創世記 38

1 當時ユダ兄弟をはなれて下りアドラム人名はヒラといふ者の近邊に天幕をはりしが

And it came to pass at that time, that Judah went down from his brethren, and turned in to a certain Adullamite, whose name was Hirah.

2 ユダかしこにてカナン人名はシュアといふ者の女子を見これを娶りてその所にいる

And Judah saw there a daughter of a certain Canaanite, whose name was Shuah; and he took her, and went in unto her.

3 彼はらみて男子を生みければユダその名をエルとなづく

And she conceived, and bare a son; and he called his name Er.

4 彼ふたたび孕みて男子を生みその名をオナンとなづけ

And she conceived again, and bare a son; and she called his name Onan.

5 またかさねて孕みて男子を生みてその名をシラとなづく此子をうみける時ユダはクジブにありき

And she yet again conceived, and bare a son; and called his name Shelah: and he was at Chezib, when she bare him.

6 ユダその長子エルのために妻をむかふその名をタマルといふ

And Judah took a wife for Er his firstborn, whose name was Tamar.

7 ユダの長子エル、ヱホバの前に惡をなしたればヱホバこれを死しめたまふ

And Er, Judah's firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD slew him.

8 茲にユダ、オナンにいひけるは汝の兄の妻の所にいりて之をめとり汝の兄をして子をえせしめよ

And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto your brother's wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to your brother.

9 オナンその子の己のものとならざるを知たれば兄の妻の所にいりし時兄に子をえせしめざらんために地に洩したり

And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother's wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother.

10 斯なせし事ヱホバの目に惡かりければヱホバ彼をも死しめたまふ

And the thing which he did displeased the LORD: wherefore he slew him also.

11 ユダその媳タマルにいひけるは嫠婦となりて汝の父の家にをりわが子シラの人となるを待てと恐らくはシラも亦その兄弟のごとく死るならんとおもひたればなりタマルすなはち往てその父の家にをる

Then said Judah to Tamar his daughter in law, Remain a widow at your father's house, till Shelah my son be grown: for he said, Lest possibly he die also, as his brethren did. And Tamar went and dwelt in her father's house.

12 日かさなりて後シュアの女ユダの妻死たりユダ慰をいれてその友アドラム人ヒラとともにテムナにのぼりその羊毛を剪る者の所にいたる

And in process of time the daughter of Shuah Judah's wife died; and Judah was comforted, and went up unto his sheepshearers to Timnath, he and his friend Hirah the Adullamite.

13 茲にタマルにつげて視よなんぢの舅はその羊の毛を剪んとてテムナにのぼるといふ者ありしかば

And it was told Tamar, saying, Behold your father in law goes up to Timnath to shear his sheep.

14 彼その嫠の服を脱すて被衣をもて身をおほひつつみテムナの途の側にあるエナイムの入口に坐す其はシラ人となりたれども己これが妻にせられざるを見たればなり

And she put her widow's garments off from her, and covered her with a vail, and wrapped herself, and sat in an open place, which is by the way to Timnath; for she saw that Shelah was grown, and she was not given unto him to wife.

15 彼その面を蔽ひゐたりしかばユダこれを見て娼妓ならんとおもひ

When Judah saw her, he thought her to be an harlot; because she had covered her face.

16 途の側にて彼に就き請ふ來りて我をして汝の所にいらしめよといふ其はその子の妻なるをしらざればなり彼いひけるは汝何を我にあたへてわが所にいらんとするや

And he turned unto her by the way, and said, Go to, I pray you, let me come in unto you; (for he knew not that she was his daughter in law.) And she said, What will you give me, that you may come in unto me?

17 ユダいひけるは我群より山羊の羔をおくらん彼いふ汝其をおくるまで質をあたへんか

And he said, I will send you a kid from the flock. And she said, Will you give me a pledge, till you send it?

18 ユダ何の質をなんぢに與ふべきやといふに彼汝の印と綬と汝の手の杖をといひければ即ちこれを與へて彼の所にいりぬ彼ユダに由て姙めり

And he said, What pledge shall I give you? And she said, Your signet, and your bracelets, and your staff that is in your hand. And he gave it her, and came in unto her, and she conceived by him.

19 彼起て去りその被衣をぬぎすて嫠婦の服をまとふ

And she arose, and went away, and laid by her vail from her, and put on the garments of her widowhood.

20 かくてユダ婦の手より質をとらんとてその友アドラム人の手に托して山羊の羔をおくりけるが彼婦を見ざれば

And Judah sent the kid by the hand of his friend the Adullamite, to receive his pledge from the woman's hand: but he found her not.

21 その處の人に問て途の側なるエナイムの娼妓は何處にをるやといふに此には娼妓なしといひければ

Then he asked the men of that place, saying, Where is the harlot, that was openly by the way side? And they said, There was no harlot in this place.

22 ユダの許にかへりていふ我彼を見いださず亦その處の人此には娼妓なしといへりと

And he returned to Judah, and said, I cannot find her; and also the men of the place said, that there was no harlot in this place.

23 ユダいひけるは彼にとらせおけ恐くはわれら笑抦とならん我この山羊の羔をおくりたるに汝かれを見ざるなりと

And Judah said, Let her take it to her, lest we be shamed: behold, I sent this kid, and you have not found her.

24 三月ばかりありて後ユダに告る者ありていふ汝の媳タマル姦淫をなせり亦その姦淫によりて妊めりユダいひけるは彼を曵いだして焚べし

And it came to pass about three months after, that it was told Judah, saying, Tamar your daughter in law has played the harlot; and also, behold, she is with child by whoredom. And Judah said, Bring her forth, and let her be burnt.

25 彼ひきいだされし時その舅にいひつかはしけるは是をもてる人によりて我は妊りと彼すなはち請ふこの印と綬と杖は誰の所屬なるかを辨別よといふ

When she was brought forth, she sent to her father in law, saying, By the man, whose these are, am I with child: and she said, Discern, I pray you, whose are these, the signet, and bracelets, and staff.

26 ユダこれを見識ていひけるは彼は我よりも正しわれ彼をわが子わがシラにあたへざりしによりてなりと再びこれを知らざりき

And Judah acknowledged them, and said, She has been more righteous than I; because that I gave her not to Shelah my son. And he had sexual contact with her again no more.

27 かくて產の時にいたりて見るにその胎に孿あり

And it came to pass in the time of her travail, that, behold, twins were in her womb.

28 その產時手出しかば產婆是首にいづといひて絳き線をとりてその手にしばりしが

And it came to pass, when she travailed, that the one put out his hand: and the midwife took and bound upon his hand a scarlet thread, saying, This came out first.

29 手を引こむるにあたりて兄弟いでたれば汝なんぞ圻いづるやその圻汝に歸せんといへり故にその名はペレヅ(圻)と稱る

And it came to pass, as he drew back his hand, that, behold, his brother came out: and she said, How have you broken forth? this breach be upon you: therefore his name was called Pharez.

30 その兄弟手に絳線のある者後にいづその名はゼラとよばる

And afterward came out his brother, that had the scarlet thread upon his hand: and his name was called Zarah.
