Salmi 39
1 Salmo di Davide, [dato] a Iedutun, Capo de' Musici IO aveva detto: Io prenderò guardia alle mie vie, Che io non pecchi colla mia lingua; Io guarderò la mia bocca con un frenello, Mentre l'empio [sarà] davanti a me.
“To the chief musician, to Jeduthun, a psalm of David.” I said, I will guard my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will guard my mouth with a muzzle, while the wicked is before me.
2 Io sono stato mutolo e cheto; Ho [eziandio] taciuto il bene; Ma la mia doglia si è inasprita.
I was dumb in deep silence, I was quite still, even from [speaking] good; but my pain was greatly excited;
3 Il mio cuore si è riscaldato dentro di me; Un fuoco si è acceso, mentre io ravvolgeva [questo] nell'animo mio; [Onde] io ho parlato colla mia lingua, [dicendo: ]
My heart was hot within me, in my self-communing there burnt a fire: [then] spoke I with my tongue,
4 O Signore, fammi conoscere il mio fine, E quale è il termine de' miei dì; [Fa' ch]'io sappia quanto io ho da vivere [ancora] in questo mondo.
Let me know, O Lord, my end, and the measure of my days, what it is: I wish to know when I shall cease to be.
5 Ecco tu hai ridotti i miei dì alla misura di un palmo, E il tempo della mia vita [è] come niente appo te; Certo, ogni uomo, quantunque sia in piè, [è] tutta vanità. (Sela)
Behold, measured out with the span hast thou made my days; and my whole duration is nothing before thee: yea, as nothing but vanity doth every man stand here. (Selah)
6 Certo l'uomo va e viene in figura; Certo in vano si travagliano tutti, [E] adunano [de' beni] senza sapere chi li raccorrà.
As nothing but a shadowy image doth man walk about, yea, for vanity only do all make a noise: he heapeth up his gains, and knoweth not who shall gather them.
7 Ma ora, Signore, che aspetto io? La mia speranza è in te.
And now, what shall I wait for, O Lord? my hope is in thee.
8 Liberami da tutti i miei misfatti; Non farmi essere il vituperio dello stolto.
From all my transgressions deliver thou me: render me not the object of reproach of the worthless.
9 Io ammutolisco, io non aprirò la bocca; Perciocchè tu hai fatto [questo].
I was dumb, I opened not my mouth; because thou hadst done it.
10 Toglimi d'addosso la tua piaga; Io mi vengo meno, per la guerra che tu [mi] fai colla tua mano.
Remove thou thy plague away from me: from the blows of thy hand am I consumed.
11 Se tu castighi alcuno con castigamenti d'iniquità, Tu fai struggere tutto ciò che vi è di bello e d'eccellente in lui, Come una tignuola; certo, ogni uomo [è] vanità. (Sela)
When thou with corrections chastisest man for iniquity, thou causest his excellence to melt away as [if eaten by] the moth: yea, nothing but vanity is every man. (Selah)
12 Signore, ascolta la mia orazione, e porgi l'orecchio al mio grido, E non esser sordo alle mie lagrime; Perciocchè io [son] forestiere appo te, [Ed] avveniticcio, come tutti i miei padri.
Hear my prayer, O Lord, and give ear unto my cry; be not silent at my tears; for a stranger am I with thee, a sojourner, like all my fathers.
13 Cessati da me, acciocchè io mi rinforzi, Innanzi che io me ne vada, e non [sia più].
Leave off from me, that I may recover strength, before I go hence, and am no more.
