マタイの福音書 4
1 それから，イエスは霊によって荒野に導かれた。悪魔から誘惑を受けるためである。
Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
2 四十日四十夜断食し，そののち空腹を感じた。
And having fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward he was hungry.
3 すると誘惑する者がやって来て，彼に言った，「もしあなたが神の子なら，これらの石がパンになるように命じなさい」。
And after he who tempts came, he said to him, If thou are the Son of God, speak so that these stones may become bread.
4 しかし彼は答えた，「『人はパンだけで生きるのではなく，神の口から出て行く一つ一つの言葉によって生きなければならない』と書いてある」 。
But having answered, he said, It is written, Man will not live on bread alone, but on every word coming out through the mouth of God.
5 それから悪魔は彼を聖なる都の中に連れて来た。神殿の高い所に立たせて，
Then the devil takes him into the holy city, and stands him on the pinnacle of the temple.
6 イエスに言った。「もしあなたが神の子なら，下に身を投げなさい。こう書いてあるからだ，『神はあなたについてご自分のみ使いたちに指示をお与えになるだろう』，そして， 『彼らはその手であなたを支え，あなたが石に足を打ちつけることのないようにする』」。
And he says to him, If thou are the Son of God, cast thyself down, for it is written, He will command his agents about thee, and, They will take thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
7 イエスは彼に言った，「『あなたは，あなたの神なる主を試みてはならない』とも書いてある」 。
Jesus said to him, Again it is written, Thou shall not challenge the Lord thy God.
8 さらに悪魔は彼を非常に高い山に連れて行き，世のすべての王国とその栄光とを見せた。
Again, the devil takes him onto an exceedingly high mountain, and shows him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them.
9 彼はイエスに言った，「もしあなたがひれ伏してわたしを拝むなら，これらすべてをあなたに与えよう」。
And he says to him, All these things I give thee, if after falling down, thou will worship me.
10 その時，イエスは彼に言った，「サタンよ，わたしの後ろに下がれ！ 『あなたの神なる主をあなたは崇拝しなければならず，その方だけに仕えなければならない』と書いてあるからだ」 。
Then Jesus says to him, Get thee behind me, Satan, for it is written, Thou shall worship the Lord thy God, and him only thou shall serve.
11 それから悪魔はイエスを離れた。そして見よ，み使いたちがやって来て，彼に仕えた。
Then the devil leaves him, and behold, agents came and served him.
12 さて，イエスはヨハネが引き渡されたことを聞くと，ガリラヤに退いた。
Now when Jesus heard that John was delivered up, he departed into Galilee.
13 ナザレを離れ，ゼブルンとナフタリの地域にある海辺のカペルナウムに来て住んだ。
And having left Nazareth behind, after coming, he dwelt in Capernaum by the sea in the regions of Zebulun and Naphtali,
14 それは預言者イザヤを通して語られたことが果たされるためであった。こう言われていた。
so that what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which says,
15 「ゼブルンの地とナフタリの地，海に向かう地とヨルダンの向こうの地，異邦人たちのガリラヤ。
The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles,
16 闇の中に座っている民は大きな光を見た。その地方で死の陰で座っている者たち，その者たちに光が昇った」。
the people who dwell in darkness saw a great light, and to those who dwell in the region and shadow of death, light sprang up to them.
17 その時からイエスは宣教を開始して，こう言い始めた。「悔い改めなさい！ 天の王国が近づいたからだ」 。
From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent ye, for the kingdom of the heavens has approached.
18 ガリラヤの海辺を歩きながら，彼は二人の兄弟，すなわちペトロと呼ばれるシモンとその兄弟アンデレが，海で網を打っているのを目にした。彼らは漁師だったのである。
And walking by the sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen.
19 彼は彼らに言った，「わたしの後に付いて来なさい。そうすればあなた方を，人を捕る漁師にしよう」 。
And he says to them, Come behind me, and I will make you fishermen of men.
20 すぐに彼らは網を捨てて彼に従った。
And straightaway having left the nets, they followed him.
21 そこから進んで行くと，ゼベダイの子ヤコブとその兄弟ヨハネとが，その父ゼベダイと一緒に舟の中で自分たちの網を繕っているのを目にした。彼は彼らを呼んだ。
And having gone on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. And he called them.
22 すぐに彼らは，舟とその父を残して，彼に従った。
And straightaway having left the boat and their father, they followed him.
23 イエスはガリラヤ全土を歩き回り，その会堂で教え，王国の福音を宣教し，民の中のすべての疾患と病気をいやした。
And Jesus went around all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the good news of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.
24 彼に関する評判はシリア中に広まった。人々は病気の者，すなわち，いろいろな疾患や苦痛で苦しんでいる者，悪霊に取りつかれている者，てんかんの者，体のまひした者などを，すべて彼のもとに連れて来た。そこで彼は彼らをいやした。
And his fame went forth into all Syria. And they brought to him all those faring badly with various diseases, and gripped with pain, and being demon-possessed, and being lunatic, and paralyzed. And he healed them.
25 ガリラヤ，デカポリス，エルサレム，ユダヤ，またヨルダンの向こうから来た大群衆が彼に従った。
And many multitudes from Galilee and Decapolis and Jerusalem and Judea and beyond the Jordan followed him.
