ルカの福音書 3
1 さて，ティベリウス・カエサルの治世の第十五年，ポンティウス・ピラトがユダヤの総督，ヘロデがガリラヤの領主，その兄弟フィリポがイトゥリアとトラコニティスの領主，リュサニアスがアビレネの領主，
Then, in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being procurator of Judea, and Herod tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of Ituraea and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene,
2 アンナスとカイアファスが大祭司であったころ，神の言葉が荒野でザカリアの子ヨハネに臨んだ。
under the high priests Annas and Caiaphas: the word of the Lord came to John, the son of Zechariah, in the wilderness.
3 彼はヨルダン周辺の全地方に行って，罪の許しのための悔い改めのバプテスマを宣教していた。
And he went into the entire region of the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins,
4 預言者イザヤの言葉の書の中にこう書かれているとおりである。 「荒野で叫ぶ者の声がする，『主の道を整えよ。その道筋をまっすぐにせよ。
just as it has been written in the book of the sermons of the prophet Isaiah: “The voice of one crying out in the wilderness: Prepare the way of the Lord. Make straight his paths.
5 すべての谷間は埋められるだろう。すべての山と丘とは低くされるだろう。曲がったところはまっすぐにされ，でこぼこの道は平らにされるだろう。
Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low. And what is crooked shall be made straight. And the rough paths shall be made into level ways.
6 すべての肉なる者は神の救いを見るだろう』」。
And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.”
7 そこで彼は，彼からバプテスマを受けようとして出て来た群衆に言った， 「マムシらの子孫よ，来ようとしている憤りから逃れるようにと，だれがあなた方に告げたのか。
Therefore, he said to the crowd that went out in order to be baptized by him: “You progeny of vipers! Who told you to flee from the approaching wrath?
8 それなら，悔い改めにふさわしい実を生み出しなさい。『我々の父にアブラハムがいる』などと自分の内で言い始めてはいけない。あなた方に告げるが，神はこれらの石からでもアブラハムに子孫を起こすことができるのだ。
So then, produce fruits worthy of repentance. And do not begin to say, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you that God has the power to raise up sons to Abraham from these stones.
9 おのはすでに木々の根もとに置かれている。だから，良い実を生み出さない木はみな切り倒されて，火の中に投げ込まれるのだ」。
For even now the axe has been placed at the root of the trees. Therefore, every tree that does not produce good fruit shall be cut down and cast into the fire.”
10 群衆は彼に尋ねた，「わたしたちは何をすればよいのですか」。
And the crowed was questioning him, saying, “What then should we do?”
11 彼は彼らに答えた，「二枚の上着を持っている者は，持っていない者に与えなさい。食物を持っている者も，同じようにしなさい」。
But in response, he said to them: “Whoever has two coats, let him give to those who do not have. And whoever has food, let him act similarly.”
12 徴税人たちもバプテスマを受けに来て，彼に言った，「先生，わたしたちは何をすればよいのですか」。
Now the tax collectors also came to be baptized, and they said to him, “Teacher, what should we do?”
13 彼は彼らに言った，「自分に定められたより多くを取り立ててはいけない」。
But he said to them, “You should do nothing more than what has been appointed to you.”
14 兵士たちも彼に尋ねて言った，「わたしたちについてはどうですか。わたしたちは何をすればよいのですか」。 彼は彼らに言った，「人から乱暴にゆすり取ったり，不当に非難したりしてはいけない。自分の給料で満足しなさい」。
Then the soldiers also questioned him, saying, “And what should we do?” And he said to them: “You should strike no one, and you should not make false accusations. And be content with your pay.”
15 民は待ち望んでおり，すべての者がヨハネについて，彼がキリストなのではないかと心の中で論じていたので，
Now all were thinking about John in their hearts, and the people were supposing that perhaps he might be the Christ.
16 ヨハネは皆に答えた，「わたしは確かに，あなた方に水でバプテスマを施しているが，わたしより強力な方が来られる。わたしはその方のサンダルの締めひもをほどくにも値しない。その方は，あなた方に聖霊と火でバプテスマを施すだろう。
John responded by saying to everyone: “Indeed, I baptize you with water. But there will arrive one stronger than me, the laces of whose shoes I am not worthy to loosen. He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit, and with fire.
