サムエル記Ⅱ 24

1 主は再びイスラエルに向かって怒りを発し、ダビデを感動して彼らに逆らわせ、「行ってイスラエルとユダとを数えよ」と言われた。

And again the anger of YHWH was kindled against Israel, and he moved David against them to say, Go, number Israel and Judah.

2 そこで王はヨアブおよびヨアブと共にいる軍の長たちに言った、「イスラエルのすべての部族のうちを、ダンからベエルシバまで行き巡って民を数え、わたしに民の数を知らせなさい」。

For the king said to Joab the captain of the host, which was with him, Go now through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan even to Beer-sheba, and number ye the people, that I may know the number of the people.

3 ヨアブは王に言った、「どうぞあなたの神、主が、民を今よりも百倍に増してくださいますように。そして王、わが主がまのあたり、それを見られますように。しかし王、わが主は何ゆえにこの事を喜ばれるのですか」。

And Joab said unto the king, Now YHWH thy Elohim add unto the people, how many soever they be, an hundredfold, and that the eyes of my master the king may see it: but why doth my master the king delight in this thing?

4 しかし王の言葉がヨアブと軍の長たちとに勝ったので、ヨアブと軍の長たちとは王の前を退き、イスラエルの民を数えるために出て行った。

Notwithstanding the king's word prevailed against Joab, and against the captains of the host. And Joab and the captains of the host went out from the presence of the king, to number the people of Israel.

5 彼らはヨルダンを渡り、アロエルから、すなわち谷の中にある町から始めて、ガドに向かい、ヤゼルに進んだ。

And they passed over Jordan, and pitched in Aroer, on the right side of the city that lieth in the midst of the river of Gad, and toward Jazer:

6 それからギレアデに行き、またヘテびとの地にあるカデシに行き、それからダンに至り、ダンからシドンにまわり、

Then they came to Gilead, and to the land of Tahtim-hodshi; and they came to Dan-jaan, and about to Zidon,

7 またツロの要害に行き、ヒビびと、およびカナンびとのすべての町に行き、ユダのネゲブに出てベエルシバへ行った。

And came to the strong hold of Tyre, and to all the cities of the Hibites, and of the Canaanites: and they went out to the south of Judah, even to Beer-sheba.

8 こうして彼らは国をあまねく行き巡って、九か月と二十日を経てエルサレムにきた。

So when they had gone through all the land, they came to Jerusalem at the end of nine months and twenty days.

9 そしてヨアブは民の総数を王に告げた。すなわちイスラエルには、つるぎを抜く勇士たちが八十万あった。ただしユダの人々は五十万であった。

And Joab gave up the sum of the number of the people unto the king: and there were in Israel eight hundred thousand valiant men that drew the sword; and the men of Judah were five hundred thousand men.

10 しかしダビデは民を数えた後、心に責められた。そこでダビデは主に言った、「わたしはこれをおこなって大きな罪を犯しました。しかし主よ、今どうぞしもべの罪を取り去ってください。わたしはひじょうに愚かなことをいたしました」。

And David's heart smote him after that he had numbered the people. And David said unto YHWH, I have sinned greatly in that I have done: and now, I beseech thee, O YHWH, take away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly.

11 ダビデが朝起きたとき、主の言葉はダビデの先見者である預言者ガデに臨んで言った、

For when David was up in the morning, the word of YHWH came unto the prophet Gad, David's seer, saying,

12 「行ってダビデに言いなさい、『主はこう仰せられる、「わたしは三つのことを示す。あなたはその一つを選ぶがよい。わたしはそれをあなたに行うであろう」と』」。

Go and say unto David, Thus saith YHWH, I offer thee three things; choose thee one of them, that I may do it unto thee.

13 ガデはダビデのもとにきて、彼に言った、「あなたの国に三年のききんをこさせようか。あなたが敵に追われて三か月敵の前に逃げるようにしようか。それとも、あなたの国に三日の疫病をおくろうか。あなたは考えて、わたしがどの答を、わたしをつかわされた方になすべきかを決めなさい」。

So Gad came to David, and told him, and said unto him, Shall seven years of famine come unto thee in thy land? or wilt thou flee three months before thine enemies, while they pursue thee? or that there be three days' pestilence in thy land? now advise, and see what answer I shall return to him that sent me.

