列王記Ⅱ 18
1 イスラエルの王エラの子ホセアの第三年にユダの王アハズの子ヒゼキヤが王となった。
Now it came to pass in the third year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Hezekiah the son of Ahaz king of Judah began to reign.
2 彼は王となった時二十五歳で、エルサレムで二十九年の間、世を治めた。その母はゼカリヤの娘で、名をアビといった。
Twenty and five years old was he when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name also was Abi, the daughter of Zachariah.
3 ヒゼキヤはすべて先祖ダビデがおこなったように主の目にかなう事を行い、
And he did that which was right in the sight of Yhwh, according to all that David his father did.
4 高き所を除き、石柱をこわし、アシラ像を切り倒し、モーセの造った青銅のへびを打ち砕いた。イスラエルの人々はこの時までそのへびに向かって香をたいていたからである。人々はこれをネホシタンと呼んだ。
He removed the high places, and brake the images, and cut down the groves, and brake in pieces the brasen serpent that Moses had made: for unto those days the children of Israel did burn incense to it: and he called it Nehushtan.
5 ヒゼキヤはイスラエルの神、主に信頼した。そのために彼のあとにも彼の先にも、ユダのすべての王のうちに彼に及ぶ者はなかった。
He trusted in Yhwh God of Israel; so that after him was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor any that were before him.
6 すなわち彼は固く主に従って離れることなく、主がモーセに命じられた命令を守った。
For he clave to Yhwh, and departed not from following him, but kept his commandments, which Yhwh commanded Moses.
7 主が彼と共におられたので、すべて彼が出て戦うところで功をあらわした。彼はアッスリヤの王にそむいて、彼に仕えなかった。
And Yhwh was with him; and he prospered whithersoever he went forth: and he rebelled against the king of Assyria, and served him not.
8 彼はペリシテびとを撃ち敗って、ガザとその領域にまで達し、見張台から堅固な町にまで及んだ。
He smote the Philistines, even unto Gaza, and the borders thereof, from the tower of the watchmen to the fenced city.
9 ヒゼキヤ王の第四年すなわちイスラエルの王エラの子ホセアの第七年に、アッスリヤの王シャルマネセルはサマリヤに攻め上って、これを囲んだが、
And it came to pass in the fourth year of king Hezekiah, which was the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against Samaria, and besieged it.
10 三年の後ついにこれを取った。サマリヤが取られたのはヒゼキヤの第六年で、それはイスラエルの王ホセアの第九年であった。
And at the end of three years they took it: even in the sixth year of Hezekiah, that is the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel, Samaria was taken.
11 アッスリヤの王はイスラエルの人々をアッスリヤに捕えていって、ハラと、ゴザンの川ハボルのほとりと、メデアの町々に置いた。
And the king of Assyria did carry away Israel unto Assyria, and put them in Halah and in Habor by the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes:
12 これは彼らがその神、主の言葉にしたがわず、その契約を破り、主のしもべモーセの命じたすべての事に耳を傾けず、また行わなかったからである。
Because they obeyed not the voice of Yhwh their God, but transgressed his covenant, and all that Moses the servant of Yhwh commanded, and would not hear them, nor do them.
13 ヒゼキヤ王の第十四年にアッスリヤの王セナケリブが攻め上ってユダのすべての堅固な町々を取ったので、
Now in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah did Sennacherib king of Assyria come up against all the fenced cities of Judah, and took them.
14 ユダの王ヒゼキヤは人をラキシにつかわしてアッスリヤの王に言った、「わたしは罪を犯しました。どうぞ引き上げてください。わたしに課せられることはなんでもいたします」。アッスリヤの王は銀三百タラントと金三十タラントをユダの王ヒゼキヤに課した。
And Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria to Lachish, saying, I have offended; return from me: that which thou puttest on me will I bear. And the king of Assyria appointed unto Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.
