、ヨハネの時までである。
For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.
14 そして、もしあなたがたが受けいれることを望めば、この人こそは、きたるべきエリヤなのである。
And if you are willing to accept it, he is Elijah who is to come.
15 耳のある者は聞くがよい。
He who has ears to hear, let him hear.
16 今の時代を何に比べようか。それは子供たちが広場にすわって、ほかの子供たちに呼びかけ、
“But to what should I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling out to their companions,
17 『わたしたちが笛を吹いたのに、あなたたちは踊ってくれなかった。弔いの歌を歌ったのに、胸を打ってくれなかった』と言うのに似ている。
‘We played the flute for you, but you did not dance; we sang a lament for you, but you did not mourn.’
18 なぜなら、ヨハネがきて、食べることも、飲むこともしないと、あれは悪霊につかれているのだ、と言い、
For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon.’
19 また人の子がきて、食べたり飲んだりしていると、見よ、あれは食をむさぼる者、大酒を飲む者、また取税人、罪人の仲間だ、と言う。しかし、知恵の正しいことは、その働きが証明する」。
The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Behold, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ Yet wisdom is justified by her children.”
20 それからイエスは、数々の力あるわざがなされたのに、悔い改めることをしなかった町々を、責めはじめられた。
Then Jesus began to reproach the cities in which most of his miracles had been done, because they did not repent:
21 「わざわいだ、コラジンよ。わざわいだ、ベツサイダよ。おまえたちのうちでなされた力あるわざが、もしツロとシドンでなされたなら、彼らはとうの昔に、荒布をまとい灰をかぶって、悔い改めたであろう。
“Woe to yoʋ, Chorazin! Woe to yoʋ, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
22 しかし、おまえたちに言っておく。さばきの日には、ツロとシドンの方がおまえたちよりも、耐えやすいであろう。
But I tell you, it will be more tolerable on the day of judgment for Tyre and Sidon than for you.
23 ああ、カペナウムよ、おまえは天にまで上げられようとでもいうのか。黄泉にまで落されるであろう。おまえの中でなされた力あるわざが、もしソドムでなされたなら、その町は今日までも残っていたであろう。 (Hadēs g86)
And yoʋ, Capernaum, who have been exalted to heaven, will be brought down to Hades. For if the miracles that were done in yoʋ had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. (Hadēs g86)
24 しかし、あなたがたに言う。さばきの日には、ソドムの地の方がおまえよりは耐えやすいであろう」。
But I tell you, it will be more tolerable on the day of judgment for the land of Sodom than for yoʋ.”
25 そのときイエスは声をあげて言われた、「天地の主なる父よ。あなたをほめたたえます。これらの事を知恵のある者や賢い者に隠して、幼な子にあらわしてくださいました。
At that time Jesus said, “I praise yoʋ, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because yoʋ have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent, and revealed them to infants.
26 父よ、これはまことにみこころにかなった事でした。
Yes, Father, for so it was well-pleasing in yoʋr sight.
27 すべての事は父からわたしに任せられています。そして、子を知る者は父のほかにはなく、父を知る者は、子と、父をあらわそうとして子が選んだ者とのほかに、だれもありません。
All things have been delivered to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.
28 すべて重荷を負うて苦労している者は、わたしのもとにきなさい。あなたがたを休ませてあげよう。
Come to me, all of you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.
29 わたしは柔和で心のへりくだった者であるから、わたしのくびきを負うて、わたしに学びなさい。そうすれば、あなたがたの魂に休みが与えられるであろう。
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
30 わたしのくびきは負いやすく、わたしの荷は軽いからである」。
For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
