ヨブ 記 14
1 女から生れる人は日が短く、悩みに満ちている。
Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble.
2 彼は花のように咲き出て枯れ、影のように飛び去って、とどまらない。
He cometh forth like a flower, and is cut down: he fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth not.
3 あなたはこのような者にさえ目を開き、あなたの前に引き出して、さばかれるであろうか。
And dost thou open thine eyes upon such an one, and bringest me into judgment with thee?
4 だれが汚れたもののうちから清いものを出すことができようか、ひとりもない。
Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? not one.
5 その日は定められ、その月の数もあなたと共にあり、あなたがその限りを定めて、越えることのできないようにされたのだから、
Seeing his days are determined, the number of his months are with thee, thou hast appointed his bounds that he cannot pass;
6 彼から目をはなし、手をひいてください。そうすれば彼は雇人のように、その日を楽しむことができるでしょう。
Turn from him, that he may rest, till he shall accomplish, as an hireling, his day.
7 木には望みがある。たとい切られてもまた芽をだし、その若枝は絶えることがない。
For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease.
8 たといその根が地の中に老い、その幹が土の中に枯れても、
Though the root thereof wax old in the earth, and the stock thereof die in the ground;
9 なお水の潤いにあえば芽をふき、若木のように枝を出す。
Yet through the scent of water it will bud, and bring forth boughs like a plant.
10 しかし人は死ねば消えうせる。息が絶えれば、どこにおるか。
But man dieth, and wasteth away: yea, man giveth up the ghost, and where is he?
11 水が湖から消え、川がかれて、かわくように、
As the waters fail from the sea, and the flood decayeth and drieth up:
12 人は伏して寝、また起きず、天のつきるまで、目ざめず、その眠りからさまされない。
So man lieth down, and riseth not: till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep.
O that thou wouldest hide me in the grave, that thou wouldest keep me secret, until thy wrath be past, that thou wouldest appoint me a set time, and remember me! (Sheol h7585)
14 人がもし死ねば、また生きるでしょうか。わたしはわが服役の諸日の間、わが解放の来るまで待つでしょう。
If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come.
15 あなたがお呼びになるとき、わたしは答えるでしょう。あなたはみ手のわざを顧みられるでしょう。
Thou shalt call, and I will answer thee: thou wilt have a desire to the work of thine hands.
16 その時あなたはわたしの歩みを数え、わたしの罪を見のがされるでしょう。
For now thou numberest my steps: dost thou not watch over my sin?
17 わたしのとがは袋の中に封じられ、あなたはわたしの罪を塗りかくされるでしょう。
My transgression is sealed up in a bag, and thou sewest up mine iniquity.
18 しかし山は倒れてくずれ、岩もその所から移される。
And surely the mountain falling cometh to nought, and the rock is removed out of his place.
19 水は石をうがち、大水は地のちりを洗い去る。このようにあなたは人の望みを断たれる。
The waters wear the stones: thou washest away the things which grow out of the dust of the earth; and thou destroyest the hope of man.
20 あなたはながく彼に勝って、彼を去り行かせ、彼の顔かたちを変らせて追いやられる。
Thou prevailest for ever against him, and he passeth: thou changest his countenance, and sendest him away.
21 彼の子らは尊くなっても、彼はそれを知らない、卑しくなっても、それを悟らない。
His sons come to honour, and he knoweth it not; and they are brought low, but he perceiveth it not of them.
22 ただおのが身に痛みを覚え、おのれのために嘆くのみである」。
But his flesh upon him shall have pain, and his soul within him shall mourn.
