創世記 4
1 人はその妻エバを知った。彼女はみごもり、カインを産んで言った、「わたしは主によって、ひとりの人を得た」。
And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from YHWH.
2 彼女はまた、その弟アベルを産んだ。アベルは羊を飼う者となり、カインは土を耕す者となった。
And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.
3 日がたって、カインは地の産物を持ってきて、主に供え物とした。
And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto YHWH.
4 アベルもまた、その群れのういごと肥えたものとを持ってきた。主はアベルとその供え物とを顧みられた。
And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And YHWH had respect unto Abel and to his offering:
5 しかしカインとその供え物とは顧みられなかったので、カインは大いに憤って、顔を伏せた。
But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.
6 そこで主はカインに言われた、「なぜあなたは憤るのですか、なぜ顔を伏せるのですか。
And YHWH said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?
7 正しい事をしているのでしたら、顔をあげたらよいでしょう。もし正しい事をしていないのでしたら、罪が門口に待ち伏せています。それはあなたを慕い求めますが、あなたはそれを治めなければなりません」。
If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
8 カインは弟アベルに言った、「さあ、野原へ行こう」。彼らが野にいたとき、カインは弟アベルに立ちかかって、これを殺した。
And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.
9 主はカインに言われた、「弟アベルは、どこにいますか」。カインは答えた、「知りません。わたしが弟の番人でしょうか」。
And YHWH said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother's keeper?
10 主は言われた、「あなたは何をしたのです。あなたの弟の血の声が土の中からわたしに叫んでいます。
And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground.
11 今あなたはのろわれてこの土地を離れなければなりません。この土地が口をあけて、あなたの手から弟の血を受けたからです。
And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand;
12 あなたが土地を耕しても、土地は、もはやあなたのために実を結びません。あなたは地上の放浪者となるでしょう」。
When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.
13 カインは主に言った、「わたしの罰は重くて負いきれません。
And Cain said unto YHWH, My punishment is greater than I can bear.
14 あなたは、きょう、わたしを地のおもてから追放されました。わたしはあなたを離れて、地上の放浪者とならねばなりません。わたしを見付ける人はだれでもわたしを殺すでしょう」。
Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me.
15 主はカインに言われた、「いや、そうではない。だれでもカインを殺す者は七倍の復讐を受けるでしょう」。そして主はカインを見付ける者が、だれも彼を打ち殺すことのないように、彼に一つのしるしをつけられた。
And YHWH said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And YHWH set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.
16 カインは主の前を去って、エデンの東、ノドの地に住んだ。
And Cain went out from the presence of YHWH, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.
17 カインはその妻を知った。彼女はみごもってエノクを産んだ。カインは町を建て、その町の名をその子の名にしたがって、エノクと名づけた。
And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch.
18 エノクにはイラデが生れた。イラデの子はメホヤエル、メホヤエルの子はメトサエル、メトサエルの子はレメクである。
And unto Enoch was born Irad: and Irad begat Mehujael: and Mehujael begat Methusael: and Methusael begat Lamech.
19 レメクはふたりの妻をめとった。ひとりの名はアダといい、ひとりの名はチラといった。
And Lamech took unto him two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah.
20 アダはヤバルを産んだ。彼は天幕に住んで、家畜を飼う者の先祖となった。
And Adah bare Jabal: he was the father of such as dwell in tents, and of such as have cattle.
21 その弟の名はユバルといった。彼は琴や笛を執るすべての者の先祖となった。
And his brother's name was Jubal: he was the father of all such as handle the harp and organ.
22 チラもまたトバルカインを産んだ。彼は青銅や鉄のすべての刃物を鍛える者となった。トバルカインの妹をナアマといった。
And Zillah, she also bare Tubal-cain, an instructer of every artificer in brass and iron: and the sister of Tubal-cain was Naamah.
23 レメクはその妻たちに言った、「アダとチラよ、わたしの声を聞け、レメクの妻たちよ、わたしの言葉に耳を傾けよ。わたしは受ける傷のために、人を殺し、受ける打ち傷のために、わたしは若者を殺す。
And Lamech said unto his wives, Adah and Zillah, Hear my voice; ye wives of Lamech, hearken unto my speech: for I have slain a man to my wounding, and a young man to my hurt.
24 カインのための復讐が七倍ならば、レメクのための復讐は七十七倍」。
If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, truly Lamech seventy and sevenfold.
25 アダムはまたその妻を知った。彼女は男の子を産み、その名をセツと名づけて言った、「カインがアベルを殺したので、神はアベルの代りに、ひとりの子をわたしに授けられました」。
And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For Elohim, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.
26 セツにもまた男の子が生れた。彼はその名をエノスと名づけた。この時、人々は主の名を呼び始めた。
And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of YHWH.
