申命記 25
1 人と人との間に争い事があって、さばきを求めてきたならば、さばきびとはこれをさばいて、正しい者を正しいとし、悪い者を悪いとしなければならない。
If there be a controversy between men, and they come unto judgment, that the judges may judge them; then they shall justify the righteous, and condemn the wicked.
2 その悪い者が、むち打つべき者であるならば、さばきびとは彼を伏させ、自分の前で、その罪にしたがい、数えて彼をむち打たせなければならない。
And it shall be, if the wicked man be worthy to be beaten, that the judge shall cause him to lie down, and to be beaten before his face, according to his fault, by a certain number.
3 彼をむち打つには四十を越えてはならない。もしそれを越えて、それよりも多くむちを打つときは、あなたの兄弟はあなたの目の前で、はずかしめられることになるであろう。
Forty stripes he may give him, and not exceed: lest, if he should exceed, and beat him above these with many stripes, then thy brother should seem vile unto thee.
4 脱穀をする牛にくつこを掛けてはならない。
Thou shalt not muzzle the ox when he treadeth out the corn.
5 兄弟が一緒に住んでいて、そのうちのひとりが死んで子のない時は、その死んだ者の妻は出て、他人にとついではならない。その夫の兄弟が彼女の所にはいり、めとって妻とし、夫の兄弟としての道を彼女につくさなければならない。
If brethren dwell together, and one of them die, and have no child, the wife of the dead shall not marry without unto a stranger: her husband's brother shall go in unto her, and take her to him to wife, and perform the duty of an husband's brother unto her.
6 そしてその女が初めに産む男の子に、死んだ兄弟の名を継がせ、その名をイスラエルのうちに絶やさないようにしなければならない。
And it shall be, that the firstborn which she beareth shall succeed in the name of his brother which is dead, that his name be not put out of Israel.
7 しかしその人が兄弟の妻をめとるのを好まないならば、その兄弟の妻は町の門へ行って、長老たちに言わなければならない、『わたしの夫の兄弟はその兄弟の名をイスラエルのうちに残すのを拒んで、夫の兄弟としての道をつくすことを好みません』。
And if the man like not to take his brother's wife, then let his brother's wife go up to the gate unto the elders, and say, My husband's brother refuseth to raise up unto his brother a name in Israel, he will not perform the duty of my husband's brother.
8 そのとき町の長老たちは彼を呼び寄せて、さとさなければならない。もし彼が固執して、『わたしは彼女をめとることを好みません』と言うならば、
Then the elders of his city shall call him, and speak unto him: and if he stand to it, and say, I like not to take her;
9 その兄弟の妻は長老たちの目の前で、彼のそばに行き、その足のくつを脱がせ、その顔につばきして、答えて言わなければならない。『兄弟の家をたてない者には、このようにすべきです』。
Then shall his brother's wife come unto him in the presence of the elders, and loose his shoe from off his foot, and spit in his face, and shall answer and say, So shall it be done unto that man that will not build up his brother's house.
10 そして彼の家の名は、くつを脱がされた者の家と、イスラエルのうちで呼ばれるであろう。
And his name shall be called in Israel, The house of him that hath his shoe loosed.
11 ふたりの人が互に争うときに、そのひとりの人の妻が、打つ者の手から夫を救おうとして近づき、手を伸べて、その人の隠し所をつかまえるならば、
When men strive together one with another, and the wife of the one draweth near for to deliver her husband out of the hand of him that smiteth him, and putteth forth her hand, and taketh him by the secrets:
12 その女の手を切り落さなければならない。あわれみをかけてはならない。
Then thou shalt cut off her hand, thine eye shall not pity her.
13 あなたの袋に大小二種の重り石を入れておいてはならない。
Thou shalt not have in thy bag divers weights, a great and a small.
14 あなたの家に大小二種のますをおいてはならない。
Thou shalt not have in thine house divers measures, a great and a small.
15 不足のない正しい重り石を持ち、また不足のない正しいますを持たなければならない。そうすればあなたの神、主が賜わる地で、あなたは長く命を保つことができるであろう。
But thou shalt have a perfect and just weight, a perfect and just measure shalt thou have: that thy days may be lengthened in the land which YHWH thy Elohim giveth thee.
16 すべてこのような不正をする者を、あなたの神、主が憎まれるからである。
For all that do such things, and all that do unrighteously, are an abomination unto YHWH thy Elohim.
17 あなたがエジプトから出てきた時、道でアマレクびとがあなたにしたことを記憶しなければならない。
Remember what Amalek did unto thee by the way, when ye were come forth out of Egypt;
18 すなわち彼らは道であなたに出会い、あなたがうみ疲れている時、うしろについてきていたすべての弱っている者を攻め撃った。このように彼らは神を恐れなかった。
How he met thee by the way, and smote the hindmost of thee, even all that were feeble behind thee, when thou wast faint and weary; and he feared not Elohim.
19 それで、あなたの神、主が嗣業として賜わる地で、あなたの神、主があなたの周囲のすべての敵を征服して、あなたに安息を与えられる時、あなたはアマレクの名を天の下から消し去らなければならない。この事を忘れてはならない。
Therefore it shall be, when YHWH thy Elohim hath given thee rest from all thine enemies round about, in the land which YHWH thy Elohim giveth thee for an inheritance to possess it, that thou shalt blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven; thou shalt not forget it.
