ヨシュア記 2
1 ヌンの子ヨシュアは、シッテムから、ひそかにふたりの斥候をつかわして彼らに言った、「行って、その地、特にエリコを探りなさい」。彼らは行って、名をラハブという遊女の家にはいり、そこに泊まったが、
And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men to spy secretly, saying, Go view the land, even Jericho. And they went, and came into an harlot's house, named Rahab, and lodged there.
2 エリコの王に、「イスラエルの人々のうちの数名の者が今夜この地を探るために、はいってきました」と言う者があったので、
And it was told the king of Jericho, saying, Behold, there came men in hither to night of the children of Israel to search out the country.
3 エリコの王は人をやってラハブに言った、「あなたの所にきて、あなたの家にはいった人々をここへ出しなさい。彼らはこの国のすべてを探るためにきたのです」。
And the king of Jericho sent unto Rahab, saying, Bring forth the men that are come to thee, which are entered into thine house: for they be come to search out all the country.
4 しかし、女はすでにそのふたりの人を入れて彼らを隠していた。そして彼女は言った、「確かにその人々はわたしの所にきました。しかし、わたしはその人々がどこからきたのか知りませんでしたが、
And the woman took the two men, and hid them, and said thus, There came men unto me, but I knew not whence they were:
5 たそがれ時、門の閉じるころに、その人々は出て行きました。どこへ行ったのかわたしは知りません。急いであとを追いなさい。追いつけるでしょう」。
And it came to pass about the time of shutting of the gate, when it was dark, that the men went out: whither the men went I wot not: pursue after them quickly; for ye shall overtake them.
6 その実、彼女はすでに彼らを連れて屋根にのぼり、屋上に並べてあった亜麻の茎の中に彼らを隠していたのである。
But she had brought them up to the roof of the house, and hid them with the stalks of flax, which she had laid in order upon the roof.
7 そこでその人々は彼らのあとを追ってヨルダンの道を進み、渡し場へ向かった。あとを追う者が出て行くとすぐ門は閉ざされた。
And the men pursued after them the way to Jordan unto the fords: and as soon as they which pursued after them were gone out, they shut the gate.
8 ふたりの人がまだ寝ないうち、ラハブは屋上にのぼって彼らの所にきた。
And before they were laid down, she came up unto them upon the roof;
9 そして彼らに言った、「主がこの地をあなたがたに賜わったこと、わたしたちがあなたがたをひじょうに恐れていること、そしてこの地の民がみなあなたがたの前に震えおののいていることをわたしは知っています。
And she said unto the men, I know that YHWH hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you.
10 あなたがたがエジプトから出てこられた時、主があなたがたの前で紅海の水を干されたこと、およびあなたがたが、ヨルダンの向こう側にいたアモリびとのふたりの王シホンとオグにされたこと、すなわちふたりを、全滅されたことを、わたしたちは聞いたからです。
For we have heard how YHWH dried up the water of the Red sea for you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were on the other side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed.
11 わたしたちはそれを聞くと、心は消え、あなたがたのゆえに人々は全く勇気を失ってしまいました。あなたがたの神、主は上の天にも、下の地にも、神でいらせられるからです。
And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for YHWH your Elohim, he is Elohim in heaven above, and in earth beneath.
12 それで、どうか、わたしがあなたがたを親切に扱ったように、あなたがたも、わたしの父の家を親切に扱われることをいま主をさして誓い、確かなしるしをください。
Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by YHWH, since I have shewed you kindness, that ye will also shew kindness unto my father's house, and give me a true token:
13 そしてわたしの父母、兄弟、姉妹およびすべて彼らに属するものを生きながらえさせ、わたしたちの命を救って、死を免れさせてください」。
And that ye will save alive my father, and my mother, and my brethren, and my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death.
14 ふたりの人は彼女に言った、「もしあなたがたが、われわれのこのことを他に漏らさないならば、われわれは命にかけて、あなたがたを救います。また主がわれわれにこの地を賜わる時、あなたがたを親切に扱い、真実をつくしましょう」。
And the men answered her, Our life for yours, if ye utter not this our business. And it shall be, when YHWH hath given us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with thee.
15 そこでラハブは綱をもって彼らを窓からつりおろした。その家が町の城壁の上に建っていて、彼女はその城壁の上に住んでいたからである。
Then she let them down by a cord through the window: for her house was upon the town wall, and she dwelt upon the wall.
16 ラハブは彼らに言った、「追手に会わないように、あなたがたは山へ行って、三日の間そこに身を隠し、追手の帰って行くのを待って、それから去って行きなさい」。
And she said unto them, Get you to the mountain, lest the pursuers meet you; and hide yourselves there three days, until the pursuers be returned: and afterward may ye go your way.
17 ふたりの人は彼女に言った、「あなたがわれわれに誓わせたこの誓いについて、われわれは罪を犯しません。
And the men said unto her, We will be blameless of this thine oath which thou hast made us swear.
18 われわれがこの地に討ち入る時、わたしたちをつりおろした窓に、この赤い糸のひもを結びつけ、またあなたの父母、兄弟、およびあなたの父の家族をみなあなたの家に集めなさい。
Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which thou didst let us down by: and thou shalt bring thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy father's household, home unto thee.
19 ひとりでも家の戸口から外へ出て、血を流されることがあれば、その責めはその人自身のこうべに帰すでしょう。われわれに罪はありません。しかしあなたの家の中にいる人に手をかけて血を流すことがあれば、その責めはわれわれのこうべに帰すでしょう。
And it shall be, that whosoever shall go out of the doors of thy house into the street, his blood shall be upon his head, and we will be guiltless: and whosoever shall be with thee in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand be upon him.
20 またあなたが、われわれのこのことを他に漏らすならば、あなたがわれわれに誓わせた誓いについては、われわれに罪はありません」。
And if thou utter this our business, then we will be quit of thine oath which thou hast made us to swear.
21 ラハブは言った、「あなたがたの仰せのとおりにいたしましょう」。こうして彼らを送り出したので、彼らは去った。そして彼女は赤いひもを窓に結んだ。
And she said, According unto your words, so be it. And she sent them away, and they departed: and she bound the scarlet line in the window.
22 彼らは立ち去って山にはいり、追手が帰るのを待って、三日の間そこにとどまった。追手は彼らをあまねく道に捜したが、ついに見つけることができなかった。
And they went, and came unto the mountain, and abode there three days, until the pursuers were returned: and the pursuers sought them throughout all the way, but found them not.
23 こうしてふたりの人はまた山を下り、川を渡って、ヌンの子ヨシュアのもとにきて、その身に起ったことをつぶさに述べた。
So the two men returned, and descended from the mountain, and passed over, and came to Joshua the son of Nun, and told him all things that befell them:
24 そしてヨシュアに言った、「ほんとうに主はこの国をことごとくわれわれの手にお与えになりました。この国の住民はみなわれわれの前に震えおののいています」。
And they said unto Joshua, Truly YHWH hath delivered into our hands all the land; for even all the inhabitants of the country do faint because of us.
