Genesi 19
1 Or i due angeli giunsero a Sodoma verso sera; e Lot stava sedendo alla porta di Sodoma; e, come li vide, s’alzò per andar loro incontro e si prostrò con la faccia a terra, e disse:
So the two messengers went in towards Sodom at eventide, Lot, being seated in the gate of Sodom, —so Lot beheld and rose up to meet them, and bowed himself with his face to the earth.
2 “Signori miei, vi prego, venite in casa del vostro servo, albergatevi questa notte, e lavatevi i piedi; poi domattina vi leverete per tempo e continuerete il vostro cammino”. Ed essi risposero: “No; passeremo la notte sulla piazza”.
And he said Behold, I pray you my lords turn aside, I pray you, into the house of your servant, —and tarry the night and bathe your feet, so shall ye rise early, and go on your way. And they said, Nay, but, in the broad way, will we tarry the night.
3 Ma egli fe’ loro tanta premura, che vennero da lui ed entrarono in casa sua. Ed egli fece loro un convito, cosse dei pani senza lievito, ed essi mangiarono.
But he became exceeding urgent with them, so they turned aside unto him and entered into his house, —and he made for them a banquet, unleavened cakes, also did he bake, and they did eat.
4 Ma prima che si fossero coricati, gli uomini della città, i Sodomiti, circondarono la casa: giovani e vecchi, la popolazione intera venuta da ogni lato; e chiamarono Lot, e gli dissero:
Ere yet they lay down, the men of the city—the men of Sodom, had come round against the house, from youth even unto age, —all the people from every quarter,
5 “Dove sono quegli uomini che son venuti da te stanotte? Menaceli fuori, affinché noi li conosciamo!”
And they called unto Lot and said to him, Where are the men who have come in unto thee tonight? Bring them forth unto us, and let us know them!
6 Lot uscì verso di loro sull’ingresso di casa, si chiuse dietro la porta, e disse:
And Lot went forth unto them to the entrance; but the door, closed he behind him.
7 “Deh, fratelli miei, non fate questo male!
And he said, —Do not I pray you my brethren act wickedly.
8 Ecco, ho due figliuole che non hanno conosciuto uomo; deh, lasciate ch’io ve le meni fuori, e voi fate di loro quel che vi piacerà; soltanto non fate nulla a questi uomini, poiché son venuti all’ombra del mio tetto”.
Behold, I pray you, I, have two daughters who have not known man, I must needs now bring, them, forth unto you, and do ye to them, as may be good in your eyes, —Only to these men, ye may do nothing; for on this account, have they come under the shade of my roof.
9 Ma essi gli dissero: “Fatti in là!” E ancora: “Quest’individuo è venuto qua come straniero, e la vuol far da giudice! Ora faremo a te peggio che a quelli!” E, premendo Lot con violenza, s’avvicinarono per sfondare la porta.
And they said, Stand back, And they said, This one, by himself, hath come in to sojourn and must always be acting the judge, Now, will we do more wickedly to thee, than to them. So they pressed sore upon the man—upon Lot—exceedingly, and drew near to break open the door.
10 Ma quegli uomini stesero la mano, trassero Lot in casa con loro, e chiusero la porta.
And the men thrust forth their hand, and brought Lot in unto them into the house—and, the door, they closed:
11 E colpirono di cecità la gente ch’era alla porta della casa, dal più piccolo al più grande, talché si stancarono a cercar la porta.
the men also who were at the entrance of the house, smote they with blindness, from small even unto great, so that they wearied themselves to find the entrance.
12 E quegli uomini dissero a Lot: “Chi hai tu ancora qui? fa’ uscire da questo luogo generi, figliuoli, figliuole e chiunque de’ tuoi è in questa città;
And the men said unto Lot, Whom besides hast thou here? Son-in-law and thy sons and thy daughters, and all that thou hast in the city, bring thou forth out of the place;
13 poiché noi distruggeremo questo luogo, perché il grido contro i suoi abitanti è grande nel cospetto dell’Eterno, e l’Eterno ci ha mandati a distruggerlo”.
For we are about to destroy this place, —for, great, is the outcry of them unto the face of Yahweh, so that Yahweh hath sent us to destroy it.
14 Allora Lot usci, parlò ai suoi generi che avevano preso le sue figliuole, e disse: “Levatevi, uscite da questo luogo, perché l’Eterno sta per distruggere la città”. Ma ai i generi parve che volesse scherzare.
And Lot went forth and spake unto his sons-in-law who were about to take his two daughters and said Arise come forth out of this place, for Yahweh is about to destroy the city. And it came to pass, that he was as one that laughed, in the eyes of his sons-in-law.
15 E come l’alba cominciò ad apparire, gli angeli sollecitarono Lot, dicendo: “Lèvati, prendi tua moglie e le tue due figliuole che si trovan qui, affinché tu non perisca nel castigo di questa città”.
But as soon as, the dawn had sprung up, the messengers hastened Lot saying, —Arise! take thy wife and thy two daughters that are at hand, lest thou be swept away in the punishment of the city.
16 Ma egli s’indugiava; e quegli uomini presero per la mano lui, sua moglie e le sue due figliuole, perché l’Eterno lo volea risparmiare; e lo menaron via, e lo misero fuori della città.
And he lingered—so the men laid hold of his hand and of the hand of his wife and of the hand of his two daughters, in the tenderness of Yahweh towards him, —and they brought him out and led him forth outside the city.
17 E avvenne che quando li ebbero fatti uscire, uno di quegli uomini disse: “Sàlvati la vita! non guardare indietro, e non ti fermare in alcun luogo della pianura; sàlvati al monte, che tu non abbia a perire!”
And it came to pass when they had brought them forth outside, that they said, Escape for thy life, Look not behind thee, neither stand still in all the vale, —To the mountain, escape thou lest thou be swept away.
