サムエル記Ⅱ 3
1 サウルの家とダビデの家との間の戦争は久しく続き、ダビデはますます強くなり、サウルの家はますます弱くなった。
Now there was a long war between the house of Saul and the house of David. But David grew stronger and stronger, while the house of Saul grew weaker and weaker.
2 ヘブロンでダビデに男の子が生れた。彼の長子はエズレルの女アヒノアムの産んだアムノン、
Now sons were born to David in Hebron. And his firstborn was Amnon, of Ahinoam of Jezreel;
3 その次はカルメルびとナバルの妻であったアビガイルの産んだキレアブ、第三はゲシュルの王タルマイの娘マアカの子アブサロム、
and his second, Daluiah, of Abigail of Carmel; and the third, Absalom the son of Maacah the daughter of Talmai king of Geshur;
4 第四はハギテの子アドニヤ、第五はアビタルの子シパテヤ、
and the fourth, Adonijah the son of Haggith; and the fifth, Shephatiah, of Abital;
5 第六はダビデの妻エグラの産んだイテレアム。これらの子がヘブロンでダビデに生れた。
and the sixth, Ithream, of Eglah, David's wife. These were born to David in Hebron.
6 サウルの家とダビデの家とが戦いを続けている間に、アブネルはサウルの家で、強くなってきた。
And it came about while there was war between the house of Saul and the house of David, that Abner was gaining power in the house of Saul.
7 さてサウルには、ひとりのそばめがあった。その名をリヅパといい、アヤの娘であったが、イシボセテはアブネルに言った、「あなたはなぜわたしの父のそばめのところにはいったのですか」。
Now Saul had a secondary wife, named Rizpah, the daughter of Aiah. And Ishbaal son of Saul said to Abner, "Why have you gone in to my father's secondary wife?"
8 アブネルはイシボセテの言葉を聞き、非常に怒って言った、「わたしはユダの犬のかしらですか。わたしはきょう、あなたの父サウルの家と、その兄弟と、その友人とに忠誠をあらわして、あなたをダビデの手に渡すことをしなかったのに、あなたはきょう、女の事のあやまちを挙げてわたしを責められる。
Then Abner was very angry over the words of Ishbaal, and said, "Am I a dog's head that belongs to Judah? Until today, is it for myself that I have been doing all these things, showing loyalty to the house of Saul your father, to his brothers, and to his friends, and have not delivered you into the hand of David? And yet you charge me this day with a fault concerning this woman.
9 主がダビデに誓われたことを、わたしが彼のためになし遂げないならば、神がアブネルをいくえにも罰しられるように。
God do so to Abner, and more also, if, as the LORD has sworn to David, I do not do even so to him;
10 すなわち王国をサウルの家から移し、ダビデの位をダンからベエルシバに至るまで、イスラエルとユダの上に立たせられるであろう」。
to transfer the kingdom from the house of Saul, and to set up the throne of David over Israel and over Judah, from Dan even to Beersheba."
11 イシボセテはアブネルを恐れたので、ひと言も彼に答えることができなかった。
And Ishbaal could not answer Abner another word, because he feared him.
12 アブネルはヘブロンにいるダビデのもとに使者をつかわして言った、「国はだれのものですか。わたしと契約を結びなさい。わたしはあなたに力添えして、イスラエルをことごとくあなたのものにしましょう」。
Abner sent messengers to David on his behalf, saying, "Whose is the land?" and saying, "Make your alliance with me, and look, my hand shall be with you, to bring all Israel around to you."
13 ダビデは言った、「よろしい。わたしは、あなたと契約を結びましょう。ただし一つの事をあなたに求めます。あなたがきてわたしの顔を見るとき、まずサウルの娘ミカルを連れて来るのでなければ、わたしの顔を見ることはできません」。
He said, "Good. I will make a covenant with you, but one thing I require of you. That is, you shall not see my face unless you first bring Mikal, Saul's daughter, when you come to see my face."
