サムエル記Ⅰ 12
1 サムエルはイスラエルの人々に言った、「見よ、わたしは、あなたがたの言葉に聞き従って、あなたがたの上に王を立てた。
And Samuel said to all Israel, Behold, I have hearkened to your voice in all that ye said to me, and have made a king over you.
2 見よ王は今、あなたがたの前に歩む。わたしは年老いて髪は白くなった。わたしの子らもあなたがたと共にいる。わたしは若い時から、きょうまで、あなたがたの前に歩んだ。
And now behold, the king walks before you; and I am old and grey-headed; and behold, my sons are with you; and I have walked before you from my youth up to this day.
3 わたしはここにいる。主の前と、その油そそがれた者の前に、わたしを訴えよ。わたしが、だれの牛を取ったか。だれのろばを取ったか。だれを欺いたか。だれをしえたげたか。だれの手から、まいないを取って、自分の目をくらましたか。もしそのようなことがあれば、わたしはそれを、あなたがたに償おう」。
Here I am: testify against me before Jehovah, and before his anointed. Whose ox have I taken? or whose ass have I taken? or whom have I defrauded? whom have I injured? or of whose hand have I received any ransom and blinded mine eyes therewith? and I will restore it to you.
4 彼らは言った、「あなたは、われわれを欺いたことも、しえたげたこともありません。また人の手から何も取ったことはありません」。
And they said, Thou hast not defrauded us, and thou hast not injured us, neither hast thou taken aught of any man's hand.
5 サムエルは彼らに言った、「あなたがたが、わたしの手のうちに、なんの不正をも見いださないことを、主はあなたがたにあかしされる。その油そそがれた者も、きょうそれをあかしする」。彼らは言った、「あかしされます」。
And he said to them, Jehovah is witness against you, and his anointed is witness this day, that ye have not found aught in my hand! And [the people] said, [He is] witness!
6 サムエルは民に言った、「モーセとアロンを立てて、あなたがたの先祖をエジプトの地から導き出された主が証人です。
And Samuel said to the people, [It is] Jehovah who appointed Moses and Aaron, and who brought your fathers up out of the land of Egypt.
7 それゆえ、あなたがたは今、立ちなさい。わたしは主が、あなたがたとあなたがたの先祖のために行われたすべての救のわざについて、主の前に、あなたがたと論じよう。
And now stand still, that I may plead with you before Jehovah of all the righteous acts of Jehovah which he did to you and to your fathers.
8 ヤコブがエジプトに行って、エジプトびとが、彼らを、しえたげた時、あなたがたの先祖は主に呼ばわったので、主はモーセとアロンをつかわされた。そこで彼らは、あなたがたの先祖をエジプトから導き出して、この所に住まわせた。
When Jacob had come into Egypt, and your fathers cried to Jehovah, then Jehovah sent Moses and Aaron, and they brought your fathers forth out of Egypt, and made them dwell in this place.
9 しかし、彼らがその神、主を忘れたので、主は彼らをハゾルの王ヤビンの軍の長シセラの手に渡し、またペリシテびとの手とモアブの王の手にわたされた。そこで彼らがイスラエルを攻めたので、
And they forgot Jehovah their God, and he sold them into the hand of Sisera, captain of the host of Hazor, and into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of Moab, and they fought against them.
10 民は主に呼ばわって言った、『われわれは主を捨て、バアルとアシタロテに仕えて、罪を犯しました。今、われわれを敵の手から救い出してください。われわれはあなたに仕えます』。
And they cried to Jehovah and said, We have sinned, because we have forsaken Jehovah, and have served the Baals and the Ashtoreths; and now deliver us out of the hand of our enemies, and we will serve thee.
11 主はエルバアルとバラクとエフタとサムエルをつかわして、あなたがたを周囲の敵の手から救い出されたので、あなたがたは安らかに住むことができた。
And Jehovah sent Jerubbaal and Bedan and Jephthah and Samuel, and delivered you out of the hand of your enemies round about, so that ye dwelt in safety.