18 E Lot rispose loro: “No, mio signore!
And Lot said unto them, —No, I pray thee, My Lord!
19 ecco, il tuo servo ha trovato grazia agli occhi tuoi, e tu hai mostrato la grandezza della tua bontà verso di me conservandomi in vita; ma io non posso salvarmi al monte prima che il disastro mi sopraggiunga, ed io perisca.
Behold, I pray thee thy servant hath found favour in thine eyes, so that thou hast magnified thy lovingkindness which thou hast performed with me in keeping alive my soul.—But, I, cannot escape to the mountain, lest calamity overtake me so shall I die.
20 Ecco, questa città è vicina da potermici rifugiare, ed è piccola. Deh, lascia ch’io scampi quivi non è essa piccola? e vivrà l’anima mia!”
Behold, I pray thee, this city, is near for fleeing thither And, it, is a little one, let me I pray thee, escape thither—is it not a, little, one? That my soul may live!
21 E quegli a lui: “Ecco, anche questa grazia io ti concedo: di non distruggere la città, della quale hai parlato.
And he said unto him, Behold! I have lifted up thy countenance, even as to this thing, —so that I will not overthrow the city, of which thou hast spoken.
22 Affrettati, scampa colà, poiché io non posso far nulla finché tu vi sia giunto”. Perciò quella città fu chiamata Tsoar.
Haste thee escape thither, for I cannot do anything, until thou have come in thither. For this cause: was the name of the city called Zoar.
23 Il sole si levava sulla terra quando Lot arrivò a Tsoar.
When, the sun, had come forth on the earth, Lot had entered into Zoar.
24 Allora l’Eterno fece piovere dai cieli su Sodoma e Gomorra zolfo e fuoco, da parte dell’Eterno;
And, Yahweh, rained, upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah, brimstone and fire, —from Yahweh, out of the heavens:
25 ed egli distrusse quelle città e tutta la pianura e tutti gli abitanti delle città e quanto cresceva sul suolo.
so he overthrew these cities, and all the circuit, —and all the inhabitants of the cities, and the produce of the ground.
26 Ma la moglie di Lot si volse a guardare indietro, e diventò una statua di sale.
But his wife looked from behind him, —and became—a pillar of salt.
27 E Abrahamo si levò la mattina a buon’ora, e andò al luogo dove s’era prima fermato davanti all’Eterno;
And Abraham gat up early in the morning, unto the place where he had stood before Yahweh;
28 guardò verso Sodoma e Gomorra e verso tutta la regione della pianura, ed ecco vide un fumo che si levava dalla terra, come il fumo d’una fornace.
and he looked out over the face of Sodom and Gomorrah, and over all the face of the land of the circuit, and beheld and lo! the smoke of the land went up, like the smoke of a furnace.
29 Così avvenne che, quando Iddio distrusse le città della pianura, egli si ricordò d’Abrahamo, e fece partir Lot di mezzo al disastro, allorché sovvertì le città dove Lot avea dimorato.
And it came to pass when God destroyed the cities of the circuit, that God remembered Abraham, and sent forth Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities wherein Lot had dwelt.
30 Lot salì da Tsoar e dimorò sul monte insieme con le sue due figliuole, perché temeva di stare in Tsoar; e dimorò in una spelonca, egli con le sue due figliuole.
And Lot went up out of Zoar, and dwelt in the mountain and his two daughters with him. for he feared to dwell in Zoar, so he dwelt in a cave, he, and his two daughters.
31 E la maggiore disse alla minore: “Nostro padre è vecchio, e non c’è più nessuno sulla terra per venire da noi, come si costuma in tutta la terra.
And the firstborn said unto the younger. Our father is old, —and, a man, there is not in the earth to come in unto us, after the way of all the earth.
32 Vieni, diamo a bere del vino a nostro padre, e giaciamoci con lui, affinché possiamo conservare la razza di nostro padre”.
Come on! let us cause our father to drink wine and let us lie with him, that we may keep alive from our father, a seed.
33 E quella stessa notte dettero a bere del vino al loro padre; e la maggiore entrò e si giacque con suo padre; ed egli non s’accorse né quando essa si coricò né quando si levò.
So they caused their father to drink wine that night, —and the firstborn went in. and lay with her father, but he noticed not her lying down nor her rising up.
34 E avvenne che il dì seguente, la maggiore disse alla minore: “Ecco, la notte passata io mi giacqui con mio padre; diamogli a bere del vino anche questa notte; e tu entra, e giaciti con lui, affinché possiamo conservare la razza di nostro padre”.
And it came to pass on the morrow, that the firstborn said unto the younger, Lo! I lay, last night with my father, let us cause him to drink wine this night also, and go thou in—lie with him, that we may keep alive from our father, a seed.
35 E anche quella notte dettero a bere del vino al padre loro, e la minore andò a giacersi con lui; ed egli non s’accorse né quando essa si coricò né quando si levò.
So they caused their father, on that night also to drink wine, and the younger arose, and lay with him, but he noticed not her lying down, nor her rising up.
36 Così le due figliuole di Lot rimasero incinte del loro padre.
Thus did, the two daughters of Lot conceive from their father.
37 E la maggiore partorì un figliuolo, al quale pose nome Moab. Questi è il padre dei Moabiti, che sussistono fino al di d’oggi.
And the firstborn bare a son, and called his name Moab, —the same, is the father of Moab, unto this day.
38 E la minore partorì anch’essa un figliuolo, al quale pose nome Ben-Ammi. Questi è il padre degli Ammoniti, che sussistono fino al dì d’oggi.
And the younger she also bare a son, and called his name Ben-ammi, —the same, is the father of the sons of Ammon—unto this day.
