イザヤ書 29
1 ああ、アリエルよ、アリエルよ、ダビデが営をかまえた町よ、年に年を加え、祭をめぐりこさせよ。
Woe to Ariel, to Ariel, the city where David dwelt! add ye year to year; let them kill sacrifices.
2 その時わたしはアリエルを悩ます。そこには悲しみと嘆きとがあって、アリエルのようなものとなる。
Yet I will distress Ariel, and there shall be heaviness and sorrow: and it shall be unto me as Ariel.
3 わたしはあなたのまわりに営を構え、やぐらをもってあなたを囲み、塁を築いてあなたを攻める。
And I will camp against thee round about, and will lay siege against thee with a mount, and I will raise forts against thee.
4 その時あなたは深い地の中から物言い、低いちりの中から言葉を出す。あなたの声は亡霊の声のように地から出、あなたの言葉はちりの中から、さえずるようである。
And thou shalt be brought down, and shalt speak out of the ground, and thy speech shall be low out of the dust, and thy voice shall be, as of one that hath a familiar spirit, out of the ground, and thy speech shall whisper out of the dust.
5 しかしあなたのあだの群れは細かなちりのようになり、あらぶる者の群れは吹き去られるもみがらのようになる。また、にわかに、またたくまに、この事がある。
Moreover the multitude of thy strangers shall be like small dust, and the multitude of the terrible ones shall be as chaff that passeth away: yea, it shall be at an instant suddenly.
6 すなわち万軍の主は雷、地震、大いなる叫び、つむじ風、暴風および焼きつくす火の炎をもって臨まれる。
Thou shalt be visited of YHWH of hosts with thunder, and with earthquake, and great noise, with storm and tempest, and the flame of devouring fire.
7 そしてアリエルを攻めて戦う国々の群れ、すなわちアリエルとその城を攻めて戦い、これを悩ます者はみな夢のように、夜の幻のようになる。
And the multitude of all the nations that fight against Ariel, even all that fight against her and her munition, and that distress her, shall be as a dream of a night vision.
8 飢えた者が食べることを夢みても、さめると、その飢えがいえないように、あるいは、かわいた者が飲むことを夢みても、さめると、疲れてそのかわきがとまらないように、シオンの山を攻めて戦う国々の群れもそのようになる。
It shall even be as when an hungry man dreameth, and, behold, he eateth; but he awaketh, and his soul is empty: or as when a thirsty man dreameth, and, behold, he drinketh; but he awaketh, and, behold, he is faint, and his soul hath appetite: so shall the multitude of all the nations be, that fight against mount Zion.
9 あなたがたは知覚を失って気が遠くなれ、目がくらんで盲となれ。あなたがたは酔っていよ、しかし酒のゆえではない、よろめけ、しかし濃き酒のゆえではない。
Stay yourselves, and wonder; cry ye out, and cry: they are drunken, but not with wine; they stagger, but not with strong drink.
10 主が深い眠りの霊をあなたがたの上にそそぎ、あなたがたの目である預言者を閉じこめ、あなたがたの頭である先見者をおおわれたからである。
For YHWH hath poured out upon you the spirit of deep sleep, and hath closed your eyes: the prophets and your rulers, the seers hath he covered.
11 それゆえ、このすべての幻は、あなたがたには封じた書物の言葉のようになり、人々はこれを読むことのできる者にわたして、「これを読んでください」と言えば、「これは封じてあるから読むことができない」と彼は言う。
And the vision of all is become unto you as the words of a book that is sealed, which men deliver to one that is learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I cannot; for it is sealed:
12 またその書物を読むことのできない者にわたして、「これを読んでください」と言えば、「読むことはできない」と彼は言う。
And the book is delivered to him that is not learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I am not learned.
13 主は言われた、「この民は口をもってわたしに近づき、くちびるをもってわたしを敬うけれども、その心はわたしから遠く離れ、彼らのわたしをかしこみ恐れるのは、そらで覚えた人の戒めによるのである。
Wherefore YHWH said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:
14 それゆえ、見よ、わたしはこの民に、再び驚くべきわざを行う、それは不思議な驚くべきわざである。彼らのうちの賢い人の知恵は滅び、さとい人の知識は隠される」。
Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvellous work among this people, even a marvellous work and a wonder: for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid.
15 わざわいなるかな、おのが計りごとを主に深く隠す者。彼らは暗い中でわざを行い、「だれがわれわれを見るか、だれがわれわれのことを知るか」と言う。
Woe unto them that seek deep to hide their counsel from YHWH, and their works are in the dark, and they say, Who seeth us? and who knoweth us?
16 あなたがたは転倒して考えている。陶器師は粘土と同じものに思われるだろうか。造られた物はそれを造った者について、「彼はわたしを造らなかった」と言い、形造られた物は形造った者について、「彼は知恵がない」と言うことができようか。
Surely your turning of things upside down shall be esteemed as the potter's clay: for shall the work say of him that made it, He made me not? or shall the thing framed say of him that framed it, He had no understanding?
17 しばらくしてレバノンは変って肥えた畑となり、肥えた畑は林のように思われる時が来るではないか。
Is it not yet a very little while, and Lebanon shall be turned into a fruitful field, and the fruitful field shall be esteemed as a forest?
18 その日、耳しいは書物の言葉を聞き、目しいの目はその暗やみから、見ることができる。
And in that day shall the deaf hear the words of the book, and the eyes of the blind shall see out of obscurity, and out of darkness.
19 柔和な者は主によって新たなる喜びを得、人のなかの貧しい者はイスラエルの聖者によって楽しみを得る。
The meek also shall increase their joy in YHWH, and the poor among men shall rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.
20 あらぶる者は絶え、あざける者はうせ、悪を行おうと、おりをうかがう者は、ことごとく断ち滅ぼされるからである。
For the terrible one is brought to nought, and the scorner is consumed, and all that watch for iniquity are cut off:
21 彼らは言葉によって人を罪に定め、町の門でいさめる者をわなにおとしいれ、むなしい言葉をかまえて正しい者をしりぞける。
That make a man an offender for a word, and lay a snare for him that reproveth in the gate, and turn aside the just for a thing of nought.
22 それゆえ、昔アブラハムをあがなわれた主は、ヤコブの家についてこう言われる、「ヤコブは、もはやはずかしめを受けず、その顔は、もはや色を失うことはない。
Therefore thus saith YHWH, who redeemed Abraham, concerning the house of Jacob, Jacob shall not now be ashamed, neither shall his face now wax pale.
23 彼の子孫が、その中にわが手のわざを見るとき、彼らはわが名を聖とし、ヤコブの聖者を聖として、イスラエルの神を恐れる。
But when he seeth his children, the work of mine hands, in the midst of him, they shall sanctify my name, and sanctify the Holy One of Jacob, and shall fear the Elohim of Israel.
24 心のあやまれる者も、悟りを得、つぶやく者も教をうける」。
They also that erred in spirit shall come to understanding, and they that murmured shall learn doctrine.