17 あおり分けるものがその手にあり，その脱穀場をすっかりきれいにし，小麦をその倉に集め，もみ殻のほうは消すことのできない火で焼き尽くすだろう」。
His winnowing fan is in his hand. And he will purify his threshing floor. And he will gather the wheat into the barn. But the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire.”
18 こうして，他にも多くのことを勧めながら，民に良いたよりを宣教した。
Indeed, he also proclaimed many other things, exhorting the people.
19 ところが，領主ヘロデは，自分の兄弟の妻ヘロディアに関して，またヘロデが行なったすべての悪いことに関して彼に戒められたので，
But Herod the tetrarch, when he was corrected by him concerning Herodias, his brother’s wife, and concerning all the evils that Herod had done,
20 それらのすべての行為に加えて，ヨハネをろうやに閉じ込めた。
added this also, above all else: that he confined John to prison.
21 民が皆バプテスマを受けている時のこと，イエスもバプテスマを受け，祈っていた。天が開いて，
Now it happened that, when all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized; and as he was praying, heaven was opened.
22 聖霊がハトのような姿で彼の上に下って来た。そして，天から出て来た声が言った，「あなたはわたしの愛する子，わたしの心にかなう者である」。
And the Holy Spirit, in a corporal appearance like a dove, descended upon him. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my beloved Son. In you, I am well pleased.”
23 イエス自身は，教え始めた時およそ三十歳で，（一般の見方では）ヨセフの子，ヘリの子，
And Jesus himself was beginning to be about thirty years old, being (as it was supposed) the son of Joseph, who was of Heli, who was of Matthat,
24 マタトの子，レビの子，メルキの子，ヤナイの子，ヨセフの子，
who was of Levi, who was of Melchi, who was of Jannai, who was of Joseph,
25 マタティアの子，アモスの子，ナウムの子，エスリの子，ナガイの子，
who was of Mattathias, who was of Amos, who was of Nahum, who was of Esli, who was of Naggai,
26 マアトの子，マタティアの子，セメインの子，ヨセフの子，ユダの子，
who was of Maath, who was of Mattathias, who was of Semein, who was of Josech, who was of Joda,
27 ヨハナンの子，レサの子，ゼルバベルの子，シャルティエルの子，ネリの子，
who was of Joanan, who was of Rhesa, who was of Zerubbabel, who was of Shealtiel, who was of Neri,
28 メルキの子，アディの子，コサムの子，エルモダムの子，エルの子，
who was of Melchi, who was of Addi, who was of Cosam, who was of Elmadam, who was of Er,
29 ヨサの子，エリエゼルの子，ヨリムの子，マタトの子，レビの子，
who was of Joshua, who was of Eliezer, who was of Jorim, who was of Matthat, who was of Levi,
30 シメオンの子，ユダの子，ヨセフの子，ヨナンの子，エリアキムの子，
who was of Simeon, who was of Judah, who was of Joseph, who was of Jonam, who was of Eliakim,
31 メレアの子，メナンの子，マタタの子，ナタンの子，ダビデの子，
who was of Melea, who was of Menna, who was of Mattatha, who was of Nathan, who was of David,
32 エッサイの子，オベドの子，ボアズの子，サルモンの子，ナフションの子，
who was of Jesse, who was of Obed, who was of Boaz, who was of Salmon, who was of Nahshon,
33 アミナダブの子，アラムの子，ヨラムの子，ヘツロンの子，ペレツの子，ユダの子，
who was of Amminadab, who was of Aram, who was of Hezron, who was of Perez, who was of Judah,
34 ヤコブの子，イサクの子，アブラハムの子，テラの子，ナホルの子，
who was of Jacob, who was of Isaac, who was of Abraham, who was of Terah, who was of Nahor,
35 セルグの子，レウの子，ペレグの子，エベルの子，シェラの子，
who was of Serug, who was of Reu, who was of Peleg, who was of Eber, who was of Shelah,
36 カイナンの子，アルパクシャドの子，セムの子，ノアの子，レメクの子，
who was of Cainan, who was of Arphaxad, who was of Shem, who was of Noah, who was of Lamech,
37 メトセラの子，エノクの子，ヤレドの子，マハラルエルの子，カイナンの子，
who was of Methuselah, who was of Enoch, who was of Jared, who was of Mahalalel, who was of Cainan,
38 エノスの子，セツの子，アダムの子，神の子であった。
who was of Enos, who was of Seth, who was of Adam, who was of God.
