Salmi 17

1 Mictam di Davide O SIGNORE, ascolta la giustizia, attendi al mio grido, Porgi l'orecchio alla mia orazione, [che io ti fo] senza labbra di frode.

A prayer of David. Hearken, O Lord of my righteousness, attend to my petition; give ear to my prayer not [uttered] with deceitful lips.

2 Proceda il mio giudicio dalla tua presenza; Gli occhi tuoi veggano le diritture.

Let my judgment come forth from thy presence; let mine eyes behold righteousness.

3 Tu hai provato il mio cuore, tu [l]'hai visitato di notte; Tu mi hai messo al cimento, e non hai trovato [nulla]; La mia bocca non trapassa il mio pensiero.

Thou has proved mine heart; thou hast visited [me] by night; thou hast tried me as with fire, and unrighteousness has not been found in me: [I am purposed] that my mouth shall not speak [amiss].

4 Nelle opere degli uomini, per la parola della tue labbra, Io mi son guardato dalle vie de' violenti.

As for the works of men, by the words of thy lips I have guarded [myself from] hard ways.

5 Sostieni i miei passi ne' tuoi sentieri, Acciocchè i miei piedi non vacillino.

Direct my steps in thy paths, that my steps slip not.

6 Io t'invoco, o Dio, perciocchè tu mi esaudisci; Inchina a me il tuo orecchio, ascolta le mie parole.

I have cried, for thou heardest me, O God: incline thine ear to me, and hearken to my words.

7 Dimostra maravigliose le tue benignità, O tu, che, con la tua destra, salvi quelli che si confidano [in te], Da quelli che si levano [contro a loro].

Shew the marvels of thy mercies, thou that savest them that hope in thee.

8 Guardami come la pupilla dell'occhio, Nascondimi sotto l'ombra delle tue ale,

Keep me as the apple of the eye from those that resist thy right hand: thou shalt screen me by the covering of thy wings,

9 D'innanzi agli empi che mi disertano; E [d'innanzi] a' miei mortali nemici [che] mi circondano.

from the face of the ungodly that have afflicted me: mine enemies have compassed about my soul.

10 Son tutti massicci di grasso, Parlano altieramente colla lor bocca.

They have enclosed [themselves with] their own fat: their mouth has spoken pride.

11 Ora c'intorniano, [seguitandoci] alla traccia; Mirano con gli occhi, per atterrar[ci];

They have now cast me out and compassed me round about: they have set their eyes [so as] to bow them down to the ground.

12 Somigliano un leone che brama di lacerare; E un leoncello che dimora in nascondimenti.

They laid wait for me as a lion ready for prey, and like a lion's whelp dwelling in secret [places].

13 Levati, o Signore, va' loro incontro per affrontarli; abbattili; Riscuoti l'anima mia dall'empio [col]la tua spada;

Arise, O Lord, prevent them, and cast them down: deliver my soul from the ungodly: [draw] thy sword,

14 O Signore, [riscuotila col]la tua mano dagli uomini, dagli uomini del mondo, La cui parte [è] in [questa] vita, E il cui ventre tu empi delle tue conserve; Onde i [lor] figliuoli son saziati, E lasciano il lor rimanente a' lor piccoli fanciulli.

because of the enemies of thine hand: O Lord, destroy them from the earth; scatter them in their life, though their belly has been filled with thy hidden [treasures]: they have been satisfied with uncleanness, and have left the remnant [of their possessions] to their babes.

15 Quant'[è] a me, per giustizia vedrò la tua faccia; Io sarò saziato della tua sembianza, quando io mi risveglierò.

But I shall appear in righteousness before thy face: I shall be satisfied when thy glory appears.