12 ところが、アンモンびとの王ナハシが攻めてくるのを見たとき、あなたがたの神、主があなたがたの王であるのに、あなたがたはわたしに、『いいえ、われわれを治める王がなければならない』と言った。
But when ye saw that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon came against you, ye said to me, Nay, but a king shall reign over us; when Jehovah your God was your king.
13 それゆえ、今あなたがたの選んだ王、あなたがたが求めた王を見なさい。主はあなたがたの上に王を立てられた。
And now behold, the king whom ye have chosen, whom ye have asked for! and behold, Jehovah has set a king over you.
14 もし、あなたがたが主を恐れ、主に仕えて、その声に聞き従い、主の戒めにそむかず、あなたがたも、あなたがたを治める王も共に、あなたがたの神、主に従うならば、それで良い。
If ye fear Jehovah, and serve him, and hearken to his voice, and rebel not against the commandment of Jehovah, then both ye and the king also that reigns over you shall continue following Jehovah your God.
15 しかし、もしあなたがたが主の声に聞き従わず、主の戒めにそむくならば、主の手は、あなたがたとあなたがたの王を攻めるであろう。
But if ye will not hearken to the voice of Jehovah, and if ye rebel against the commandment of Jehovah, then will the hand of Jehovah be against you, as against your fathers.
16 それゆえ、今、あなたがたは立って、主が、あなたがたの目の前で行われる、この大いなる事を見なさい。
Now therefore stand and see this great thing which Jehovah will do before your eyes.
17 きょうは小麦刈の時ではないか。わたしは主に呼ばわるであろう。そのとき主は雷と雨を下して、あなたがたが王を求めて、主の前に犯した罪の大いなることを見させ、また知らせられるであろう」。
Is it not wheat-harvest to-day? I will call unto Jehovah, and he will send thunder and rain; and ye shall perceive and see that your wickedness is great which ye have done in the sight of Jehovah in asking for yourselves a king.
18 そしてサムエルが主に呼ばわったので、主はその日、雷と雨を下された。民は皆ひじょうに主とサムエルとを恐れた。
And Samuel called to Jehovah; and Jehovah sent thunder and rain that day. And all the people greatly feared Jehovah and Samuel.
19 民はみなサムエルに言った、「しもべらのために、あなたの神、主に祈って、われわれの死なないようにしてください。われわれは、もろもろの罪を犯した上に、また王を求めて、悪を加えました」。
And all the people said to Samuel, Pray to Jehovah thy God for thy servants, that we die not; for we have added to all our sins the wickedness to ask for ourselves a king.
20 サムエルは民に言った、「恐れることはない。あなたがたは、このすべての悪をおこなった。しかし主に従うことをやめず、心をつくして主に仕えなさい。
And Samuel said to the people, Fear not: ye have done all this wickedness; yet turn not aside from following Jehovah, and serve Jehovah with all your heart;
21 むなしい物に迷って行ってはならない。それは、あなたがたを助けることも救うこともできないむなしいものだからである。
and turn ye not aside; for [it would be] after vain things which cannot profit nor deliver; for they are vain.
22 主は、その大いなる名のゆえに、その民を捨てられないであろう。主が、あなたがたを自分の民とすることを良しとされるからである。
For Jehovah will not cast away his people for his great name's sake; because it has pleased Jehovah to make you his people.
23 また、わたしは、あなたがたのために祈ることをやめて主に罪を犯すことは、けっしてしないであろう。わたしはまた良い、正しい道を、あなたがたに教えるであろう。
Moreover, as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against Jehovah in ceasing to pray for you; and I will teach you the good and right way.
24 あなたがたは、ただ主を恐れ、心をつくして、誠実に主に仕えなければならない。そして主がどんなに大きいことをあなたがたのためにされたかを考えなければならない。
Only, fear Jehovah, and serve him in truth, with all your heart; for see how great things he has done for you.
25 しかし、あなたがたが、なおも悪を行うならば、あなたがたも、あなたがたの王も、共に滅ぼされるであろう」。
But if ye do wickedly, ye shall perish, both ye and your king.
