出エジプト記 32
1 民はモーセが山を下ることのおそいのを見て、アロンのもとに集まって彼に言った、「さあ、わたしたちに先立って行く神を、わたしたちのために造ってください。わたしたちをエジプトの国から導きのぼった人、あのモーセはどうなったのかわからないからです」。
When the people saw that Moses [Drawn out] delayed to come down from the mountain, the people gathered themselves together to Aaron [Light-bringer], and said to him, “Come, make us deities, which shall lead us; for this Moses [Drawn out], the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt [Abode of slavery], we don’t know what has become of him.”
2 アロンは彼らに言った、「あなたがたの妻、むすこ、娘らの金の耳輪をはずしてわたしに持ってきなさい」。
Aaron [Light-bringer] said to them, “Take off the golden rings, which are in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring them to me.”
3 そこで民は皆その金の耳輪をはずしてアロンのもとに持ってきた。
All the people took off the golden rings which were in their ears, and brought them to Aaron [Light-bringer].
4 アロンがこれを彼らの手から受け取り、工具で型を造り、鋳て子牛としたので、彼らは言った、「イスラエルよ、これはあなたをエジプトの国から導きのぼったあなたの神である」。
He received what they handed him, and fashioned it with an engraving tool, and made it a molten calf; and they said, “These are your deities, Israel [God prevails], which brought you up out of the land of Egypt [Abode of slavery].”
5 アロンはこれを見て、その前に祭壇を築いた。そしてアロンは布告して言った、「あすは主の祭である」。
When Aaron [Light-bringer] saw this, he built an altar before it; and Aaron [Light-bringer] made a proclamation, and said, “Tomorrow shall be a feast to Adonai.”
6 そこで人々はあくる朝早く起きて燔祭をささげ、酬恩祭を供えた。民は座して食い飲みし、立って戯れた。
They rose up early on the next day, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to pray.
7 主はモーセに言われた、「急いで下りなさい。あなたがエジプトの国から導きのぼったあなたの民は悪いことをした。
Adonai spoke to Moses [Drawn out], “Go, get down; for your people, who you brought up out of the land of Egypt [Abode of slavery], have corrupted themselves!
8 彼らは早くもわたしが命じた道を離れ、自分のために鋳物の子牛を造り、これを拝み、これに犠牲をささげて、『イスラエルよ、これはあなたをエジプトの国から導きのぼったあなたの神である』と言っている」。
They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I enjoined them. They have made themselves a molten calf, and have worshiped it, and have sacrificed to it, and said, ‘These are your deities, Israel [God prevails], which brought you up out of the land of Egypt [Abode of slavery].’”
9 主はまたモーセに言われた、「わたしはこの民を見た。これはかたくなな民である。
Adonai said to Moses [Drawn out], “I have seen these people, and behold, they are a stiff-necked people.
10 それで、わたしをとめるな。わたしの怒りは彼らにむかって燃え、彼らを滅ぼしつくすであろう。しかし、わたしはあなたを大いなる国民とするであろう」。
Now therefore leave me alone, that my wrath may burn hot against them, and that I may consume them; and I will make of you a great nation.”
11 モーセはその神、主をなだめて言った、「主よ、大いなる力と強き手をもって、エジプトの国から導き出されたあなたの民にむかって、なぜあなたの怒りが燃えるのでしょうか。
Moses [Drawn out] begged Adonai his God, and said, “Adonai, why does your wrath burn hot against your people, that you have brought out of the land of Egypt [Abode of slavery] with great power and with a mighty hand?
12 どうしてエジプトびとに『彼は悪意をもって彼らを導き出し、彼らを山地で殺し、地の面から断ち滅ぼすのだ』と言わせてよいでしょうか。どうかあなたの激しい怒りをやめ、あなたの民に下そうとされるこの災を思い直し、
Why should the Egyptians [people from Abode of slavery] speak, saying, ‘He brought them out for evil, to kill them in the mountains, and to consume them from the surface of the earth?’ Turn from your fierce wrath, and teshuvah ·turn repent· of this evil against your people.
13 あなたのしもべアブラハム、イサク、イスラエルに、あなたが御自身をさして誓い、『わたしは天の星のように、あなたがたの子孫を増し、わたしが約束したこの地を皆あなたがたの子孫に与えて、長くこれを所有させるであろう』と彼らに仰せられたことを覚えてください」。
Remember Abraham [Father of a multitude], Isaac [Laughter], and Israel [God prevails], your servants, to whom you swore by your own self, and said to them, ‘I will multiply your offspring as the stars of the sky, and all this land that I have spoken of I will give to your offspring, and they shall inherit it forever.’”
14 それで、主はその民に下すと言われた災について思い直された。
Adonai changed his mind concerning the disaster which he planned for his people.
15 モーセは身を転じて山を下った。彼の手には、かの二枚のあかしの板があった。板はその両面に文字があった。すなわち、この面にも、かの面にも文字があった。
Moses [Drawn out] turned, and went down from the mountain, with the two tablets of the testimony in his hand; tablets that were written on both their sides; on the one side and on the other they were written.
16 その板は神の作、その文字は神の文字であって、板に彫ったものである。
The tablets were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God, engraved on the tables.
17 ヨシュアは民の呼ばわる声を聞いて、モーセに言った、「宿営の中に戦いの声がします」。
When Joshua [Salvation Yah] sh'ma ·heard obeyed· the noise of the people as they shouted, he said to Moses [Drawn out], “There is the noise of war in the camp.”