14 ダビデはガデに言った、「わたしはひじょうに悩んでいますが、主のあわれみは大きいゆえ、われわれを主の手に陥らせてください。わたしを人の手には陥らせないでください」。

And David said unto Gad, I am in a great strait: let us fall now into the hand of YHWH; for his mercies are great: and let me not fall into the hand of man.

15 そこで主は朝から定めの時まで疫病をイスラエルに下された。ダンからベエルシバまでに民の死んだ者は七万人あった。

So YHWH sent a pestilence upon Israel from the morning even to the time appointed: and there died of the people from Dan even to Beer-sheba seventy thousand men.

16 天の使が手をエルサレムに伸べてこれを滅ぼそうとしたが、主はこの害悪を悔い、民を滅ぼしている天の使に言われた、「もはや、じゅうぶんである。今あなたの手をとどめるがよい」。その時、主の使はエブスびとアラウナの打ち場のかたわらにいた。

And when the angel stretched out his hand upon Jerusalem to destroy it, YHWH repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed the people, It is enough: stay now thine hand. And the angel of YHWH was by the threshingplace of Araunah the Jebusite.

17 ダビデは民を撃っている天の使を見た時、主に言った、「わたしは罪を犯しました。わたしは悪を行いました。しかしこれらの羊たちは何をしたのですか。どうぞあなたの手をわたしとわたしの父の家に向けてください」。

And David spake unto YHWH when he saw the angel that smote the people, and said, Lo, I have sinned, and I have done wickedly: but these sheep, what have they done? let thine hand, I pray thee, be against me, and against my father's house.

18 その日ガデはダビデのところにきて彼に言った、「上って行ってエブスびとアラウナの打ち場で主に祭壇を建てなさい」。

And Gad came that day to David, and said unto him, Go up, rear an altar unto YHWH in the threshingfloor of Araunah the Jebusite.

19 ダビデはガデの言葉に従い、主の命じられたように上って行った。

And David, according to the saying of Gad, went up as YHWH commanded.

20 アラウナは見おろして、王とそのしもべたちが自分の方に進んでくるのを見たので、アラウナは出てきて王の前に地にひれ伏して拝した。

And Araunah looked, and saw the king and his servants coming on toward him: and Araunah went out, and bowed himself before the king on his face upon the ground.

21 そしてアラウナは言った、「どうして王わが主は、しもべの所にこられましたか」。ダビデは言った、「あなたから打ち場を買い取り、主に祭壇を築いて民に下る災をとどめるためです」。

And Araunah said, Wherefore is my master the king come to his servant? And David said, To buy the threshingfloor of thee, to build an altar unto YHWH, that the plague may be stayed from the people.

22 アラウナはダビデに言った、「どうぞ王、わが主のよいと思われる物を取ってささげてください。燔祭にする牛もあります。たきぎにする打穀機も牛のくびきもあります。

And Araunah said unto David, Let my master the king take and offer up what seemeth good unto him: behold, here be oxen for burnt sacrifice, and threshing instruments and other instruments of the oxen for wood.

23 王よ、アラウナはこれをことごとく王にささげます」。アラウナはまた王に、「あなたの神、主があなたを受けいれられますように」と言った。

All these things did Araunah, as a king, give unto the king. And Araunah said unto the king, YHWH thy Elohim accept thee.

24 しかし王はアラウナに言った、「いいえ、代価を支払ってそれをあなたから買い取ります。わたしは費用をかけずに燔祭をわたしの神、主にささげることはしません」。こうしてダビデは銀五十シケルで打ち場と牛とを買い取った。

And the king said unto Araunah, Nay; but I will surely buy it of thee at a price: neither will I offer burnt offerings unto YHWH my Elohim of that which doth cost me nothing. So David bought the threshingfloor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.

25 ダビデはその所で主に祭壇を築き、燔祭と酬恩祭をささげた。そこで主はその地のために祈を聞かれたので、災がイスラエルに下ることはとどまった。

And David built there an altar unto YHWH, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So YHWH was intreated for the land, and the plague was stayed from Israel.
