歴代誌Ⅱ 26
1 そこでユダの民は皆ウジヤをとって王となし、その父アマジヤに代らせた。時に十六歳であった。
Then all the people of Judah took Uzziah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king instead of his father Amaziah.
2 彼はエラテを建てて、これをふたたびユダのものにした。これはかの王がその先祖たちと共に眠った後であった。
He built Eloth, and restored it to Judah, after the king slept with his fathers.
3 ウジヤは王となった時十六歳で、エルサレムで五十二年の間世を治めた。その母はエルサレムの者で名をエコリヤといった。
Sixteen years old was Uzziah when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty and two years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name also was Jecoliah of Jerusalem.
4 ウジヤは父アマジヤがしたように、すべて主の良しと見られることを行った。
And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father Amaziah did.
5 彼は神を恐れることを自分に教えたゼカリヤの世にある日の間、神を求めることに努めた。彼が主を求めた間、神は彼を栄えさせられた。
And he sought God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God: and as long as he sought the LORD, God made him to prosper.
6 彼は出てペリシテびとと戦い、ガテの城壁、ヤブネの城壁およびアシドドの城壁をくずし、アシドドの地とペリシテびとのなかに町を建てた。
And he went forth and warred against the Philistines, and broke down the wall of Gath, and the wall of Jabneh, and the wall of Ashdod, and built cities about Ashdod, and among the Philistines.
7 神は彼を助けてペリシテびとと、グルバアルに住むアラビヤびとおよびメウニびとを攻め撃たせられた。
And God helped him against the Philistines, and against the Arabians that dwelt in Gurbaal, and the Mehunims.
8 アンモンびとはウジヤにみつぎを納めた。ウジヤは非常に強くなったので、その名はエジプトの入口までも広まった。
And the Ammonites gave gifts to Uzziah: and his name spread abroad even to the entrance of Egypt; for he strengthened himself exceedingly.
9 ウジヤはまたエルサレムの隅の門、谷の門および城壁の曲りかどにやぐらを建てて、これを堅固にした。
Moreover Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem at the corner gate, and at the valley gate, and at the turning of the wall, and fortified them.
10 彼はまた荒野にやぐらを建て、また多くの水ためを掘った。彼は平野にも平地にもたくさんの家畜をもっていたからである。彼はまた農事を好んだので、山々および肥えた畑には農夫とぶどうをつくる者をもっていた。
Also he built towers in the desert, and dug many wells: for he had many cattle, both in the low country, and in the plains: farmers also, and vinedressers in the mountains, and in Carmel: for he loved the soil.
11 ウジヤはまたよく戦う一軍団を持っていた。彼らは書記エイエルと、つかさマアセヤによって調べた数に従って組々に分れ、皆王の軍長のひとりハナニヤの指揮下にあった。
Moreover Uzziah had an army of fighting men, that went out to war by bands, according to the number of their reckoning by the hand of Jeiel the scribe and Maaseiah the ruler, under the hand of Hananiah, one of the king’s captains.
12 その氏族の長である大勇士の数は合わせて二千六百人であった。
The whole number of the heads of the father’s houses of the mighty men of valour were two thousand and six hundred.
13 その指揮下にある軍勢は三十万七千五百人で、皆大いなる力をもって戦い、王を助けて敵に当った。
And under their hand was an army, three hundred thousand and seven thousand and five hundred, that made war with mighty power, to help the king against the enemy.
14 ウジヤはその全軍のために盾、やり、かぶと、よろい、弓および石投げの石を備えた。
And Uzziah prepared for them throughout all the army shields, and spears, and helmets, and coats of mail, and bows, and slings to cast stones.
15 彼はまたエルサレムで技術者の考案した機械を造って、これをやぐらおよび城壁のすみずみにすえ、これをもって矢および大石を射出した。こうして彼の名声は遠くまで広まった。彼が驚くほど神の助けを得て強くなったからである。
And he made in Jerusalem engines, invented by skilful men, to be on the towers and upon the bulwarks, to shoot arrows and great stones. And his name spread far abroad; for he was marvellously helped, till he was strong.
16 ところが彼は強くなるに及んで、その心に高ぶり、ついに自分を滅ぼすに至った。すなわち彼はその神、主にむかって罪を犯し、主の宮にはいって香の祭壇の上に香をたこうとした。
But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction: for he transgressed against the LORD his God, and went into the temple of the LORD to burn incense upon the altar of incense.
17 その時、祭司アザリヤは主の祭司である勇士八十人を率いて、彼のあとに従ってはいり、
And Azariah the priest went in after him, and with him eighty priests of the LORD, that were valiant men:
18 ウジヤ王を引き止めて言った、「ウジヤよ、主に香をたくことはあなたのなすべきことではなく、ただアロンの子孫で、香をたくために清められた祭司たちのすることです。すぐ聖所から出なさい。あなたは罪を犯しました。あなたは主なる神から栄えを得ることはできません」。
And they withstood Uzziah the king, and said to him, It appertaineth not to thee, Uzziah, to burn incense to the LORD, but to the priests the sons of Aaron, that are consecrated to burn incense: go out of the sanctuary; for thou hast trespassed; neither shall it be for thy honour from the LORD God.
19 するとウジヤは怒りを発し、香炉を手にとって香をたこうとしたが、彼が祭司に向かって怒りを発している間に、らい病がその額に起った。時に彼は主の宮で祭司たちの前、香の祭壇のかたわらにいた。
Then Uzziah was angry, and had a censer in his hand to burn incense: and while he was angry with the priests, the leprosy even rose up in his forehead before the priests in the house of the LORD, from beside the incense altar.
20 祭司の長アザリヤおよびすべての祭司たちが彼を見ると、彼の額にらい病が生じていたので、急いで彼をそこから追い出した。彼自身もまた主に撃たれたことを知って、急いで出て行った。
And Azariah the chief priest, and all the priests, looked upon him, and, behold, he was leprous in his forehead, and they thrust him out from there; yea, himself hastened also to go out, because the LORD had smitten him.
21 ウジヤ王は、死ぬ日までらい病人であった。彼はらい病人であったので、離れ殿に住んだ。主の宮から断たれたからである。その子ヨタムが王の家をつかさどり、国の民を治めた。
And Uzziah the king was a leper to the day of his death, and dwelt in a separate house, being a leper; for he was cut off from the house of the LORD: and Jotham his son was over the king’s house, judging the people of the land.
22 ウジヤのその他の始終の行為は、アモツの子預言者イザヤがこれを書きしるした。
Now the rest of the acts of Uzziah, first and last, were written by Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz.
23 ウジヤは先祖たちと共に眠ったので、人々は「彼はらい病人である」と言って、王たちの墓に連なる墓地に、その先祖たちと共に葬った。その子ヨタムが彼に代って王となった。
So Uzziah slept with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers in the field of the burial which belonged to the kings; for they said, He is a leper: and Jotham his son reigned in his stead.
