サムエル記Ⅰ 26

1 そのころジフびとがギベアにおるサウルのもとにきて言った、「ダビデは荒野の前にあるハキラの山に隠れているではありませんか」。

And the Ziphites came unto Saul to Gibeah, saying, Doth not David hide himself in the hill of Hachilah, which is before Jeshimon?

2 サウルは立って、ジフの荒野でダビデを捜すために、イスラエルのうちから選んだ三千人をひき連れて、ジフの荒野に下った。

Then Saul arose, and went down to the wilderness of Ziph, having three thousand chosen men of Israel with him, to seek David in the wilderness of Ziph.

3 サウルは荒野の前の道のかたわらにあるハキラの山に陣を取った。ダビデは荒野にとどまっていたが、サウルが自分のあとを追って荒野にきたのを見て、

And Saul pitched in the hill of Hachilah, which is before Jeshimon, by the way. But David abode in the wilderness, and he saw that Saul came after him into the wilderness.

4 斥候を出し、サウルが確かにきたのを知った。

David therefore sent out spies, and understood that Saul was come in very deed.

5 そしてダビデは立って、サウルが陣を取っている所へ行って、サウルとその軍の長、ネルの子アブネルの寝ている場所を見た。サウルは陣所のうちに寝ていて、民はその周囲に宿営していた。

And David arose, and came to the place where Saul had pitched: and David beheld the place where Saul lay, and Abner the son of Ner, the captain of his host: and Saul lay in the trench, and the people pitched round about him.

6 ダビデは、ヘテびとアヒメレク、およびゼルヤの子で、ヨアブの兄弟であるアビシャイに言った、「だれがわたしと共にサウルの陣に下って行くか」。アビシャイは言った、「わたしが一緒に下って行きます」。

Then answered David and said to Ahimelech the Hittite, and to Abishai the son of Zeruiah, brother to Joab, saying, Who will go down with me to Saul to the camp? And Abishai said, I will go down with thee.

7 こうしてダビデとアビシャイとが夜、民のところへ行ってみると、サウルは陣所のうちに身を横たえて寝ており、そのやりは枕もとに地に突きさしてあった。そしてアブネルと民らとはその周囲に寝ていた。

So David and Abishai came to the people by night: and, behold, Saul lay sleeping within the trench, and his spear stuck in the ground at his bolster: but Abner and the people lay round about him.

8 アビシャイはダビデに言った、「神はきょう敵をあなたの手に渡されました。どうぞわたしに、彼のやりをもってひと突きで彼を地に刺しとおさせてください。ふたたび突くには及びません」。

Then said Abishai to David, Elohim hath delivered thine enemy into thine hand this day: now therefore let me smite him, I pray thee, with the spear even to the earth at once, and I will not smite him the second time.

9 しかしダビデはアビシャイに言った、「彼を殺してはならない。主が油を注がれた者に向かって、手をのべ、罪を得ない者があろうか」。

And David said to Abishai, Destroy him not: for who can stretch forth his hand against YHWH 's anointed, and be guiltless?

10 ダビデはまた言った、「主は生きておられる。主が彼を撃たれるであろう。あるいは彼の死ぬ日が来るであろう。あるいは戦いに下って行って滅びるであろう。

David said furthermore, As YHWH liveth, YHWH shall smite him; or his day shall come to die; or he shall descend into battle, and perish.

11 主が油を注がれた者に向かって、わたしが手をのべることを主は禁じられる。しかし今、そのまくらもとにあるやりと水のびんを取りなさい。そしてわれわれは去ろう」。

YHWH forbid that I should stretch forth mine hand against YHWH 's anointed: but, I pray thee, take thou now the spear that is at his bolster, and the cruse of water, and let us go.

12 こうしてダビデはサウルの枕もとから、やりと水のびんを取って彼らは去ったが、だれもそれを見ず、だれも知らず、また、だれも目をさまさず、みな眠っていた。主が彼らを深く眠らされたからである。

So David took the spear and the cruse of water from Saul's bolster; and they got them away, and no man saw it, nor knew it, neither awaked: for they were all asleep; because a deep sleep from YHWH was fallen upon them.

13 ダビデは向こう側に渡って行って、遠く離れて山の頂に立った。彼らの間の隔たりは大きかった。

Then David went over to the other side, and stood on the top of an hill afar off; a great space being between them:

14 ダビデは民とネルの子アブネルに呼ばわって言った、「アブネルよ、あなたは答えないのか」。アブネルは答えて言った、「王を呼んでいるあなたはだれか」。

And David cried to the people, and to Abner the son of Ner, saying, Answerest thou not, Abner? Then Abner answered and said, Who art thou that criest to the king?

