ヨシュア記 11
1 ハゾルの王ヤビンは、これを聞いて、マドンの王ヨバブ、シムロンの王、およびアクサフの王、
And it came to pass, when Jabin king of Hazor heard, that he sent unto Jobab king of Madon, and unto the king of Shimron, and unto the king of Achshaph;
2 また北の山地、キンネロテの南のアラバ、平地、西の方のドルの高地におる王たち、
and unto the kings who were on the north in the hill country and in the waste plain south of Chinneroth, and in the lowland, —and in the heights of Dor, on the west:
3 すなわち、東西のカナンびと、アモリびと、ヘテびと、ペリジびと、山地のエブスびと、ミヅパの地にあるヘルモンのふもとのヒビびとに使者をつかわした。
the Canaanite on the east and on the west, and the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite and the Jebusite, in the hill country, —and the Hivite, under Hermon, in the land of Mizpah;
4 そして彼らは、そのすべての軍勢を率いて出てきた。その大軍は浜べの砂のように数多く、馬と戦車も、ひじょうに多かった。
and they came out—they, and all their hosts with them, much people, like the sand that is upon the seashore for multitude, —with horses and chariots very many.
5 これらの王たちはみな軍を集め、進んできて、共にメロムの水のほとりに陣をしき、イスラエルと戦おうとした。
And, when all these kings were gathered together, they came in, and encamped as one man, at the waters of Merom, to fight with Israel.
6 その時、主はヨシュアに言われた、「彼らのゆえに恐れてはならない。あすの今ごろ、わたしは彼らを皆イスラエルに渡して、ことごとく殺させるであろう。あなたは彼らの馬の足の筋を切り、戦車を火で焼かなければならない」。
Then said Yahweh unto Joshua—Do not fear because of them, for, to-morrow, about this time, am I going to deliver up all of them, slain, before Israel, —their horses, shalt thou ham-string, and, their chariots, shalt thou burn up with fire.
7 そこでヨシュアは、すべてのいくさびとを率いて、にわかにメロムの水のほとりにおし寄せ、彼らを襲った。
So Joshua, and all the army with him, came in upon them, by the waters of Merom, suddenly, and fell upon them.
8 主は彼らをイスラエルの手に渡されたので、これを撃ち破り、大シドンおよびミスレポテ・マイムまで、これを追撃し、東の方では、ミヅパの谷まで彼らを追い、ついにひとりも残さず撃ちとった。
And Yahweh delivered them up into the hand of Israel, and they smote them, and chased them as far as great Zidon, and as far as Misrephoth-maim, and as far as the valley of Mizpeh, eastward, —yea they smote them until they left them not a survivor.
9 ヨシュアは主が命じられたとおりに彼らに行い、彼らの馬の足の筋を切り、戦車を火で焼いた。
And Joshua did unto them, as Yahweh had said unto him, —their horses, he ham-strung, and, their chariots, burned he up with fire.
10 その時、ヨシュアはひきかえして、ハゾルを取り、つるぎをもって、その王を撃った。ハゾルは昔、これらすべての国々の盟主であったからである。
Then Joshua turned back, at that time, and captured Hazor, and, the king thereof, smote he with the sword, —for, Hazor, aforetime, was the head of all these kingdoms.
11 彼らはつるぎをもって、その中のすべての人を撃ち、ことごとくそれを滅ぼし、息のあるものは、ひとりも残さなかった。そして火をもってハゾルを焼いた。
And they smote all the souls that were therein, with the edge of the sword, devoting them to destruction, there was left no breathing thing, —and, Hazor, burned he up with fire.
12 ヨシュアはこれらの王たちのすべての町々、およびその諸王を取り、つるぎをもって、これを撃ち、ことごとく滅ぼした。主のしもべモーセが命じたとおりであった。
And, all the cities of these kings, and all the kings thereof, did Joshua capture, and he smote them with the edge of the sword, devoting them to destruction, —as Moses, the servant of Yahweh, commanded.
13 ただし、丘の上に立っている町々をイスラエルは焼かなかった。ヨシュアはただハゾルだけを焼いた。
Yet, none of the cities that were still standing upon their mound, did Israel burn, none but Hazor alone, did Joshua burn.
14 これらの町のすべてのぶんどり物と家畜とは、イスラエルの人々が戦利品として取ったが、人はみなつるぎをもって、滅ぼし尽し、息のあるものは、ひとりも残さなかった。
But, all the spoil of these cities, and the cattle, did the sons of Israel take as their prey, —nevertheless, all the human beings, smote they with the edge of the sword, until they had destroyed them, they left remaining no breathing thing.
15 主がそのしもべモーセに命じられたように、モーセはヨシュアに命じたが、ヨシュアはそのとおりにおこなった。すべて主がモーセに命じられたことで、ヨシュアが行わなかったことは一つもなかった。
As Yahweh commanded Moses his servant, so, Moses commanded Joshua, and, so, Joshua, did, he set aside nothing of all that Yahweh commanded Moses.
16 こうしてヨシュアはその全地、すなわち、山地、ネゲブの全地、ゴセンの全地、平地、アラバならびにイスラエルの山地と平地を取り、
So Joshua took all this land—the hill country, and all the south, and all the land of Goshen, and the lowland, and the waste plain, —and the hill country of Israel, and the lowland thereof:
17 セイルへ上って行く道のハラク山から、ヘルモン山のふもとのレバノンの谷にあるバアルガデまでを獲た。そしてそれらの王たちを、ことごとく捕えて、撃ち殺した。
from Mount Halak, that goeth up to Seir, even as far as Baal-gad, in the valley of the Lebanon, under Mount Hermon, —and, all their kings, he captured, and smote them, and put them to death.
18 ヨシュアはこれらすべての王たちと、長いあいだ戦った。
Many days, did Joshua, with all these kings, make war.
19 ギベオンの住民ヒビびとのほかには、イスラエルの人々と和を講じた町は一つもなかった。町々はみな戦争をして、攻め取ったものであった。
There was not a city that made peace with the sons of Israel, save the Hivites dwelling in Gibeon, —the whole, took they in battle.
20 彼らが心をかたくなにして、イスラエルに攻めよせたのは、もともと主がそうさせられたので、彼らがのろわれた者となり、あわれみを受けず、ことごとく滅ぼされるためであった。主がモーセに命じられたとおりである。
For, from Yahweh, came it to pass, that their heart was emboldened to come out to war with Israel, that he might devote them to destruction, that they might find no favour, —but that he might destroy them, —as Yahweh commanded Moses.
21 その時、ヨシュアはまた行って、山地、ヘブロン、デビル、アナブ、ユダのすべての山地、イスラエルのすべての山地から、アナクびとを断ち、彼らの町々をも共に滅ぼした。
And Joshua came in, at that time, and cut off the Anakim from the hill country—from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, and from all the hill country of Judah, and from all the hill country of Israel, —with their cities, did Joshua devote them to destruction.
22 それでイスラエルの人々の地に、アナクびとは、ひとりもいなくなった。ただガサ、ガテ、アシドドには、少し残っているだけであった。
There was left remaining none of the Anakim, in the land of the sons of Israel, —save only, in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod, did some remain.
23 こうしてヨシュアはその地を、ことごとく取った。すべて主がモーセに告げられたとおりである。そしてヨシュアはイスラエルの部族にそれぞれの分を与えて、嗣業とさせた。こうしてその地に戦争はやんだ。
So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that Yahweh had spoken unto Moses, and Joshua gave it for an inheritance unto Israel, according to their portions by their tribes, —and, the land, had rest from war.
