創世記 13

1 アブラム其妻および其有る諸の物と偕にエジプトを出て南の地に上れりロト彼と共にありき

Abram went up out of Egypt: he, his wife, and all his possessions, and Lot with him, into the Negev.

2 アブラム甚家畜と金銀に富り

Abram was very rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold.

3 彼南の地より其旅路に進てベテルに至りベテルとアイの間なる其以前に天幕を張たる處に至れり

He went on his journeys from the Negev even to Bethel, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai,

4 即ち彼が初に其處に築きたる壇のある處なり彼處にアブラム、ヱホバの名を龥り

to the place where he had first built the altar. And there Abram called on the name of God.

5 アブラムと偕に行しロトも羊牛および天幕を有り

Lot also, who went with Abram, had flocks, and herds, and tents.

6 其地は彼等を載て倶に居しむること能はざりき彼等は其所有多かりしに縁て倶に居ることを得ざりしなり

The land was not able to support them while they stayed together, for they had so many possessions that they were unable to remain together.

7 斯有かばアブラムの家畜の牧者とロトの家畜の牧者の間に競爭ありきカナン人とペリジ人此時其地に居住り

There was a strife between the herdsmen of Abram's livestock and the herdsmen of Lot's livestock. And the Canaanite and the Perizzite lived in the land at that time.

8 アブラム、ロトに言けるは我等は兄弟の人なれば請ふ我と汝の間およびわが牧者と汝の牧者の間に競爭あらしむる勿れ

Abram said to Lot, "Please, let there be no strife between me and you, and between my herdsmen and your herdsmen; for we are relatives.

9 地は皆爾の前にあるにあらずや請ふ我を離れよ爾若左にゆかば我右にゆかん又爾右にゆかば我左にゆかんと

Isn't the whole land before you? Please separate yourself from me. If you go to the left hand, then I will go to the right. Or if you go to the right hand, then I will go to the left."

10 是に於てロト目を擧てヨルダンの凡ての低地を瞻望みけるにヱホバ、ソドムとゴモラとを滅し給はざりし前なりければゾアルに至るまであまねく善く潤澤ひてヱホバの園の如くエジプトの地の如くなりき

Lot lifted up his eyes, and saw all the plain of the Jordan, that it was well-watered everywhere, like the garden of God, like the land of Egypt, in the direction of Zoar. (This was before God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.)

11 ロト乃ちヨルダンの低地を盡く撰とりて東に徙れり斯彼等彼此に別たり

So Lot chose the Plain of the Jordan for himself. Lot traveled east, and they separated from each other.

12 アブラムはカナンの地に住り又ロトは低地の諸邑に住み其天幕を遷してソドムに至れり

Abram lived in the land of Canaan, and Lot lived in the cities of the plain, and moved his tent as far as Sodom.

13 ソドムの人は惡くしてヱホバの前に大なる罪人なりき

Now the people of Sodom were evil, sinning greatly against God.

14 ロトのアブラムに別れし後ヱホバ、アブラムに言たまひけるは爾の目を擧て爾の居る處より西東北南を瞻望め

And God said to Abram after Lot had departed from him, "Now, lift up your eyes, and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward,

15 凡そ汝が觀る所の地は我之を永く爾と爾の裔に與べし

for all the land which you see I will give to you and to your offspring forever.

16 我爾の後裔を地の塵沙の如くなさん若人地の塵沙を數ふることを得ば爾の後裔も數へらるべし

I will make your offspring as the dust of the earth, so that if one can count the dust of the earth, then your offspring also could be counted.

17 爾起て縱横に其地を行き巡るべし我之を爾に與へんと

Arise, walk through the land in its length and in its breadth; for I will give it to you."

18 アブラム遂に天幕を遷して來りヘブロンのマムレの橡林に住み彼處にてヱホバに壇を築けり

Abram moved his tent, and came and lived by the oaks of Mamre, which are in Hebron, and built an altar there to God.