15 ダビデはアブネルに言った、「あなたは男ではないか。イスラエルのうちに、あなたに及ぶ人があろうか。それであるのに、どうしてあなたは主君である王を守らなかったのか。民のひとりが、あなたの主君である王を殺そうとして、はいりこんだではないか。

And David said to Abner, Art not thou a valiant man? and who is like to thee in Israel? wherefore then hast thou not kept thymaster the king? for there came one of the people in to destroy the king thymaster.

16 あなたがしたこの事は良くない。主は生きておられる。あなたがたは、まさに死に値する。主が油をそそがれた、あなたの主君を守らなかったからだ。いま王のやりがどこにあるか。その枕もとにあった水のびんがどこにあるかを見なさい」。

This thing is not good that thou hast done. As YHWH liveth, ye are worthy to die, because ye have not kept your master, YHWH 's anointed. And now see where the king's spear is, and the cruse of water that was at his bolster.

17 サウルはダビデの声を聞きわけて言った、「わが子ダビデよ、これはあなたの声か」。ダビデは言った、「王、わが君よ、わたしの声です」。

And Saul knew David's voice, and said, Is this thy voice, my son David? And David said, It is my voice, mymaster, O king.

18 ダビデはまた言った、「わが君はどうしてしもべのあとを追われるのですか。わたしが何をしたのですか。わたしの手になんのわるいことがあるのですか。

And he said, Wherefore doth mymaster thus pursue after his servant? for what have I done? or what evil is in mine hand?

19 王、わが君よ、どうぞ、今しもべの言葉を聞いてください。もし主があなたを動かして、わたしの敵とされたのであれば、どうぞ主が供え物を受けて和らいでくださるように。もし、それが人であるならば、どうぞその人々が主の前にのろいを受けるように。彼らが『おまえは行って他の神々に仕えなさい』と言って、きょう、わたしを追い出し、主の嗣業にあずかることができないようにしたからです。

Now therefore, I pray thee, let mymaster the king hear the words of his servant. If YHWH have stirred thee up against me, let him accept an offering: but if they be the children of men, cursed be they before YHWH; for they have driven me out this day from abiding in the inheritance of YHWH, saying, Go, serve otherelohim.

20 それゆえ今、主の前を離れて、わたしの血が地に落ちることのないようにしてください。イスラエルの王は、人が山で、しゃこを追うように、わたしの命を取ろうとして出てこられたのです」。

Now therefore, let not my blood fall to the earth before the face of YHWH: for the king of Israel is come out to seek a flea, as when one doth hunt a partridge in the mountains.

21 その時、サウルは言った、「わたしは罪を犯した。わが子ダビデよ、帰ってきてください。きょう、わたしの命があなたの目に尊く見られたゆえ、わたしは、もはやあなたに害を加えないであろう。わたしは愚かなことをして、非常なまちがいをした」。

Then said Saul, I have sinned: return, my son David: for I will no more do thee harm, because my soul was precious in thine eyes this day: behold, I have played the fool, and have erred exceedingly.

22 ダビデは答えた、「王のやりは、ここにあります。ひとりの若者に渡ってこさせ、これを持ちかえらせてください。

And David answered and said, Behold the king's spear! and let one of the young men come over and fetch it.

23 主は人おのおのにその義と真実とに従って報いられます。主がきょう、あなたをわたしの手に渡されたのに、わたしは主が油を注がれた者に向かって、手をのべることをしなかったのです。

YHWH render to every man his righteousness and his faithfulness: for YHWH delivered thee into my hand to day, but I would not stretch forth mine hand against YHWH 's anointed.

24 きょう、わたしがあなたの命を重んじたように、どうぞ主がわたしの命を重んじて、もろもろの苦難から救い出してくださるように」。

And, behold, as thy life was much set by this day in mine eyes, so let my life be much set by in the eyes of YHWH, and let him deliver me out of all tribulation.

25 サウルはダビデに言った、「わが子ダビデよ、あなたはほむべきかな。あなたは多くの事をおこなって、それをなし遂げるであろう」。こうしてダビデはその道を行き、サウルは自分の所へ帰った。

Then Saul said to David, Blessed be thou, my son David: thou shalt both do great things, and also shalt still prevail. So David went on his way, and Saul returned to his place.
