エレミヤ書 14
1 ひでりの事についてエレミヤに臨んだ主の言葉。
The word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah concerning the droughts.
2 「ユダは悲しみ、その町々の門は傾き、民は地に座して嘆き、エルサレムの叫びはあがる。
Judah mourneth, and the gates thereof languish, they bow down in black unto the ground; and the cry of Jerusalem is gone up.
3 その君たちは、しもべをつかわして水をくませる。彼らが井戸の所にきても、水は見つからず、むなしい器をもって帰り、恥じ、かつ当惑して、その頭をおおう。
And their nobles send their lads for water: they come to the pits, and find no water; their vessels return empty; they are ashamed and confounded, and cover their heads.
4 地に雨が降らず、土が、かわいて割れたため、農夫は恥じて、その頭をおおう。
Because of the ground which is cracked, for there hath been no rain in the land, the plowmen are ashamed, they cover their heads.
5 野にいる雌じかでさえも子を産んで、これを捨てる。草がないからである。
Yea, the hind also in the field calveth, and forsaketh her young, because there is no grass,
6 野ろばは、はげ山の上に立って、山犬のようにあえぎ、草のないために、その目はくらむ。
And the wild asses stand on the high hills, they gasp for air like jackals; their eyes fail, because there is no herbage.
7 主よ、われわれの罪がわれわれを訴えて不利な証言をしても、あなたの名のために、事をなしてください。われわれの背信の数は多く、あなたに向かって罪を犯しました。
Though our iniquities testify against us, O LORD, work Thou for Thy name's sake; for our backslidings are many, we have sinned against Thee.
8 イスラエルの望みなる主よ、悩みの時の救主よ、なぜ、あなたはこの地に住む異邦の人のようにし、また一夜の宿りのために立ち寄る旅びとのようになさらねばならないのですか。
O Thou hope of Israel, the Saviour thereof in time of trouble, why shouldest Thou be as a stranger in the land, and as a wayfaring man that turneth aside to tarry for a night?
9 なぜ、あなたは、うろたえている人のようにし、また人を救いえない勇士のようになさらねばならないのですか。主よ、あなたはわれわれのうちにいらせられます。われわれは、み名によって呼ばれている者です。われわれを見捨てないでください」。
Why shouldest thou be as a man overcome, as a mighty man that cannot save? Yet Thou, O LORD, art in the midst of us, and Thy name is called upon us; leave us not.
10 この民について主はこう言われる、「彼らはこのように好んで、さまよい、その足をとどめることをしなかったので、主は彼らを喜ばず、いまそのとがを覚え、その罪を罰するのだ」。
Thus saith the LORD unto this people: Even so have they loved to wander, they have not refrained their feet; therefore the LORD doth not accept them, now will He remember their iniquity, and punish their sins.
11 主はわたしに言われた、「この民のために恵みを祈ってはならない。
And the LORD said unto me: 'Pray not for this people for their good.
12 彼らが断食しても、わたしは彼らの呼ぶのを聞かない。燔祭と素祭をささげても、わたしはそれを受けない。かえって、つるぎと、ききん、および疫病をもって、彼らを滅ぼしてしまう」。
When they fast, I will not hear their cry; and when they offer burnt-offering and meal-offering, I will not accept them; but I will consume them by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence.'
13 わたしは言った、「ああ、主なる神よ、預言者たちはこの民に向かい、『あなたがたは、つるぎを見ることはない。ききんもこない。わたしはこの所に確かな平安をあなたがたに与える』と言っています」。
Then said I: 'Ah, Lord GOD! behold, the prophets say unto them: Ye shall not see the sword, neither shall ye have famine; but I will give you assured peace in this place.'
14 主はわたしに言われた、「預言者らはわたしの名によって偽りの預言をしている。わたしは彼らをつかわさなかった。また彼らに命じたこともなく、話したこともない。彼らは偽りの黙示と、役に立たない占い、および自分の心でつくりあげた欺きをあなたがたに預言しているのだ。
Then the LORD said unto me: 'The prophets prophesy lies in My name; I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spoke I unto them; they prophesy unto you a lying vision, and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their own heart.
15 それゆえ、わたしがつかわさないのに、わたしの名によって預言して、『つるぎとききんは、この地にこない』と言っているあの預言者について、主はこう仰せられる、この預言者らは、つるぎとききんに滅ぼされる。
Therefore thus saith the LORD: As for the prophets that prophesy in My name, and I sent them not, yet they say: Sword and famine shall not be in this land, by sword and famine shall those prophets be consumed;
16 また彼らの預言を聞く民は、ききんとつるぎとによって、エルサレムのちまたに投げ捨てられる。だれもこれを葬る者はない。彼らとその妻、およびそのむすこ娘も同様である。わたしが彼らの悪をその上に注ぐからである。
and the people to whom they prophesy shall be cast out in the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword; and they shall have none to bury them, them, their wives, nor their sons, nor their daughters; for I will pour their evil upon them.'
17 この言葉を彼らに語れ、『わたしの目は夜も昼も絶えず涙を流す。わが民の娘であるおとめが大きな傷と重い打撃によって滅ぼされるからである。
And thou shalt say this word unto them: Let mine eyes run down with tears night and day, and let them not cease; for the virgin daughter of my people is broken with a great breach, with a very grievous blow.
18 わたしが出て畑に行くと、つるぎで殺された者がある。町にはいると、ききんで病んでいる者がある。預言者も祭司も共にその地にさまよって、知るところがない』」。
If I go forth into the field, then behold the slain with the sword! And if I enter into the city, then behold them that are sick with famine! For both the prophet and the priest are gone about to a land, and knew it not.
19 あなたはまったくユダを捨てられたのですか。あなたの心はシオンをきらわれるのですか。あなたはわれわれを撃ったのに、どうしていやしてはくださらないのですか。われわれは平安を望んだが、良い事はこなかった。いやされる時を望んだが、かえって恐怖が来た。
Hast Thou utterly rejected Judah? Hath Thy soul loathed Zion? Why hast Thou smitten us, and there is no healing for us? We looked for peace, but no good came; and for a time of healing, and behold terror!
20 主よ、われわれは自分の悪と、先祖のとがとを認めています。われわれはあなたに罪を犯しました。
We acknowledge, O LORD, our wickedness, even the iniquity of our fathers; for we have sinned against Thee.
21 み名のために、われわれを捨てないでください。あなたの栄えあるみ位をはずかしめないでください。あなたがわれわれにお立てになった契約を覚えて、それを破らないでください。
Do not contemn us, for Thy name's sake, do not dishonour the throne of Thy glory; remember, break not Thy covenant with us.
22 異邦の偽りの神々のうちに、雨を降らせうる者があるであろうか。天が自分で夕立ちを降らすことができようか。われわれの神、主よ、あなたこそ、これをなさる方ではありませんか。われわれの待ち望むのはあなたです。あなたがこれらすべてのことをなさるからです。
Are there any among the vanities of the nations that can cause rain? or can the heavens give showers? Art not Thou He, O LORD our God, and do we not wait for Thee? For Thou hast made all these things.
