アモス書 8
1 主なる神は、このようにわたしに示された。見よ、ひとかごの夏のくだものがある。
Thus has the Lord GOD showed to me: and behold a basket of summer fruit.
2 主は言われた、「アモスよ、あなたは何を見るか」。わたしは「ひとかごの夏のくだもの」と答えた。すると主はわたしに言われた、「わが民イスラエルの終りがきた。わたしは再び彼らを見過しにしない。
And he said, Amos, what see you? And I said, A basket of summer fruit. Then said the LORD to me, The end is come on my people of Israel; I will not again pass by them any more.
3 その日には宮の歌は嘆きに変り、しかばねがおびただしく、人々は無言でこれを至る所に投げ捨てる」と主なる神は言われる。
And the songs of the temple shall be howlings in that day, says the Lord GOD: there shall be many dead bodies in every place; they shall cast them forth with silence.
4 あなたがた、貧しい者を踏みつけ、また国の乏しい者を滅ぼす者よ、これを聞け。
Hear this, O you that swallow up the needy, even to make the poor of the land to fail,
5 あなたがたは言う、「新月はいつ過ぎ去るだろう、そうしたら、われわれは穀物を売ろう。安息日はいつ過ぎ去るだろう、そうしたら、われわれは麦を売り出そう。われわれはエパを小さくし、シケルを大きくし、偽りのはかりをもって欺き、
Saying, When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell corn? and the sabbath, that we may set forth wheat, making the ephah small, and the shekel great, and falsifying the balances by deceit?
6 乏しい者を金で買い、貧しい者をくつ一足で買いとり、また、くず麦を売ろう」。
That we may buy the poor for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes; yes, and sell the refuse of the wheat?
7 主はヤコブの誇をさして誓われた、「わたしは必ず彼らのすべてのわざをいつまでも忘れない。
The LORD has sworn by the excellency of Jacob, Surely I will never forget any of their works.
8 これがために地は震わないであろうか。地に住む者はみな嘆かないであろうか。地はみなナイル川のようにわきあがり、エジプトのナイル川のようにみなぎって、また沈まないであろうか」。
Shall not the land tremble for this, and every one mourn that dwells therein? and it shall rise up wholly as a flood; and it shall be cast out and drowned, as by the flood of Egypt.
9 主なる神は言われる、「その日には、わたしは真昼に太陽を沈ませ、白昼に地を暗くし、
And it shall come to pass in that day, says the Lord GOD, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day:
10 あなたがたの祭を嘆きに変らせ、あなたがたの歌をことごとく悲しみの歌に変らせ、すべての人に荒布を腰にまとわせ、すべての人に髪をそり落させ、その日を、ひとり子を失った喪中のようにし、その終りを、苦い日のようにする」。
And I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will bring up sackcloth on all loins, and baldness on every head; and I will make it as the mourning of an only son, and the end thereof as a bitter day.
11 主なる神は言われる、「見よ、わたしがききんをこの国に送る日が来る、それはパンのききんではない、水にかわくのでもない、主の言葉を聞くことのききんである。
Behold, the days come, says the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:
12 彼らは海から海へさまよい歩き、主の言葉を求めて、こなたかなたへはせまわる、しかしこれを得ないであろう。
And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it.
13 その日には美しいおとめも、若い男もかわきのために気を失う。
In that day shall the fair virgins and young men faint for thirst.
14 かのサマリヤのアシマをさして誓い、『ダンよ、あなたの神は生きている』と言い、また『ベエルシバの道は生きている』と言う者どもは必ず倒れる。再び起きあがることはない」。
They that swear by the sin of Samaria, and say, Your god, O Dan, lives; and, The manner of Beersheba lives; even they shall fall, and never rise up again.
