ヨシュア記 14

1 イスラエルの人々が、カナンの地で受けた嗣業の地は、次のとおりである。すなわち、祭司エレアザル、ヌンの子ヨシュア、およびイスラエルの人々の部族の首長たちが、これを彼らに分かち、

These are the inheritances which the children of Israel took in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest, Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of ancestral houses of the tribes of the children of Israel, distributed to them,

2 主がモーセによって命じられたように、くじによって、これを九つの部族と、半ばの部族とに、嗣業として与えた。

by the lot of their inheritance, as the LORD commanded by the hand of Moses, to give to the nine tribes, and for the half-tribe.

3 これはヨルダンの向こう側で、モーセがすでに他の二つの部族と、半ばの部族とに、嗣業を与えていたからである。ただしレビびとには、彼らの中で嗣業を与えず、

For Moses had given the inheritance of the two tribes and the half-tribe beyond the Jordan; but to the Levites he gave no inheritance among them.

4 ヨセフの子孫が、マナセと、エフライムの二つの部族となったからである。レビびとには土地の分け前を与えず、ただ、その住むべき町々および、家畜と持ち物とを置くための放牧地を与えたばかりであった。

For the descendants of Joseph were two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim: and they gave no portion to the Levites in the land, except cities to dwell in, with their suburbs for their livestock and for their property.

5 イスラエルの人々は、主がモーセに命じられたようにおこなって、その地を分けた。

The children of Israel did as the LORD commanded Moses, and they divided the land.

6 時に、ユダの人々がギルガルのヨシュアの所にきて、ケニズびとエフンネの子カレブが、ヨシュアに言った、「主がカデシ・バルネアで、あなたとわたしとについて、神の人モーセに言われたことを、あなたはごぞんじです。

Then the descendants of Judah drew near to Joshua in Gilgal. Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him, "You know the thing that the LORD spoke to Moses the man of God concerning me and concerning you in Kadesh Barnea.

7 主のしもべモーセが、この地を探るために、わたしをカデシ・バルネアからつかわした時、わたしは四十歳でした。そしてわたしは、自分の信ずるところを復命しました。

I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadesh Barnea to spy out the land. I brought him word again as it was in my heart.

8 しかし、共に上って行った兄弟たちは、民の心をくじいてしまいましたが、わたしは全くわが神、主に従いました。

Nevertheless, my brothers who went up with me made the heart of the people melt; but I wholly followed the LORD my God.

9 その日モーセは誓って、言いました、『おまえの足で踏んだ地は、かならず長くおまえと子孫との嗣業となるであろう。おまえが全くわが神、主に従ったからである』。

Moses swore on that day, saying, 'Surely the land where you walked shall be an inheritance to you and to your children forever, because you have wholly followed the LORD my God.'

10 主がこの言葉をモーセに語られた時からこのかた、イスラエルが荒野に歩んだ四十五年の間、主は言われたように、わたしを生きながらえさせてくださいました。わたしは今日すでに八十五歳ですが、

Now, look, the LORD has kept me alive, as he spoke, these forty-five years, from the time that the LORD spoke this word to Moses, while Israel walked in the wilderness. Now, look, I am eighty-five years old, today.

11 今もなお、モーセがわたしをつかわした日のように、健やかです。わたしの今の力は、あの時の力に劣らず、どんな働きにも、戦いにも堪えることができます。

I am still as strong today as I was in the day that Moses sent me: as my strength was then, even so is my strength now for war, to go out and to come in.

12 それで主があの日語られたこの山地を、どうか今、わたしにください。あの日あなたも聞いたように、そこにはアナキびとがいて、その町々は大きく堅固です。しかし、主がわたしと共におられて、わたしはついには、主が言われたように、彼らを追い払うことができるでしょう」。

Now therefore give me this hill country, of which the LORD spoke in that day; for you heard in that day how the Anakim were there, and great and fortified cities. It may be that the LORD will be with me, and I shall drive them out, as the LORD spoke."

13 そこでヨシュアはエフンネの子カレブを祝福し、ヘブロンを彼に与えて嗣業とさせた。

Joshua blessed him; and he gave Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh for an inheritance.

14 こうしてヘブロンは、ケニズびとエフンネの子カレブの嗣業となって、今日に至っている。彼が全くイスラエルの神、主に従ったからである。

Therefore Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day; because he wholly followed the LORD, the God of Israel.

15 ヘブロンの名は、もとはキリアテ・アルバといった。アルバは、アナキびとのうちの、最も大いなる人であった。こうしてこの地に戦争はやんだ。

Now the name of Hebron before was Kiriath Arba, after the greatest man among the Anakim. The land had rest from war.
