Salmi 38

1 Salmo di Davide, da rammemorare SIGNORE, non correggermi nella tua indegnazione; E [non] castigarmi nel tuo cruccio.

Yahweh, when you are angry [with me], do not rebuke/scold me and punish me!

2 Perciocchè le tue saette son discese in me, E la tua mano mi si è calata addosso.

[Now it is as though] you have shot your arrows at me and wounded me; you have struck me and knocked me down.

3 Egli non [vi è] nulla di sano nella mia carne, per cagione della tua ira; Le mie ossa non hanno requie alcuna, per cagion del mio peccato.

Because you have been angry with me, I am suffering great pain. Because of my sin, my whole body is diseased.

4 Perciocchè le mie iniquità trapassano il mio capo; [Sono] a guisa di grave peso, son pesanti più che io non posso portare.

All my sins are [like a flood] that covers my head; they are like a load that is very heavy, with the result that I cannot carry it.

5 Le mie posteme putono, e colano, Per la mia follia.

Because I have done foolish things, I have sores that have become worse, and they stink.

6 Io son tutto travolto e piegato; Io vo attorno tuttodì vestito a bruno;

[Sometimes] I am bent over, and [sometimes] I lie prostrate; I am sad/cry all day.

7 Perciocchè i miei fianchi son pieni d'infiammagione; E non [vi è] nulla di sano nella mia carne.

My body is burning with fever, and I am very ill.

8 Io son tutto fiacco e trito; Io ruggisco per il fremito del mio cuore.

I am completely exhausted, and I have no strength. I am very distressed, and I groan with pain.

9 Signore, ogni mio desiderio [è] nel tuo cospetto; Ed i miei sospiri non ti sono occulti.

Yahweh, you know that I desire [to be healed]; you hear me while I am groaning.

10 Il mio cuore è agitato, la mia forza mi lascia; La luce stessa de' miei occhi non [è più] appo me.

My heat is pounding heavily, and all my strength is gone. I am no longer able to see well.

11 I miei amici ed i miei compagni se ne stanno di rincontro alla mia piaga; Ed i miei prossimi si fermano da lungi.

My friends and neighbors stay away from me because of my sores; even my own family stays away from me.

12 E questi che cercano l'anima mia [mi] tendono delle reti; E quelli che procacciano il mio male parlano di malizie, E ragionano di frodi tuttodì.

And those who want to kill me set traps to catch me; those who want to harm me discuss ways to get rid of me; they plot against me all day.

13 Ma io, come [se fossi] sordo, non ascolto; E [son] come un mutolo che non apre la bocca.

Now I act like I’m deaf, and do not listen [to what they say]. I act like I cannot talk, so I say nothing [to reply to them].

14 E son come un uomo che non ode; E [come uno] che non ha replica alcuna in bocca.

I act like a man who does not answer [when people talk to him], because he cannot hear anything.

15 Perciocchè, o Signore, io ti aspetto, Tu risponderai, o Signore Iddio mio.

But Yahweh, I trust in you. My Lord God, you will answer me.

16 Perciocchè io ho detto: [Fa]' che non si rallegrino di me; Quando il mio piè vacilla, essi s'innalzano contro a me.

I said to you, “Do not cause [me to die, with the result that] my enemies will rejoice! Do not cause me to stumble, with the result that they will be very happy!”

17 Mentre son tutto presto a cadere, E la mia doglia [è] davanti a me del continuo;

I say that because I am about to fall down, and I constantly have pain.

18 Mentre io dichiaro la mia iniquità, [E] sono angosciato per lo mio peccato;

I confess the wrong things that I have done; I am [very] sorry for the sins that I have committed.

19 I miei nemici vivono, e si fortificano; E quelli che mi odiano a torto s'ingrandiscono.

My enemies are healthy and strong; there are many people who hate me for no reason.

20 Quelli, [dico], che mi rendono mal per bene; Che mi sono avversari, in iscambio di ciò che ho [loro] procacciato del bene.

Those who do evil things to me in return for my doing good things to them oppose me because I try to do what is right.

21 Signore, non abbandonarmi; Dio mio, non allontanarti da me.

Yahweh, do not abandon me! My God, do not stay far from me!

22 Affrettati al mio aiuto, O Signore, mia salute.

Lord, you are the one who saves/rescues me; Quickly [come and] help me!
