イザヤ書 21
1 海の荒野についての託宣。つむじ風がネゲブを吹き過ぎるように、荒野から、恐るべき地から、来るものがある。
The burden of the wilderness of the sea. As whirlwinds in the South sweeping on, it cometh from the wilderness, from a dreadful land.
2 わたしは一つのきびしい幻を示された。かすめ奪う者はかすめ奪い、滅ぼす者は滅ぼす。エラムよ、のぼれ、メデアよ、囲め。わたしはすべての嘆きをやめさせる。
A grievous vision is declared unto me: 'The treacherous dealer dealeth treacherously, and the spoiler spoileth. Go up, O Elam! besiege, O Media! All the sighing thereof have I made to cease.'
3 それゆえ、わが腰は激しい痛みに満たされ、出産に臨む女の苦しみのような苦しみがわたしを捕えた。わたしは、かがんで聞くことができず、恐れおののいて見ることができない。
Therefore are my loins filled with convulsion; pangs have taken hold upon me, as the pangs of a woman in travail; I am bent so that I cannot hear; I am affrighted so that I cannot see.
4 わが心はみだれ惑い、わななき恐れること、はなはだしく、わたしのあこがれたたそがれは変っておののきとなった。
My heart is bewildered, terror hath overwhelmed me; the twilight that I longed for hath been turned for me into trembling.
5 彼らは食卓を設け、じゅうたんを敷いて食い飲みする。もろもろの君よ、立って、盾に油をぬれ。
They prepare the table, they light the lamps, they eat, they drink — 'Rise up, ye princes, anoint the shield.'
6 主はわたしにこう言われた、「行って、見張びとをおき、その見るところを告げさせよ。
For thus hath the Lord said unto me: Go, set a watchman; let him declare what he seeth!
7 馬に乗って二列に並んだ者と、ろばに乗った者と、らくだに乗った者とを彼が見るならば、耳を傾けてつまびらかに聞かせよ」。
And when he seeth a troop, horsemen by pairs, a troop of asses, a troop of camels, he shall hearken diligently with much heed.
8 その時、見張びとは呼ばわって言った、「主よ、わたしがひねもすやぐらに立ち、夜もすがらわが見張所に立っていると、
And he cried as a lion: 'Upon the watch-tower, O Lord, I stand continually in the daytime, and I am set in my ward all the nights.'
9 見よ、馬に乗って二列に並んだ者がここに来ます」。彼は答えて言った、「倒れた、バビロンは倒れた、その神々の像はことごとく打ち砕かれて地に伏した」。
And, behold, there came a troop of men, horsemen by pairs. And he spoke and said: 'Fallen, fallen is Babylon; and all the graven images of her gods are broken unto the ground.'
10 ああ、踏みにじられたわが民、わが打ち場の子よ、イスラエルの神、万軍の主からわたしが聞いたところのものをあなたがたに告げる。
O thou my threshing, and the winnowing of my floor, that which I have heard from the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, have I declared unto you.
11 ドマについての託宣。セイルからわたしに呼ばわる者がある、「夜回りよ、今は夜のなんどきですか、夜回りよ、今は夜のなんどきですか」。
The burden of Dumah. One calleth unto me out of Seir: 'Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night?'
12 夜回りは言う、「朝がきます、夜もまたきます。もしあなたがたが聞こうと思うならば聞きなさい、また来なさい」。
The watchman said: 'The morning cometh, and also the night — if ye will inquire, inquire ye; return, come.'
13 アラビヤについての託宣。デダンびとの隊商よ、あなたがたはアラビヤの林にやどる。
The burden upon Arabia. In the thickets in Arabia shall ye lodge, O ye caravans of Dedanites.
14 テマの地に住む民よ、水を携えて、かわいた者を迎え、パンをもって、逃げのがれた者を迎えよ。
Unto him that is thirsty bring ye water! The inhabitants of the land of Tema did meet the fugitive with his bread.
15 彼らはつるぎを避け、抜いたつるぎを避け、張った弓を避け、また激しい戦いを避けて、逃げてきたからである。
For they fled away from the swords, from the drawn sword, and from the bent bow, and from the grievousness of war.
16 主はわたしにこう言われた、「雇人の年期のように一年以内にケダルのすべての栄華はつきはてる。
For thus hath the Lord said unto me: 'Within a year, according to the years of a hireling, and all the glory of Kedar shall fail;
17 ケダルの子らの勇士で、射手の残る者は少ない」。これはイスラエルの神、主が語られたのである。
and the residue of the number of the archers, the mighty men of the children of Kedar, shall be diminished; for the LORD, the God of Israel, hath spoken it.'