18 しかし、モーセは言った、「勝どきの声でなく、敗北の叫び声でもない。わたしの聞くのは歌の声である」。
He said, “It is not the voice of those who shout for victory. It is not the voice of those who cry for being overcome; but the noise of those who sing that I sh'ma ·hear obey·.”
19 モーセが宿営に近づくと、子牛と踊りとを見たので、彼は怒りに燃え、手からかの板を投げうち、これを山のふもとで砕いた。
As soon as he came near to the camp, he saw the calf and the dancing. Then Moses [Drawn out]’ anger grew hot, and he threw the tablets out of his hands, and broke them beneath the mountain.
20 また彼らが造った子牛を取って火に焼き、こなごなに砕き、これを水の上にまいて、イスラエルの人々に飲ませた。
He took the calf which they had made, and burned it with fire, ground it to powder, and scattered it on the water, and made the children of Israel [God prevails] drink of it.
21 モーセはアロンに言った、「この民があなたに何をしたので、あなたは彼らに大いなる罪を犯させたのですか」。
Moses [Drawn out] said to Aaron [Light-bringer], “What did these people do to you, that you have brought a great sin on them?”
22 アロンは言った、「わが主よ、激しく怒らないでください。この民の悪いのは、あなたがごぞんじです。
Aaron [Light-bringer] said, “Don’t let the anger of my lord grow hot. You know the people, that they are set on evil.
23 彼らはわたしに言いました、『わたしたちに先立って行く神を、わたしたちのために造ってください。わたしたちをエジプトの国から導きのぼった人、あのモーセは、どうなったのかわからないからです』。
For they said to me, ‘Make us deities to lead us; for this Moses [Drawn out], the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt [Abode of slavery], we don’t know what has become of him.’
24 そこでわたしは『だれでも、金を持っている者は、それを取りはずしなさい』と彼らに言いました。彼らがそれをわたしに渡したので、わたしがこれを火に投げ入れると、この子牛が出てきたのです」。
I said to them, ‘Whoever has any gold, let them take it off:’ so they gave it to me; and I threw it into the fire, and out came this calf.”
25 モーセは民がほしいままにふるまったのを見た。アロンは彼らがほしいままにふるまうに任せ、敵の中に物笑いとなったからである。
When Moses [Drawn out] saw that the people had broken loose, (for Aaron [Light-bringer] had let them loose for a derision among their enemies),
26 モーセは宿営の門に立って言った、「すべて主につく者はわたしのもとにきなさい」。レビの子たちはみな彼のもとに集まった。
then Moses [Drawn out] stood in the gate of the camp, and said, “Whoever is on Adonai’s side, come to me!” All the sons of Levi [United with] gathered themselves together to him.
27 そこでモーセは彼らに言った、「イスラエルの神、主はこう言われる、『あなたがたは、おのおの腰につるぎを帯び、宿営の中を門から門へ行き巡って、おのおのその兄弟、その友、その隣人を殺せ』」。
He said to them, “Adonai says, the God of Israel [God prevails], ‘Every man put his sword on his thigh, and go back and forth from gate to gate throughout the camp, and every man kill his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbor.’”
28 レビの子たちはモーセの言葉どおりにしたので、その日、民のうち、おおよそ三千人が倒れた。
The sons of Levi [United with] did according to the word of Moses [Drawn out]: and there fell of the people that day about three thousand men.
29 そこで、モーセは言った、「あなたがたは、おのおのその子、その兄弟に逆らって、きょう、主に身をささげた。それで主は、きょう、あなたがたに祝福を与えられるであろう」。
Moses [Drawn out] said, “Consecrate yourselves today to Adonai, yes, every man against his son, and against his brother; that he may give you a blessing today.”
30 あくる日、モーセは民に言った、「あなたがたは大いなる罪を犯した。それで今、わたしは主のもとに上って行く。あなたがたの罪を償うことが、できるかも知れない」。
On the next day, Moses [Drawn out] said to the people, “You have sinned a great sin. Now I will go up to Adonai. Perhaps I shall make atonement for your sin.”
31 モーセは主のもとに帰って、そして言った、「ああ、この民は大いなる罪を犯し、自分のために金の神を造りました。
Moses [Drawn out] teshuvah ·completely returned· to Adonai, and said, “Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made themselves deities of gold.
32 今もしあなたが、彼らの罪をゆるされますならば。しかし、もしかなわなければ、どうぞあなたが書きしるされたふみから、わたしの名を消し去ってください」。
Yet now, if you will, forgive their sin— and if not, please blot me out of your book which you have written.”
33 主はモーセに言われた、「すべてわたしに罪を犯した者は、これをわたしのふみから消し去るであろう。
Adonai said to Moses [Drawn out], “Whoever has sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.
34 しかし、今あなたは行って、わたしがあなたに告げたところに民を導きなさい。見よ、わたしの使はあなたに先立って行くであろう。ただし刑罰の日に、わたしは彼らの罪を罰するであろう」。
Now go, lead the people to the place of which I have spoken to you. Behold, my angel shall go before you. Nevertheless in the day when I punish, I will punish them for their sin.”
35 そして主は民を撃たれた。彼らが子牛を造ったからである。それはアロンが造ったのである。
Adonai struck the people, because they made the calf, which Aaron [Light-bringer] made.
