列王記Ⅱ 2
1 主がつむじ風をもってエリヤを天に上らせようとされた時、エリヤはエリシャと共にギルガルを出て行った。
And it came to pass, when YHWH would take up EliYah into heaven by a whirlwind, that EliYah went with Elisha from Gilgal.
2 エリヤはエリシャに言った、「どうぞ、ここにとどまってください。主はわたしをベテルにつかわされるのですから」。しかしエリシャは言った、「主は生きておられます。またあなたも生きておられます。わたしはあなたを離れません」。そして彼らはベテルへ下った。
And EliYah said unto Elisha, Tarry here, I pray thee; for YHWH hath sent me to Bethel. And Elisha said unto him, As YHWH liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they went down to Bethel.
3 ベテルにいる預言者のともがらが、エリシャのもとに出てきて彼に言った、「主がきょう、あなたの師事する主人をあなたから取られるのを知っていますか」。彼は言った、「はい、知っています。あなたがたは黙っていてください」。
And the sons of the prophets that were at Bethel came forth to Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that YHWH will take away thy master from thy head to day? And he said, Yea, I know it; hold ye your peace.
4 エリヤは彼に言った、「エリシャよ、どうぞ、ここにとどまってください。主はわたしをエリコにつかわされるのですから」。しかしエリシャは言った、「主は生きておられます。またあなたも生きておられます。わたしはあなたを離れません」。そして彼らはエリコへ行った。
And EliYah said unto him, Elisha, tarry here, I pray thee; for YHWH hath sent me to Jericho. And he said, As YHWH liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they came to Jericho.
5 エリコにいた預言者のともがらが、エリシャのもとにきて彼に言った、「主がきょう、あなたの師事する主人をあなたから取られるのを知っていますか」。彼は言った、「はい、知っています。あなたがたは黙っていてください」。
And the sons of the prophets that were at Jericho came to Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that YHWH will take away thy master from thy head to day? And he answered, Yea, I know it; hold ye your peace.
6 エリヤはまた彼に言った、「どうぞ、ここにとどまってください。主はわたしをヨルダンにつかわされるのですから」。しかし彼は言った、「主は生きておられます。またあなたも生きておられます。わたしはあなたを離れません」。そしてふたりは進んで行った。
And EliYah said unto him, Tarry, I pray thee, here; for YHWH hath sent me to Jordan. And he said, As YHWH liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And they two went on.
7 預言者のともがら五十人も行って、彼らにむかって、はるかに離れて立っていた。彼らふたりは、ヨルダンのほとりに立ったが、
And fifty men of the sons of the prophets went, and stood to view afar off: and they two stood by Jordan.
8 エリヤは外套を取り、それを巻いて水を打つと、水が左右に分れたので、ふたりはかわいた土の上を渡ることができた。
And EliYah took his mantle, and wrapped it together, and smote the waters, and they were divided hither and thither, so that they two went over on dry ground.
9 彼らが渡ったとき、エリヤはエリシャに言った、「わたしが取られて、あなたを離れる前に、あなたのしてほしい事を求めなさい」。エリシャは言った、「どうぞ、あなたの霊の二つの分をわたしに継がせてください」。
And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that EliYah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.
10 エリヤは言った、「あなたはむずかしい事を求める。あなたがもし、わたしが取られて、あなたを離れるのを見るならば、そのようになるであろう。しかし見ないならば、そのようにはならない」。
And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it shall not be so.
11 彼らが進みながら語っていた時、火の車と火の馬があらわれて、ふたりを隔てた。そしてエリヤはつむじ風に乗って天にのぼった。
And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and EliYah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.
12 エリシャはこれを見て「わが父よ、わが父よ、イスラエルの戦車よ、その騎兵よ」と叫んだが、再び彼を見なかった。そこでエリシャは自分の着物をつかんで、それを二つに裂き、
And Elisha saw it, and he cried, My father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof. And he saw him no more: and he took hold of his own clothes, and rent them in two pieces.
13 またエリヤの身から落ちた外套を取り上げ、帰ってきてヨルダンの岸に立った。
He took up also the mantle of EliYah that fell from him, and went back, and stood by the bank of Jordan;
14 そしてエリヤの身から落ちたその外套を取って水を打ち、「エリヤの神、主はどこにおられますか」と言い、彼が水を打つと、水は左右に分れたので、エリシャは渡った。
And he took the mantle of EliYah that fell from him, and smote the waters, and said, Where is YHWH Elohim of EliYah? and when he also had smitten the waters, they parted hither and thither: and Elisha went over.
15 エリコにいる預言者のともがらは彼の近づいて来るのを見て、「エリヤの霊がエリシャの上にとどまっている」と言った。そして彼らは来て彼を迎え、その前に地に伏して、
And when the sons of the prophets which were to view at Jericho saw him, they said, The spirit of EliYah doth rest on Elisha. And they came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him.
16 彼に言った、「しもべらの所に力の強い者が五十人います。どうぞ彼らをつかわして、あなたの主人を尋ねさせてください。主の霊が彼を引きあげて、彼を山か谷に投げたのかも知れません」。エリシャは「つかわしてはならない」と言ったが、
And they said unto him, Behold now, there be with thy servants fifty strong men; let them go, we pray thee, and seek thy master: lest peradventure the Spirit of YHWH hath taken him up, and cast him upon some mountain, or into some valley. And he said, Ye shall not send.
17 彼の恥じるまで、しいたので、彼は「つかわしなさい」と言った。それで彼らは五十人の者をつかわし、三日の間尋ねたが、彼を見いださなかった。
And when they urged him till he was ashamed, he said, Send. They sent therefore fifty men; and they sought three days, but found him not.
18 エリシャのなおエリコにとどまっている時、彼らが帰ってきたので、エリシャは彼らに言った、「わたしは、あなたがたに、行ってはならないと告げたではないか」。
And when they came again to him, (for he tarried at Jericho, ) he said unto them, Did I not say unto you, Go not?
19 町の人々はエリシャに言った、「見られるとおり、この町の場所は良いが水が悪いので、この地は流産を起すのです」。
And the men of the city said unto Elisha, Behold, I pray thee, the situation of this city is pleasant, as my master seeth: but the water is naught, and the ground barren.
20 エリシャは言った、「新しい皿に塩を盛って、わたしに持ってきなさい」。彼らは持ってきた。
And he said, Bring me a new cruse, and put salt therein. And they brought it to him.
21 エリシャは水の源へ出て行って、塩をそこに投げ入れて言った、「主はこう仰せられる、『わたしはこの水を良い水にした。もはやここには死も流産も起らないであろう』」。
And he went forth unto the spring of the waters, and cast the salt in there, and said, Thus saith YHWH, I have healed these waters; there shall not be from thence any more death or barren land.
22 こうしてその水はエリシャの言ったとおりに良い水になって今日に至っている。
So the waters were healed unto this day, according to the saying of Elisha which he spake.
23 彼はそこからベテルへ上ったが、上って行く途中、小さい子供らが町から出てきて彼をあざけり、彼にむかって「はげ頭よ、のぼれ。はげ頭よ、のぼれ」と言ったので、
And he went up from thence unto Bethel: and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head.
24 彼はふり返って彼らを見、主の名をもって彼らをのろった。すると林の中から二頭の雌ぐまが出てきて、その子供らのうち四十二人を裂いた。
And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of YHWH. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.
25 彼はそこからカルメル山へ行き、そこからサマリヤに帰った。
And he went from thence to mount Carmel, and from thence he returned to Samaria.