15 ヒゼキヤは主の宮と王の家の倉とにある銀をことごとく彼に与えた。
And Hezekiah gave him all the silver that was found in the house of Yhwh, and in the treasures of the king’s house.
16 この時ユダの王ヒゼキヤはまた主の神殿の戸および柱から自分が着せた金をはぎ取って、アッスリヤの王に与えた。
At that time did Hezekiah cut off the gold from the doors of the temple of Yhwh, and from the pillars which Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid, and gave it to the king of Assyria.
17 アッスリヤの王はまたタルタン、ラブサリスおよびラブシャケを、ラキシから大軍を率いてエルサレムにいるヒゼキヤ王のもとにつかわした。彼らは上ってエルサレムに来た。彼らはエルサレムに着くと、布さらし場に行く大路に沿っている上の池の水道のかたわらへ行って、そこに立った。
And the king of Assyria sent Tartan and Rabsaris and Rab–shakeh from Lachish to king Hezekiah with a great host against Jerusalem. And they went up and came to Jerusalem. And when they were come up, they came and stood by the conduit of the upper pool, which is in the highway of the fuller’s field.
18 そして彼らが王を呼んだので、ヒルキヤの子である宮内卿エリアキム、書記官セブナ、およびアサフの子である史官ヨアが彼らのところに出てきた。
And when they had called to the king, there came out to them Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, which was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder.
19 ラブシャケは彼らに言った、「ヒゼキヤに言いなさい、『大王、アッスリヤの王はこう仰せられる。あなたが頼みとする者は何か。
And Rab–shakeh said unto them, Speak ye now to Hezekiah, Thus saith the great king, the king of Assyria, What confidence is this wherein thou trustest?
20 口先だけの言葉が戦争をする計略と力だと考えるのか。あなたは今だれにたよって、わたしにそむいたのか。
Thou sayest, (but they are but vain words, ) I have counsel and strength for the war. Now on whom dost thou trust, that thou rebellest against me?
21 今あなたは、あの折れかけている葦のつえ、エジプトを頼みとしているが、それは人がよりかかる時、その人の手を刺し通すであろう。エジプトの王パロはすべて寄り頼む者にそのようにする。
Now, behold, thou trustest upon the staff of this bruised reed, even upon Egypt, on which if a man lean, it will go into his hand, and pierce it: so is Pharaoh king of Egypt unto all that trust on him.
22 しかしあなたがもし「われわれは、われわれの神、主を頼む」とわたしに言うのであれば、その神はヒゼキヤがユダとエルサレムに告げて、「あなたがたはエルサレムで、この祭壇の前に礼拝しなければならない」と言って、その高き所と祭壇とを除いた者ではないか。
But if ye say unto me, We trust in Yhwh our God: is not that he, whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath taken away, and hath said to Judah and Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem?
23 さあ、わたしの主君アッスリヤの王とかけをせよ。もしあなたの方に乗る人があるならば、わたしは馬二千頭を与えよう。
Now therefore, I pray thee, give pledges to my lord the king of Assyria, and I will deliver thee two thousand horses, if thou be able on thy part to set riders upon them.
24 あなたはエジプトを頼み、戦車と騎兵を請い求めているが、わたしの主君の家来のうちの最も小さい一隊長でさえ、どうして撃退することができようか。
How then wilt thou turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master’s servants, and put thy trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?
25 わたしがこの所を滅ぼすために上ってきたのは、主の許しなしにしたことであろうか。主がわたしにこの地に攻め上ってこれを滅ぼせと言われたのだ』」。
Am I now come up without Yhwh against this place to destroy it? Yhwh said to me, Go up against this land, and destroy it.
26 その時ヒルキヤの子エリアキムおよびセブナとヨアはラブシャケに言った、「どうぞ、アラム語でしもべどもに話してください。わたしたちは、それがわかるからです。城壁の上にいる民の聞いているところで、わたしたちにユダヤの言葉で話さないでください」。
Then said Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, and Shebna, and Joah, unto Rab–shakeh, Speak, I pray thee, to thy servants in the Syrian language; for we understand it: and talk not with us in the Jews’ language in the ears of the people that are on the wall.