14 それからダビデは使者をサウルの子イシボセテにつかわして言った、「ペリシテびとの陽の皮一百をもってめとったわたしの妻ミカルを引き渡しなさい」。
David sent messengers to Ishbaal, Saul's son, saying, "Give me my wife Mikal, whom I betrothed to myself for one hundred foreskins of the Philistines."
15 そこでイシボセテは人をやって彼女をその夫、ライシの子パルテエルから取ったので、
Ishbaal sent and took her from her husband Paltiel the son of Laish.
16 その夫は彼女と共に行き、泣きながら彼女のあとについて、バホリムまで行ったが、アブネルが彼に「帰って行け」と言ったので彼は帰った。
Her husband went with her, weeping as he went, and followed her to Bahurim. Then Abner said to him, "Go. Return." So he returned.
17 アブネルはイスラエルの長老たちと協議して言った、「あなたがたは以前からダビデをあなたがたの王とすることを求めていましたが、
Abner advised the elders of Israel, saying, "For some time you have wanted David to be king over you.
18 今それをしなさい。主がダビデについて、『わたしのしもべダビデの手によって、わたしの民イスラエルをペリシテびとの手、およびもろもろの敵の手から救い出すであろう』と言われたからです」。
Now then do it, for the LORD has spoken of David, saying, 'By the hand of my servant David, I will save my people Israel out of the hand of the Philistines, and out of the hand of all their enemies.'"
19 アブネルはまたベニヤミンにも語った。そしてアブネルは、イスラエルとベニヤミンの全家が良いと思うことをみな、ヘブロンでダビデに告げようとして出発した。
And Abner also spoke privately to the sons of Benjamin. And Abner also spoke privately to David in Hebron all that seemed good to Israel, and to the whole house of Benjamin.
20 アブネルが二十人を従えてヘブロンにいるダビデのもとに行った時、ダビデはアブネルと彼に従っている従者たちのために酒宴を設けた。
So Abner came to David to Hebron, and twenty men with him. David made Abner and the men who were with him a feast.
21 アブネルはダビデに言った、「わたしは立って行き、イスラエルをことごとく、わが主、王のもとに集めて、あなたと契約を結ばせ、あなたの望むものをことごとく治められるようにいたしましょう」。こうしてダビデはアブネルを送り帰らせたので彼は安全に去って行った。
Abner said to David, "I will arise and go, and will gather all Israel to my lord the king, that they may make a covenant with you, and that you may reign over all that your soul desires." David sent Abner away; and he left in peace.
22 ちょうどその時、ダビデの家来たちはヨアブと共に多くのぶんどり物を携えて略奪から帰ってきた。しかしアブネルはヘブロンのダビデのもとにはいなかった。ダビデが彼を帰らせて彼が安全に去ったからである。
Look, the servants of David and Joab were returning from a raid, and brought in a great spoil with them. But Abner was not with David in Hebron, for he had sent him away, and he left in peace.
23 ヨアブおよび彼と共にいた軍勢がみな帰ってきたとき、人々はヨアブに言った、「ネルの子アブネルが王のもとにきたが、王が彼を帰らせたので彼は安全に去った」。
When Joab and all the army who was with him had come, they told Joab, saying, "Abner the son of Ner came to David, and he has sent him away, and he left in peace."
24 そこでヨアブは王のもとに行って言った、「あなたは何をなさったのですか。アブネルがあなたの所にきたのに、あなたはどうして、彼を返し去らせられたのですか。
Then Joab came to the king, and said, "What have you done? Look, Abner came to you. Why is it that you have sent him away? Now he has gone.
25 ネルの子アブネルがあなたを欺くためにきたこと、そしてあなたの出入りを知り、またあなたのなさっていることを、ことごとく知るためにきたことをあなたはごぞんじです」。
You know the evil ways of Abner the son of Ner, that he came to deceive you, and to know your going out and your coming in, and to know all that you do."
