エペソ人への手紙 5

1 こうして、あなたがたは、神に愛されている子供として、神にならう者になりなさい。

BE ye therefore imitators of God, as beloved children;

2 また愛のうちを歩きなさい。キリストもあなたがたを愛して下さって、わたしたちのために、ご自身を、神へのかんばしいかおりのささげ物、また、いけにえとしてささげられたのである。

and walk in love as Christ also hath loved us, and given himself for us, an oblation and sacrifice to God, for an odour of a sweet smell.

3 また、不品行といろいろな汚れや貪欲などを、聖徒にふさわしく、あなたがたの間では、口にすることさえしてはならない。

But fornication and all impurity, or insatiable desire, let it not be mentioned among you, as becometh saints;

4 また、卑しい言葉と愚かな話やみだらな冗談を避けなさい。これらは、よろしくない事である。それよりは、むしろ感謝をささげなさい。

or obscenity, or foolish talk, or loose witticisms; things which become not a Christian, but rather thanksgiving.

5 あなたがたは、よく知っておかねばならない。すべて不品行な者、汚れたことをする者、貪欲な者、すなわち、偶像を礼拝する者は、キリストと神との国をつぐことができない。

For this ye know, that no whoremonger, or impure person, or avaricious, who is an idolater, hath an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

6 あなたがたは、だれにも不誠実な言葉でだまされてはいけない。これらのことから、神の怒りは不従順の子らに下るのである。

Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things, the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience.

7 だから、彼らの仲間になってはいけない。

Be not ye therefore partakers with them.

8 あなたがたは、以前はやみであったが、今は主にあって光となっている。光の子らしく歩きなさい

For ye were formerly darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light;

9 光はあらゆる善意と正義と真実との実を結ばせるものである

(for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth; )

10 主に喜ばれるものがなんであるかを、わきまえ知りなさい。

proving what is acceptable to the Lord.

11 実を結ばないやみのわざに加わらないで、むしろ、それを指摘してやりなさい。

And have no society with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather rebuke them.

12 彼らが隠れて行っていることは、口にするだけでも恥ずかしい事である。

For it is scandalous but to mention the things done of them in secret.

13 しかし、光にさらされる時、すべてのものは、明らかになる。

But all things which are rebukeable are made manifest by the light; for it is the light, by which every thing is made manifest.

14 明らかにされたものは皆、光となるのである。だから、こう書いてある、「眠っている者よ、起きなさい。死人のなかから、立ち上がりなさい。そうすれば、キリストがあなたを照すであろう」。

Wherefore he saith, “Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.”

15 そこで、あなたがたの歩きかたによく注意して、賢くない者のようにではなく、賢い者のように歩き、

Take heed, then, that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,

16 今の時を生かして用いなさい。今は悪い時代なのである。

redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

17 だから、愚かな者にならないで、主の御旨がなんであるかを悟りなさい。

Therefore be not unwise, but intelligent concerning what is the will of the Lord.

18 酒に酔ってはいけない。それは乱行のもとである。むしろ御霊に満たされて、

And be not drunk with wine, in which there is sottishness, but be filled with the Spirit;

19 詩とさんびと霊の歌とをもって語り合い、主にむかって心からさんびの歌をうたいなさい。

speaking one to another in psalms and hymns, and spiritual canticles, singing and making melody in the heart to the Lord;

20 そしてすべてのことにつき、いつも、わたしたちの主イエス・キリストの御名によって、父なる神に感謝し、

giving thanks always for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to God even the Father;

21 キリストに対する恐れの心をもって、互に仕え合うべきである。

being subject one to another in the fear of God.

22 妻たる者よ。主に仕えるように自分の夫に仕えなさい。

Wives, be in subjection to your own husbands, as to the Lord.

23 キリストが教会のかしらであって、自らは、からだなる教会の救主であられるように、夫は妻のかしらである。

For the husband is the head of the wife, as also Christ is the head of the church; and is himself the saviour of the body.

24 そして教会がキリストに仕えるように、妻もすべてのことにおいて、夫に仕えるべきである。

As then the church is subject to Christ, so also let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

25 夫たる者よ。キリストが教会を愛してそのためにご自身をささげられたように、妻を愛しなさい。

Husbands, love your own wives, as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

26 キリストがそうなさったのは、水で洗うことにより、言葉によって、教会をきよめて聖なるものとするためであり、

that he might sanctify it, purifying it in the laver of water by the word,

27 また、しみも、しわも、そのたぐいのものがいっさいなく、清くて傷のない栄光の姿の教会を、ご自分に迎えるためである。

that he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having blemish, nor wrinkle, nor any such things; but that it may be holy and unblameable.

28 それと同じく、夫も自分の妻を、自分のからだのように愛さねばならない。自分の妻を愛する者は、自分自身を愛するのである。

So ought husbands to love their own wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his own wife loveth himself.

29 自分自身を憎んだ者は、いまだかつて、ひとりもいない。かえって、キリストが教会になさったようにして、おのれを育て養うのが常である。

For no man ever hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:

30 わたしたちは、キリストのからだの肢体なのである。

for we are the members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.

31 「それゆえに、人は父母を離れてその妻と結ばれ、ふたりの者は一体となるべきである」。

For this reason shall a man forsake his father and mother, and shall cleave unto his wife, and the two shall be as one flesh.

32 この奥義は大きい。それは、キリストと教会とをさしている。

This mystery is great: but I am speaking with regard to Christ, and with regard to the church.

33 いずれにしても、あなたがたは、それぞれ、自分の妻を自分自身のように愛しなさい。妻もまた夫を敬いなさい。

Nevertheless let every one of you individually see that each love his own wife even as himself; but the wife that she stand in awe of the husband.
