コリント人への手紙第一 14
1 愛を追い求めなさい。また、霊の賜物を、ことに預言することを、熱心に求めなさい。
Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that you may prophesy.
2 異言を語る者は、人にむかって語るのではなく、神にむかって語るのである。それはだれにもわからない。彼はただ、霊によって奥義を語っているだけである。
For he that speaks in an unknown tongue speaks not to men, but to God: for no man understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.
3 しかし預言をする者は、人に語ってその徳を高め、彼を励まし、慰めるのである。
But he that prophesies speaks to men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.
4 異言を語る者は自分だけの徳を高めるが、預言をする者は教会の徳を高める。
He that speaks in an unknown tongue edifies himself; but he that prophesies edifies the church.
5 わたしは実際、あなたがたがひとり残らず異言を語ることを望むが、特に預言をしてもらいたい。教会の徳を高めるように異言を解かない限り、異言を語る者よりも、預言をする者の方がまさっている。
I would that you all spoke with tongues but rather that you prophesied: for greater is he that prophesies than he that speaks with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.
6 だから、兄弟たちよ。たといわたしがあなたがたの所に行って異言を語るとしても、啓示か知識か預言か教かを語らなければ、あなたがたに、なんの役に立つだろうか。
Now, brothers, if I come to you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, except I shall speak to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine?
7 また、笛や立琴のような楽器でも、もしその音に変化がなければ、何を吹いているのか、弾いているのか、どうして知ることができようか。
And even things without life giving sound, whether pipe or harp, except they give a distinction in the sounds, how shall it be known what is piped or harped?
8 また、もしラッパがはっきりした音を出さないなら、だれが戦闘の準備をするだろうか。
For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?
9 それと同様に、もしあなたがたが異言ではっきりしない言葉を語れば、どうしてその語ることがわかるだろうか。それでは、空にむかって語っていることになる。
So likewise you, except you utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for you shall speak into the air.
10 世には多種多様の言葉があるだろうが、意味のないものは一つもない。
There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is without signification.
11 もしその言葉の意味がわからないなら、語っている人にとっては、わたしは異国人であり、語っている人も、わたしにとっては異国人である。
Therefore if I know not the meaning of the voice, I shall be to him that speaks a barbarian, and he that speaks shall be a barbarian to me.
12 だから、あなたがたも、霊の賜物を熱心に求めている以上は、教会の徳を高めるために、それを豊かにいただくように励むがよい。
Even so you, for as much as you are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that you may excel to the edifying of the church.
13 このようなわけであるから、異言を語る者は、自分でそれを解くことができるように祈りなさい。
Why let him that speaks in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret.
14 もしわたしが異言をもって祈るなら、わたしの霊は祈るが、知性は実を結ばないからである。
For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful.
15 すると、どうしたらよいのか。わたしは霊で祈ると共に、知性でも祈ろう。霊でさんびを歌うと共に、知性でも歌おう。
What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.
16 そうでないと、もしあなたが霊で祝福の言葉を唱えても、初心者の席にいる者は、あなたの感謝に対して、どうしてアァメンと言えようか。あなたが何を言っているのか、彼には通じない。
Else when you shall bless with the spirit, how shall he that occupies the room of the unlearned say Amen at your giving of thanks, seeing he understands not what you say?
17 感謝するのは結構だが、それで、ほかの人の徳を高めることにはならない。
For you truly give thanks well, but the other is not edified.
18 わたしは、あなたがたのうちのだれよりも多く異言が語れることを、神に感謝する。
I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than you all:
19 しかし教会では、一万の言葉を異言で語るよりも、ほかの人たちをも教えるために、むしろ五つの言葉を知性によって語る方が願わしい。
Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.
20 兄弟たちよ。物の考えかたでは、子供となってはいけない。悪事については幼な子となるのはよいが、考えかたでは、おとなとなりなさい。
Brothers, be not children in understanding: however, in malice be you children, but in understanding be men.
21 律法にこう書いてある、「わたしは、異国の舌と異国のくちびるとで、この民に語るが、それでも、彼らはわたしに耳を傾けない、と主が仰せになる」。
In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak to this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, says the LORD.
22 このように、異言は信者のためではなく未信者のためのしるしであるが、預言は未信者のためではなく信者のためのしるしである。
Why tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serves not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.
23 もし全教会が一緒に集まって、全員が異言を語っているところに、初心者か不信者かがはいってきたら、彼らはあなたがたを気違いだと言うだろう。
If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that you are mad?
24 しかし、全員が預言をしているところに、不信者か初心者がはいってきたら、彼の良心はみんなの者に責められ、みんなの者にさばかれ、
But if all prophesy, and there come in one that believes not, or one unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all:
25 その心の秘密があばかれ、その結果、ひれ伏して神を拝み、「まことに、神があなたがたのうちにいます」と告白するに至るであろう。
And thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest; and so falling down on his face he will worship God, and report that God is in you of a truth.
26 すると、兄弟たちよ。どうしたらよいのか。あなたがたが一緒に集まる時、各自はさんびを歌い、教をなし、啓示を告げ、異言を語り、それを解くのであるが、すべては徳を高めるためにすべきである。
How is it then, brothers? when you come together, every one of you has a psalm, has a doctrine, has a tongue, has a revelation, has an interpretation. Let all things be done to edifying.
27 もし異言を語る者があれば、ふたりか、多くて三人の者が、順々に語り、そして、ひとりがそれを解くべきである。
If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret.
28 もし解く者がいない時には、教会では黙っていて、自分に対しまた神に対して語っているべきである。
But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.
29 預言をする者の場合にも、ふたりか三人かが語り、ほかの者はそれを吟味すべきである。
Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge.
30 しかし、席にいる他の者が啓示を受けた場合には、初めの者は黙るがよい。
If any thing be revealed to another that sits by, let the first hold his peace.
31 あなたがたは、みんなが学びみんなが勧めを受けるために、ひとりずつ残らず預言をすることができるのだから。
For you may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted.
32 かつ、預言者の霊は預言者に服従するものである。
And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.
33 神は無秩序の神ではなく、平和の神である。聖徒たちのすべての教会で行われているように、
For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.
34 婦人たちは教会では黙っていなければならない。彼らは語ることが許されていない。だから、律法も命じているように、服従すべきである。
Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted to them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also says the law.
35 もし何か学びたいことがあれば、家で自分の夫に尋ねるがよい。教会で語るのは、婦人にとっては恥ずべきことである。
And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.
36 それとも、神の言はあなたがたのところから出たのか。あるいは、あなたがただけにきたのか。
What? came the word of God out from you? or came it to you only?
37 もしある人が、自分は預言者か霊の人であると思っているなら、わたしがあなたがたに書いていることは、主の命令だと認めるべきである。
If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write to you are the commandments of the Lord.
38 もしそれを無視する者があれば、その人もまた無視される。
But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant.
39 わたしの兄弟たちよ。このようなわけだから、預言することを熱心に求めなさい。また、異言を語ることを妨げてはならない。
Why, brothers, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.
40 しかし、すべてのことを適宜に、かつ秩序を正して行うがよい。
Let all things be done decently and in order.