26 ヨアブはダビデの所から出てきて、使者をつかわし、アブネルを追わせたので、彼らはシラの井戸から彼を連れて帰った。しかしダビデはその事を知らなかった。
When Joab had left David, he sent messengers after Abner, and they brought him back from the well of Sirah; but David did not know it.
27 アブネルがヘブロンに帰ってきたとき、ヨアブはひそかに語ろうといって彼を門のうちに連れて行き、その所で彼の腹を刺して死なせ、自分の兄弟アサヘルの血を報いた。
When Abner returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside into the midst of the gate to speak with him quietly, and struck him there in the abdomen, so that he died, for the blood of Asahel his brother.
28 その後ダビデはこの事を聞いて言った、「わたしとわたしの王国とは、ネルの子アブネルの血に関して、主の前に永久に罪はない。
Afterward, when David heard it, he said, "I and my kingdom are guiltless before the LORD now and forever of the blood of Abner the son of Ner.
29 どうぞ、その罪がヨアブの頭と、その父の全家に帰するように。またヨアブの家には流出を病む者、らい病人、つえにたよる者、つるぎに倒れる者、または食物の乏しい者が絶えないように」。
May it whirl over the head of Joab, and on all his father's house. Let there not fail from the house of Joab one who has an issue, or who is a leper, or who leans on a staff, or who falls by the sword, or who lacks bread."
30 こうしてヨアブとその弟アビシャイとはアブネルを殺したが、それは彼がギベオンの戦いで彼らの兄弟アサヘルを殺したためであった。
So Joab and Abishai his brother killed Abner, because he had killed their brother Asahel at Gibeon in the battle.
31 ダビデはヨアブおよび自分と共にいるすべての民に言った、「あなたがたは着物を裂き、荒布をまとい、アブネルの前に嘆きながら行きなさい」。そしてダビデ王はその棺のあとに従った。
David said to Joab, and to all the people who were with him, "Tear your clothes, and clothe yourselves with sackcloth, and mourn before Abner." And King David followed the coffin.
32 人々はアブネルをヘブロンに葬った。王はアブネルの墓で声をあげて泣き、民もみな泣いた。
They buried Abner in Hebron: and the king lifted up his voice, and wept at the grave of Abner; and all the people wept.
33 王はアブネルのために悲しみの歌を作って言った、「愚かな人の死ぬように、アブネルがどうして死んだのか。
The king lamented for Abner, and said, "Should Abner die as a fool dies?
34 あなたの手は縛られず、足には足かせもかけられないのに、悪人の前に倒れる人のように、あなたは倒れた」。そして民は皆、ふたたび彼のために泣いた。
Your hands were not bound in chains, your feet were not put into fetters. As a man falls before the ruthless, so you fell." All the people wept again over him.
35 民はみなきて、日のあるうちに、ダビデにパンを食べさせようとしたが、ダビデは誓って言った、「もしわたしが日の入る前に、パンでも、ほかのものでも味わうならば、神がわたしをいくえにも罰しられるように」。
Then all the people came to persuade David to eat bread while it was yet day; but David swore, saying, "God do so to me, and more also, if I taste bread, or anything else, until the sun goes down."
36 民はみなそれを見て満足した。すべて王のすることは民を満足させた。
All the people took notice of it, and it pleased them; as whatever the king did pleased all the people.
37 その日すべての民およびイスラエルは皆、ネルの子アブネルを殺したのは、王の意思によるものでないことを知った。
So all the people and all Israel understood that day that it was not of the king to kill Abner the son of Ner.
38 王はその家来たちに言った、「この日イスラエルで、ひとりの偉大なる将軍が倒れたのをあなたがたは知らないのか。
The king said to his servants, "Do you not realize that a leader and a great man has fallen this day in Israel?
39 わたしは油を注がれた王であるけれども、今日なお弱い。ゼルヤの子であるこれらの人々はわたしの手におえない。どうぞ主が悪を行う者に、その悪にしたがって報いられるように」。
I am this day weak, though anointed king. And these men, the sons of Zeruiah, are too brutal for me. May the LORD reward the evildoer according to his wickedness."
