1 アダム、セツ、エノス、

[The first person God created was Adam]. Adam’s [son was] Seth. [Seth’s son was] Enosh. [Enosh’s son was] Kenan.

2 ケナン、マハラレル、ヤレド、

[Kenan’s son was] Mahalalel. [Mahalalel’s son was] Jared. [Jared’s son was] Enoch.

3 エノク、メトセラ、ラメク、

[Enoch’s son was] Methuselah. [Methusalah’s son was] Lamech. [Lamech’s son was] Noah.

4 ノア、セム、ハム、ヤペテ。

[Noah’s sons were] Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

5 ヤペテの子らはゴメル、マゴグ、マダイ、ヤワン、トバル、メセク、テラス。

The sons (OR, descendants) of Japheth were Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras.

6 ゴメルの子らはアシケナズ、デパテ、トガルマ。

The sons (OR, descendants) of Gomer were Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah.

7 ヤワンの子らはエリシャ、タルシシ、キッテム、ロダニム。

The descendants of Javan were Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Rodanim.

8 ハムの子らはクシ、エジプト、プテ、カナン。

The sons of Ham were Cush, Mizraim (OR, Egypt), Put, and Canaan.

9 クシの子らはセバ、ハビラ、サブタ、ラアマ、サブテカ。ラアマの子らはシバとデダン。

The descendants of Cush were Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. The sons (OR, descendants) of Raamah were Sheba and Dedan.

10 クシはニムロデを生んだ。ニムロデは初めて世の権力ある者となった。

Another descendant of Cush was Nimrod. When he grew up, he became a mighty warrior on the earth.

11 エジプトはルデびと、アナムびと、レハブびと、ナフトびと、

Mizraim (OR, Egypt) was the ancestor of the Lud people-group, the Anam people-group, the Lehab people-group, the Naphtuh people-group,

12 パテロスびと、カスルびと、カフトルびとを生んだ。カフトルびとからペリシテびとが出た。

the Pathrus people-group, the Casluh people-group, and the Caphtor people-group. The people of [the] Philistia [region] were descended from the Casluh people-group.

13 カナンは長子シドンとヘテを生んだ。

Canaan’s first son was Sidon. He was also the ancestor of the Heth people-group,

14 またエブスびと、アモリびと、ギルガシびと、

the Jebus people-group, the Amor people-group, the Girgash people-group,

15 ヒビびと、アルキびと、セニびと、

the Hiv people-group, the Ark people-group, the Sin people-group,

16 アルワデびと、ゼマリびと、ハマテびとを生んだ。

the Arvad people-group, the Zemar people-group, and the Hamath people-group.

17 セムの子らはエラム、アシュル、アルパクサデ、ルデ、アラム、ウズ、ホル、ゲテル、メセクである。

The sons of Shem were Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud, and Aram. Aram’s sons were Uz, Hul, Gether, and Meshech.

18 アルパクサデはシラを生み、シラはエベルを生んだ。

Arphaxad was the father of Shelah, who was the father of Eber.

19 エベルにふたりの子が生れた。ひとりの名はペレグ彼の代に地の民が散り分れたからであるその弟の名はヨクタンといった。

Eber had two sons. One was named Peleg [which sounds like the word that means ‘divided’] because during the time that he lived, [the people on] the earth were divided [into various language groups]. Peleg’s [younger] brother was Joktan.

20 ヨクタンはアルモダデ、シャレフ、ハザル・マウテ、エラ、

Joktan was the ancestor of Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,

21 ハドラム、ウザル、デクラ、

Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,

22 エバル、アビマエル、シバ、

Obal, Abimael, Sheba,

23 オフル、ハビラ、ヨバブを生んだ。これらはみなヨクタンの子である。

Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab.

24 セム、アルパクサデ、シラ、

The descendants of Shem, [in order from him to Abraham], were Arphaxad, Shelah,

25 エベル、ペレグ、リウ、

Eber, Peleg, Reu,

26 セルグ、ナホル、テラ、

Serug, Nahor, Terah,

27 アブラムすなわちアブラハムである。

and Abram, whose [name was later changed to] Abraham.

28 アブラハムの子らはイサクとイシマエルである。

Abraham’s sons were Isaac and Ishmael.

29 彼らの子孫は次のとおりである。イシマエルの長子はネバヨテ、次はケダル、アデビエル、ミブサム、

[The son of Abraham’s slave wife Hagar was Ishmael.] Ishmael’s [twelve] sons were Nebaioth, Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,

30 ミシマ、ドマ、マッサ、ハダデ、テマ、

Mishma, Dumah, Massa, Hadad, Tema,

31 エトル、ネフシ、ケデマ。これらはイシマエルの子孫である。

Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah.

