出エジプト記 22

1 もし人が牛または羊を盗んで、これを殺し、あるいはこれを売るならば、彼は一頭の牛のために五頭の牛をもって、一頭の羊のために四頭の羊をもって償わなければならない。

If a man shall steal an ox, or a sheep, and kill it, or sell it, he shall pay five oxen for an ox, and four sheep for a sheep.

2 もし盗びとが穴をあけてはいるのを見て、これを撃って殺したときは、その人には血を流した罪はない。

If the thief is found breaking in, and be smitten so that he dies, there shall be no bloodguiltiness for him.

3 彼は必ず償わなければならない。もし彼に何もない時は、彼はその盗んだ物のために身を売られるであろう。 しかし日がのぼって後ならば、その人に血を流した罪がある。

If the sun be risen upon him, there shall be bloodguiltiness for him. A thief shall make restitution. If he has nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft.

4 もしその盗んだ物がなお生きて、彼の手もとにあれば、それは牛、ろば、羊のいずれにせよ、これを二倍にして償わなければならない。

If the theft is found in his hand alive, whether it be ox, or donkey, or sheep, he shall pay double.

5 もし人が畑またはぶどう畑のものを食わせ、その家畜を放って他人の畑のものを食わせた時は、自分の畑の最も良い物と、ぶどう畑の最も良い物をもって、これを償わなければならない。

If a man shall cause a field or vineyard to be eaten, and shall let his beast loose, and it feeds in another man's field, he shall make restitution of the best of his own field, and of the best of his own vineyard.

6 もし火が出て、いばらに移り、積みあげた麦束、または立穂、または畑を焼いたならば、その火を燃やした者は、必ずこれを償わなければならない。

If fire breaks out, and catches in thorns, so that the shocks of grain, or the standing grain, or the field are consumed, he who kindled the fire shall surely make restitution.

7 もし人が金銭または物品の保管を隣人に託し、それが隣人の家から盗まれた時、その盗びとが見つけられたならば、これを二倍にして償わせなければならない。

If a man shall deliver to his neighbor money or stuff to keep, and it be stolen out of the man's house, if the thief be found, he shall pay double.

8 もし盗びとが見つけられなければ、家の主人を神の前に連れてきて、彼が隣人の持ち物に手をかけたかどうかを、確かめなければならない。

If the thief is not found, then the master of the house shall come near to God, to see whether he has not put his hand to his neighbor's goods.

9 牛であれ、ろばであれ、羊であれ、衣服であれ、あるいはどんな失った物であれ、それについて言い争いが起り『これがそれです』と言う者があれば、その双方の言い分を、神の前に持ち出さなければならない。そして神が有罪と定められる者は、それを二倍にしてその相手に償わなければならない。

For every matter of trespass, whether it be for ox, for donkey, for sheep, for raiment, or for any manner of lost thing, of which a man says, This is it, the case of both parties shall come before God. He whom God shall condemn shall pay double to his neighbor.

10 もし人が、ろば、または牛、または羊、またはどんな家畜でも、それを隣人に預けて、それが死ぬか、傷つくか、あるいは奪い去られても、それを見た者がなければ、

If a man delivers to his neighbor a donkey, or an ox, or a sheep, or any beast, to keep, and it dies, or be hurt, or driven away, no man seeing it,

11 双方の間に、隣人の持ち物に手をかけなかったという誓いが、主の前になされなければならない。そうすれば、持ち主はこれを受け入れ、隣人は償うに及ばない。

the oath of Jehovah shall be between them both, whether he has not put his hand to his neighbor's goods. And the owner of it shall accept it, and he shall not make restitution.

12 けれども、それがまさしく自分の所から盗まれた時は、その持ち主に償わなければならない。

But if it is stolen from him, he shall make restitution to the owner of it.

13 もしそれが裂き殺された時は、それを証拠として持って来るならば、その裂き殺されたものは償うに及ばない。

If it is torn in pieces, let him bring it for evidence. He shall not make good that which was torn.

