エステル 記 3
1 これらの事の後、アハシュエロス王はアガグびとハンメダタの子ハマンを重んじ、これを昇進させて、自分と共にいるすべての大臣たちの上にその席を定めさせた。
After these things did king Ahasuerus promote Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, and advanced him, and set his seat above all the princes that were with him.
2 王の門の内にいる王の侍臣たちは皆ひざまずいてハマンに敬礼した。これは王が彼についてこうすることを命じたからである。しかしモルデカイはひざまずかず、また敬礼しなかった。
And all the king’s servants, that were in the king’s gate, bowed, and reverenced Haman: for the king had so commanded concerning him. But Mordecai bowed not, nor did him reverence.
3 そこで王の門にいる王の侍臣たちはモルデカイにむかって、「あなたはどうして王の命令にそむくのか」と言った。
Then the king’s servants, which were in the king’s gate, said unto Mordecai, Why transgressest thou the king’s commandment?
4 彼らは毎日モルデカイにこう言うけれども聞きいれなかったので、その事がゆるされるかどうかを見ようと、これをハマンに告げた。なぜならモルデカイはすでに自分のユダヤ人であることを彼らに語ったからである。
Now it came to pass, when they spake daily unto him, and he hearkened not unto them, that they told Haman, to see whether Mordecai’s matters would stand: for he had told them that he was a Jew.
5 ハマンはモルデカイのひざまずかず、また自分に敬礼しないのを見て怒りに満たされたが、
And when Haman saw that Mordecai bowed not, nor did him reverence, then was Haman full of wrath.
6 ただモルデカイだけを殺すことを潔しとしなかった。彼らがモルデカイの属する民をハマンに知らせたので、ハマンはアハシュエロスの国のうちにいるすべてのユダヤ人、すなわちモルデカイの属する民をことごとく滅ぼそうと図った。
And he thought scorn to lay hands on Mordecai alone; for they had shewed him the people of Mordecai: wherefore Haman sought to destroy all the Jews that were throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus, even the people of Mordecai.
7 アハシュエロス王の第十二年の正月すなわちニサンの月に、ハマンの前で、十二月すなわちアダルの月まで、一日一日のため、一月一月のために、プルすなわちくじを投げさせた。
In the first month, that is, the month Nisan, in the twelfth year of king Ahasuerus, they cast Pur, that is, the lot, before Haman from day to day, and from month to month, to the twelfth month, that is, the month Adar.
8 そしてハマンはアハシュエロス王に言った、「お国の各州にいる諸民のうちに、散らされて、別れ別れになっている一つの民がいます。その法律は他のすべての民のものと異なり、また彼らは王の法律を守りません。それゆえ彼らを許しておくことは王のためになりません。
And Haman said unto king Ahasuerus, There is a certain people scattered abroad and dispersed among the people in all the provinces of thy kingdom; and their laws are diverse from all people; neither keep they the king’s laws: therefore it is not for the king’s profit to suffer them.
9 もし王がよしとされるならば、彼らを滅ぼせと詔をお書きください。そうすればわたしは王の事をつかさどる者たちの手に銀一万タラントを量りわたして、王の金庫に入れさせましょう」。
If it please the king, let it be written that they may be destroyed: and I will pay ten thousand talents of silver to the hands of those that have the charge of the business, to bring it into the king’s treasuries.
10 そこで王は手から指輪をはずし、アガグびとハンメダタの子で、ユダヤ人の敵であるハマンにわたした。
And the king took his ring from his hand, and gave it unto Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, the Jews’ enemy.
11 そして王はハマンに言った、「その銀はあなたに与える。その民もまたあなたに与えるから、よいと思うようにしなさい」。
And the king said unto Haman, The silver is given to thee, the people also, to do with them as it seemeth good to thee.
12 そこで正月の十三日に王の書記官が召し集められ、王の総督、各州の知事および諸民のつかさたちにハマンが命じたことをことごとく書きしるした。すなわち各州に送るものにはその文字を用い、諸民に送るものにはその言語を用い、おのおのアハシュエロス王の名をもってそれを書き、王の指輪をもってそれに印を押した。
Then were the king’s scribes called on the thirteenth day of the first month, and there was written according to all that Haman had commanded unto the king’s lieutenants, and to the governors that were over every province, and to the rulers of every people of every province according to the writing thereof, and to every people after their language; in the name of king Ahasuerus was it written, and sealed with the king’s ring.
13 そして急使をもってその書を王の諸州に送り、十二月すなわちアダルの月の十三日に、一日のうちにすべてのユダヤ人を、若い者、老いた者、子供、女の別なく、ことごとく滅ぼし、殺し、絶やし、かつその貨財を奪い取れと命じた。
And the letters were sent by posts into all the king’s provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to cause to perish, all Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in one day, even upon the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, and to take the spoil of them for a prey.
14 この文書の写しを詔として各州に伝え、すべての民に公示して、その日のために備えさせようとした。
The copy of the writing for a commandment to be given in every province was published unto all people, that they should be ready against that day.
15 急使は王の命令により急いで出ていった。この詔は首都スサで発布された。時に王とハマンは座して酒を飲んでいたが、スサの都はあわて惑った。
The posts went out, being hastened by the king’s commandment, and the decree was given in Shushan the palace. And the king and Haman sat down to drink; but the city Shushan was perplexed.