32 アブラハムのそばめケトラの子孫は次のとおりである。彼女はジムラン、ヨクシャン、メダン、ミデアン、イシバク、シュワを産んだ。ヨクシャンの子らはシバとデダンである。

[After]’s [wife Sarah died, he took another wife named] Keturah. The sons of Abraham and Keturah were Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah. Jokshan’s sons were Sheba and Dedan.

33 ミデアンの子らはエパ、エペル、ヘノク、アビダ、エルダア。これらはみなケトラの子孫である。

Midian’s sons were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abida, and Eldaah.

34 アブラハムはイサクを生んだ。イサクの子らはエサウとイスラエル。

The son of Abraham [and his wife Sarah] was Isaac, and Isaac’s sons were Esau and [Jacob, whose name was later changed to] Israel.

35 エサウの子らはエリパズ、リウエル、エウシ、ヤラム、コラ。

The sons of Esau were Eliphaz, Reuel, Jeush, Jalam, and Korah.

36 エリパズの子らはテマン、オマル、ゼピ、ガタム、ケナズ、テムナ、アマレク。

The sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho (OR, Zephi), Gatam, Kenaz, Timna, and Amalek.

37 リウエルの子らはナハテ、ゼラ、シャンマ、ミッザ。

Reuel’s sons were Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah.

38 セイルの子らはロタン、ショバル、ヂベオン、アナ、デション、エゼル、デシャン。

[Another descendant of Esau was Seir. His descendants lived in the Edom region]. Seir’s sons were Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah, Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan.

39 ロタンの子らはホリとホマム。ロタンの妹はテムナ。

Lotan’s sons were Hori and Homam, and Lotan’s sister was Timna.

40 ショバルの子らはアルヤン、マナハテ、エバル、シピ、オナム。ヂベオンの子らはアヤとアナ。

Shobal’s sons were Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Shepho, and Onam. Zibeon’s sons were Aiah and Anah.

41 アナの子はデション。デションの子らはハムラン、エシバン、イテラン、ケラン。

Anah’s son was Dishon. 1 Dishon’s sons were Hemdan (OR, Hamran), Eshban, Ithran, and Keran.

42 エゼルの子らはビルハン、ザワン、ヤカン。デシャンの子らはウズとアラン。

Ezer’s sons were Bilhan, Zaavan, and Akan (OR, Jaakan). Dishan’s sons were Uz and Aran.

43 イスラエルの人々を治める王がまだなかった時、エドムの地を治めた王たちは次のとおりである。ベオルの子ベラ。その都の名はデナバといった。

[These are the names of] the kings that ruled [the] Edom [region] before any kings ruled over Israel: Bela, the son of Beor, was king in Edom, and the name of the city [in which he lived] was Dinhabah.

44 ベラが死んで、ボズラのゼラの子ヨバブが代って王となった。

When Bela died, Jobab, the son of Zerah from Bozrah [city], became the king.

45 ヨバブが死んで、テマンびとの地のホシャムが代って王となった。

When Jobab died, Husham became the king. He was from the region where the Teman people-group lived.

46 ホシャムが死んで、ベダテの子ハダデが代って王となった。彼はモアブの野でミデアンを撃った。彼の都の名はアビテといった。

When Husham died, Hadad, the son of Bedad, became the king. He [ruled in] Avith city. Hadad’s [army] defeated [the army of the] Midian [people-group] in [the] Moab [region].

47 ハダデが死んで、マスレカのサムラが代って王となった。

When Hadad died, Samlah became the king. He was from Masrekah [town].

48 サムラが死んで、ユフラテ川のほとりのレホボテのサウルが代って王となった。

When Samlah died, Shaul became the king. He was from Rehoboth [city] along the [Euphrates] river.

49 サウルが死んで、アクボルの子バアル・ハナンが代って王となった。

When Shaul died, Baal-Hanan, the son of Achbor, became the king.

50 バアル・ハナンが死んで、ハダデが代って王となった。彼の都の名はパイといった。彼の妻はマテレデの娘であって、名をメヘタベルといった。マテレデはメザハブの娘である。

When Baal-Hanan died, Hadad became the king. He was from Pau city. His wife’s name was Mehetabel; she was the daughter of Matred and the granddaughter of Me-Zahab.

51 ハダデも死んだ。エドムの族長は、テムナ侯、アルヤ侯、エテテ侯、

Then Hadad died. The leaders of the clans of the Edom people-group were Timna, Alvah, Jetheth,

52 アホリバマ侯、エラ侯、ピノン侯、

Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon,

53 ケナズ侯、テマン侯、ミブザル侯、

Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar,

54 マグデエル侯、イラム侯。これらはエドムの族長である。