14 もし人が隣人から家畜を借りて、それが傷つき、または死ぬ場合、その持ち主がそれと共にいない時は、必ずこれを償わなければならない。

And if a man borrows anything of his neighbor, and it be hurt, or die, the owner of it not being with it, he shall surely make restitution.

15 もしその持ち主がそれと共におれば、それを償うに及ばない。もしそれが賃借りしたものならば、その借賃をそれに当てなければならない。

If the owner of it is with it, he shall not make it good. If it be a hired thing, it came for its hire.

16 もし人がまだ婚約しない処女を誘って、これと寝たならば、彼は必ずこれに花嫁料を払って、妻としなければならない。

And if a man entices a virgin who is not betrothed, and lies with her, he shall surely pay a dowry for her to be his wife.

17 もしその父がこれをその人に与えることをかたく拒むならば、彼は処女の花嫁料に当るほどの金を払わなければならない。

If her father utterly refuses to give her to him, he shall pay money according to the dowry of virgins.

18 魔法使の女は、これを生かしておいてはならない。

Thou shall not allow a sorceress to live.

19 すべて獣を犯す者は、必ず殺されなければならない。

Whoever lies with a beast shall surely be put to death.

20 主のほか、他の神々に犠牲をささげる者は、断ち滅ぼされなければならない。

He who sacrifices to any god, except to Jehovah only, shall be utterly destroyed.

21 あなたは寄留の他国人を苦しめてはならない。また、これをしえたげてはならない。あなたがたも、かつてエジプトの国で、寄留の他国人であったからである。

And thou shall not wrong a sojourner, neither shall thou oppress him, for ye were sojourners in the land of Egypt.

22 あなたがたはすべて寡婦、または孤児を悩ましてはならない。

Ye shall not afflict any widow, or fatherless child.

23 もしあなたが彼らを悩まして、彼らがわたしにむかって叫ぶならば、わたしは必ずその叫びを聞くであろう。

If thou afflict them at all, and they cry at all to me, I will surely hear their cry,

24 そしてわたしの怒りは燃えたち、つるぎをもってあなたがたを殺すであろう。あなたがたの妻は寡婦となり、あなたがたの子供たちは孤児となるであろう。

and my wrath shall grow hot, and I will kill you with the sword, and your wives shall be widows, and your sons fatherless.

25 あなたが、共におるわたしの民の貧しい者に金を貸す時は、これに対して金貸しのようになってはならない。これから利子を取ってはならない。

If thou lend money to any of my people with thee who is poor, thou shall not be to him as a creditor, neither shall ye lay upon him interest.

26 もし隣人の上着を質に取るならば、日の入るまでにそれを返さなければならない。

If thou at all take thy neighbor's garment to pledge, thou shall restore it to him before the sun goes down,

27 これは彼の身をおおう、ただ一つの物、彼の膚のための着物だからである。彼は何を着て寝ることができよう。彼がわたしにむかって叫ぶならば、わたしはこれに聞くであろう。わたしはあわれみ深いからである。

for that is his only covering. It is his garment for his skin. How shall he sleep? And it shall come to pass, when he cries to me, that I will hear, for I am gracious.

28 あなたは神をののしってはならない。また民の司をのろってはならない。

Thou shall not revile God, nor speak ill of a ruler of thy people.

29 あなたの豊かな穀物と、あふれる酒とをささげるに、ためらってはならない。あなたのういごを、わたしにささげなければならない。

Thou shall not delay to offer from thy harvest, and from the outflow of thy presses. The firstborn of thy sons thou shall give to me.

30 あなたはまた、あなたの牛と羊をも同様にしなければならない。七日の間その母と共に置いて、八日目にそれをわたしに、ささげなければならない。

Likewise thou shall do with thine oxen, and with thy sheep. Seven days it shall be with its dam. On the eighth day thou shall give it me.

31 あなたがたは、わたしに対して聖なる民とならなければならない。あなたがたは、野で裂き殺されたものの肉を食べてはならない。それは犬に投げ与えなければならない。

And ye shall be holy men to me. Therefore ye shall not eat any flesh that is torn of beasts in the field. Ye shall cast it to the dogs.
