創世記 18
1 主はマムレのテレビンの木のかたわらでアブラハムに現れられた。それは昼の暑いころで、彼は天幕の入口にすわっていたが、
And Jehovah appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre. And he sat at the tent-door in the heat of the day.
2 目を上げて見ると、三人の人が彼に向かって立っていた。彼はこれを見て、天幕の入口から走って行って彼らを迎え、地に身をかがめて、
And he lifted up his eyes and saw, and behold, three men standing near him. And when he saw [them], he ran to meet them from the tent-door, and bowed himself to the earth,
3 言った、「わが主よ、もしわたしがあなたの前に恵みを得ているなら、どうぞしもべを通り過ごさないでください。
and said, Lord, if now I have found favour in thine eyes, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy servant.
4 水をすこし取ってこさせますから、あなたがたは足を洗って、この木の下でお休みください。
Let now a little water be fetched, that ye may wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree.
5 わたしは一口のパンを取ってきます。元気をつけて、それからお出かけください。せっかくしもべの所においでになったのですから」。彼らは言った、「お言葉どおりにしてください」。
And I will fetch a morsel of bread; and refresh yourselves; after that ye shall pass on; for therefore have ye passed on towards your servant. And they said, So do as thou hast said.
6 そこでアブラハムは急いで天幕に入り、サラの所に行って言った、「急いで細かい麦粉三セヤをとり、こねてパンを造りなさい」。
And Abraham hastened into the tent to Sarah, and said, Knead quickly three seahs of wheaten flour, and make cakes.
7 アブラハムは牛の群れに走って行き、柔らかな良い子牛を取って若者に渡したので、急いで調理した。
And Abraham ran to the herd, and took a calf tender and good, and gave [it] to the attendant; and he hasted to dress it.
8 そしてアブラハムは凝乳と牛乳および子牛の調理したものを取って、彼らの前に供え、木の下で彼らのかたわらに立って給仕し、彼らは食事した。
And he took thick and sweet milk, and the calf that he had dressed, and set [it] before them; and he stood before them under the tree, and they ate.
9 彼らはアブラハムに言った、「あなたの妻サラはどこにおられますか」。彼は言った、「天幕の中です」。
And they said to him, Where is Sarah thy wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent.
10 そのひとりが言った、「来年の春、わたしはかならずあなたの所に帰ってきましょう。その時、あなたの妻サラには男の子が生れているでしょう」。サラはうしろの方の天幕の入口で聞いていた。
And he said, I will certainly return to thee at [this] time of the year, and behold, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah was listening at the tent-door, which was behind him.
11 さてアブラハムとサラとは年がすすみ、老人となり、サラは女の月のものが、すでに止まっていた。
Now Abraham and Sarah were old [and] advanced in age: it had ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women.
12 それでサラは心の中で笑って言った、「わたしは衰え、主人もまた老人であるのに、わたしに楽しみなどありえようか」。
And Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am become old, shall I have pleasure, and my lord old?
13 主はアブラハムに言われた、「なぜサラは、わたしは老人であるのに、どうして子を産むことができようかと言って笑ったのか。
And Jehovah said to Abraham, Why is this, that Sarah laughs, saying, Shall I indeed bear, when I am become old?
14 主にとって不可能なことがありましょうか。来年の春、定めの時に、わたしはあなたの所に帰ってきます。そのときサラには男の子が生れているでしょう」。
Is [any] matter too wonderful for Jehovah? At the time appointed I will return to thee, at [this] time of the year, and Sarah shall have a son.
15 サラは恐れたので、これを打ち消して言った、「わたしは笑いません」。主は言われた、「いや、あなたは笑いました」。
And Sarah denied, saying, I did not laugh; for she was afraid. And he said, No; but thou didst laugh.
16 その人々はそこを立ってソドムの方に向かったので、アブラハムは彼らを見送って共に行った。
And the men rose up thence, and looked toward Sodom; and Abraham went with them to conduct them.
17 時に主は言われた、「わたしのしようとする事をアブラハムに隠してよいであろうか。
And Jehovah said, Shall I hide from Abraham what I am doing?