27 しかしラブシャケは彼らに言った、「わたしの主君は、あなたの主君とあなたにだけでなく、城壁の上に座している人々にも、この言葉を告げるためにわたしをつかわしたのではないか。彼らも、あなたがたと共に自分の糞尿を食い飲みするに至るであろう」。
But Rab–shakeh said unto them, Hath my master sent me to thy master, and to thee, to speak these words? hath he not sent me to the men which sit on the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own piss with you?
28 そしてラブシャケは立ちあがり、ユダヤの言葉で大声に呼ばわって言った。「大王、アッスリヤの王の言葉を聞け。
Then Rab–shakeh stood and cried with a loud voice in the Jews’ language, and spake, saying, Hear the word of the great king, the king of Assyria:
29 王はこう仰せられる、『あなたがたはヒゼキヤに欺かれてはならない。彼はあなたがたをわたしの手から救いだすことはできない。
Thus saith the king, Let not Hezekiah deceive you: for he shall not be able to deliver you out of his hand:
30 ヒゼキヤが「主は必ずわれわれを救い出される。この町はアッスリヤ王の手に陥ることはない」と言っても、あなたがたは主を頼みとしてはならない』。
Neither let Hezekiah make you trust in Yhwh, saying, Yhwh will surely deliver us, and this city shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.
31 あなたがたはヒゼキヤの言葉を聞いてはならない。アッスリヤの王はこう仰せられる、『あなたがたはわたしと和解して、わたしに降服せよ。そうすればあなたがたはおのおの自分のぶどうの実を食べ、おのおの自分のいちじくの実を食べ、おのおの自分の井戸の水を飲むことができるであろう。
Hearken not to Hezekiah: for thus saith the king of Assyria, Make an agreement with me by a present, and come out to me, and then eat ye every man of his own vine, and every one of his fig tree, and drink ye every one the waters of his cistern:
32 やがてわたしが来て、あなたがたを一つの国へ連れて行く。それはあなたがたの国のように穀物とぶどう酒のある地、パンとぶどう畑のある地、オリブの木と蜜のある地である。あなたがたは生きながらえることができ、死ぬことはない。ヒゼキヤが「主はわれわれを救われる」と言って、あなたがたを惑わしても彼に聞いてはならない。
Until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of grain and wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of oil olive and of honey, that ye may live, and not die: and hearken not unto Hezekiah, when he persuadeth you, saying, Yhwh will deliver us.
33 諸国民の神々のうち、どの神がその国をアッスリヤの王の手から救ったか。
Hath any of the gods of the nations delivered at all his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?
34 ハマテやアルパデの神々はどこにいるのか。セパルワイム、ヘナおよびイワの神々はどこにいるのか。彼らはサマリヤをわたしの手から救い出したか。
Where are the gods of Hamath, and of Arpad? where are the gods of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivah? have they delivered Samaria out of mine hand?
35 国々のすべての神々のうち、その国をわたしの手から救い出した者があったか。主がどうしてエルサレムをわたしの手から救い出すことができよう』」。
Who are they among all the gods of the countries, that have delivered their country out of mine hand, that Yhwh should deliver Jerusalem out of mine hand?
36 しかし民は黙して、ひと言も彼に答えなかった。王が命じて「彼に答えてはならない」と言っておいたからである。
But the people held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the king’s commandment was, saying, Answer him not.
37 こうしてヒルキヤの子である宮内卿エリアキム、書記官セブナ、およびアサフの子である史官ヨアは衣を裂き、ヒゼキヤのもとに来て、ラブシャケの言葉を彼に告げた。
Then came Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, which was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder, to Hezekiah with their clothes rent, and told him the words of Rab–shakeh.