18 アブラハムは必ず大きな強い国民となって、地のすべての民がみな、彼によって祝福を受けるのではないか。
Since Abraham shall indeed become a great and mighty nation; and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him.
19 わたしは彼が後の子らと家族とに命じて主の道を守らせ、正義と公道とを行わせるために彼を知ったのである。これは主がかつてアブラハムについて言った事を彼の上に臨ませるためである」。
For I know him that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of Jehovah, to do righteousness and justice, in order that Jehovah may bring upon Abraham what he hath spoken of him.
20 主はまた言われた、「ソドムとゴモラの叫びは大きく、またその罪は非常に重いので、
And Jehovah said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great and their sin is very grievous,
21 わたしはいま下って、わたしに届いた叫びのとおりに、すべて彼らがおこなっているかどうかを見て、それを知ろう」。
I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come to me; and if not, I will know [it].
22 その人々はそこから身を巡らしてソドムの方に行ったが、アブラハムはなお、主の前に立っていた。
And the men turned thence, and went towards Sodom; and Abraham remained yet standing before Jehovah.
23 アブラハムは近寄って言った、「まことにあなたは正しい者を、悪い者と一緒に滅ぼされるのですか。
And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also cause the righteous to perish with the wicked?
24 たとい、あの町に五十人の正しい者があっても、あなたはなお、その所を滅ぼし、その中にいる五十人の正しい者のためにこれをゆるされないのですか。
There are perhaps fifty righteous within the city: wilt thou also destroy and not forgive the place for the sake of the fifty righteous that are therein?
25 正しい者と悪い者とを一緒に殺すようなことを、あなたは決してなさらないでしょう。正しい者と悪い者とを同じようにすることも、あなたは決してなさらないでしょう。全地をさばく者は公義を行うべきではありませんか」。
Far be it from thee to do so, to slay the righteous with the wicked, that the righteous should be as the wicked — far be it from thee! Will not the Judge of all the earth do right?
26 主は言われた、「もしソドムで町の中に五十人の正しい者があったら、その人々のためにその所をすべてゆるそう」。
And Jehovah said, If I find at Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will forgive all the place for their sakes.
27 アブラハムは答えて言った、「わたしはちり灰に過ぎませんが、あえてわが主に申します。
And Abraham answered and said, Behold now, I have ventured to speak unto the Lord; I, who am dust and ashes.
28 もし五十人の正しい者のうち五人欠けたなら、その五人欠けたために町を全く滅ぼされますか」。主は言われた、「もしそこに四十五人いたら、滅ぼさないであろう」。
Perhaps there may want five of the fifty righteous: wilt thou destroy all the city on account of the five? And he said, If I shall find forty-five there, I will not destroy [it].
29 アブラハムはまた重ねて主に言った、「もしそこに四十人いたら」。主は言われた、「その四十人のために、これをしないであろう」。
And he continued yet to speak with him, and said, Perhaps there may be forty found there. And he said, I will not do it for the forty's sake.
30 アブラハムは言った、「わが主よ、どうかお怒りにならぬよう。わたしは申します。もしそこに三十人いたら」。主は言われた、「そこに三十人いたら、これをしないであろう」。
And he said, Oh, let not the Lord be angry that I speak! Perhaps there may be thirty found there. And he said, I will not do it if I find thirty there.
31 アブラハムは言った、「いまわたしはあえてわが主に申します。もしそこに二十人いたら」。主は言われた、「わたしはその二十人のために滅ぼさないであろう」。
And he said, Behold now, I have ventured to speak with the Lord. Perhaps there may be twenty found there. And he said, I will not destroy [it] for the twenty's sake.
32 アブラハムは言った、「わが主よ、どうかお怒りにならぬよう。わたしはいま一度申します、もしそこに十人いたら」。主は言われた、「わたしはその十人のために滅ぼさないであろう」。
And he said, Oh, let not the Lord be angry, that I speak yet but this time! Perhaps there may be ten found there. And he said, I will not destroy [it] for the ten's sake.
33 主はアブラハムと語り終り、去って行かれた。アブラハムは自分の所に帰った。
And Jehovah went away when he had ended speaking to Abraham; and Abraham returned to his place.
