Proverbi 3
1 Figliuol mio, non dimenticare il mio insegnamento; E il cuor tuo guardi i miei comandamenti;
[My] son, forget not my laws; but let thine heart keep my words:
2 Perchè ti aggiungeranno lunghezza di giorni, Ed anni di vita, e prosperità.
for length of existence, and years of life, and peace, shall they add to thee.
3 Benignità e verità non ti abbandoneranno; Legateli in su la gola, scrivili in su la tavola del tuo cuore;
Let not mercy and truth forsake thee; but bind them about thy neck:
4 E tu troverai grazia e buon senno Appo Iddio, ed appo gli uomini.
so shalt thou find favour: and do thou provide things honest in the sight of the Lord, and of men.
5 Confidati nel Signore con tutto il tuo cuore; E non appoggiarti in su la tua prudenza.
Trust in God with all thine heart; and be not exalted in thine own wisdom.
6 Riconoscilo in tutte le tue vie, Ed egli addirizzerà i tuoi sentieri.
In all thy ways acquaint thyself with her, that she may rightly direct thy paths.
7 Non reputarti savio appo te stesso; Temi il Signore, e ritratti dal male.
Be not wise in thine own conceit; but fear God, and depart from all evil.
8 [Ciò] sarà una medicina al tuo bellico, Ed un inaffiamento alle tue ossa.
Then shall there be health to thy body, and good keeping to thy bones.
9 Onora il Signore con le tue facoltà, E con le primizie d'ogni tua rendita;
Honour the Lord with thy just labours, and give him the first of thy fruits of righteousness:
10 Ed i tuoi granai saran ripieni di beni in ogni abbondanza, E le tue tina traboccheranno di mosto.
that thy storehouses may be completely filled with corn, and that thy presses may burst forth with wine.
11 Figliuol mio, non disdegnar la correzione del Signore; E non ti rincresca il suo gastigamento;
[My] son, despise not the chastening of the Lord; nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:
12 Perciocchè il Signore gastiga chi egli ama; Anzi come un padre il figliuolo [ch]'egli gradisce.
for whom the Lord loves, he rebukes, and scourges every son whom he receives.
13 Beato l'uomo che ha trovata sapienza, E l'uomo che ha ottenuto intendimento.
Blessed is the man who has found wisdom, and the mortal who knows prudence.
14 Perciocchè il traffico di essa [è] migliore che il traffico dell'argento, E la sua rendita [è migliore] che l'oro.
For it is better to traffic for her, than for treasures of gold and silver.
15 Ella [è] più preziosa che le perle; E tutto ciò che tu hai di più caro non la pareggia.
And she is more valuable than precious stones: no evil thing shall resist her: she is well known to all that approach her, and no precious thing is equal to her in value.
16 Lunghezza di giorni è alla sua destra; Ricchezza e gloria alla sua sinistra.
For length of existence and years of life are in her right hand; and in her left hand are wealth and glory: out of her mouth proceeds righteousness, and she carries law and mercy upon her tongue.
17 Le sue vie [son] vie dilettevoli, E tutti i suoi sentieri [sono] pace.
Her ways are good ways, and all her paths are peaceful.
18 Ella [è] un albero di vita a quelli che si appigliano ad essa; E beati coloro che la ritengono.
She is a tree of life to all that lay hold upon her; and she is [a] secure [help] to all that stay themselves on her, as on the Lord.
19 Il Signore ha fondata la terra con sapienza; Egli ha stabiliti i cieli con intendimento.
God by wisdom founded the earth, and by prudence he prepared the heavens.
20 Per lo suo conoscimento gli abissi furono fessi, E l'aria stilla la rugiada.
By understanding were the depths broken up, and the clouds dropped water.
21 Figliuol mio, non dipartansi giammai [queste cose] dagli occhi tuoi; Guarda la ragione e l'avvedimento;
[My] son, let [them] not pass from [thee], but keep my counsel and understanding:
22 E quelle saranno vita all'anima tua, E grazia alla tua gola.
that thy soul may live, and that there may be grace round thy neck; and it shall be health to thy flesh, and safety to thy bones:
23 Allora camminerai sicuramente per la tua via, Ed il tuo piè non incapperà.
that thou mayest go confidently in peace in all thy ways, and that thy foot may not stumble.
24 Quando tu giacerai, non avrai spavento; E [quando] tu ti riposerai, il tuo sonno sarà dolce.
For if thou rest, thou shalt be undismayed; and if thou sleep, thou shalt slumber sweetly.
25 Tu non temerai di subito spavento, Nè della ruina degli empi, quando ella avverrà.
And thou shalt not be afraid of alarm coming upon thee, neither of approaching attacks of ungodly men.
26 Perciocchè il Signore sarà al tuo fianco, E guarderà il tuo piè, che non sia preso.
For the Lord shall be over all thy ways, and shall establish thy foot that thou be not moved.
27 Non negare il bene a quelli a cui è dovuto, Quando è in tuo potere di far[lo].
Forbear not to do good to the poor, whensoever thy hand may have [power] to help [him].
28 Non dire al tuo prossimo: Va', e torna, E domani te [lo] darò, se tu [l]'hai appo te.
Say not, Come back another time, to-morrow I will give; while thou art able to do [him] good: for thou knowest not what the next day will bring forth.
29 Non macchinare alcun male contro al tuo prossimo Che abita in sicurtà teco.
Devise not evil against thy friend, living near thee and trusting in thee.
30 Non litigar con alcuno senza cagione, S'egli non ti ha fatto alcun torto.
Be not ready to quarrel with a man without a cause, lest he do thee some harm.
31 Non portare invidia all'uomo violento, E non eleggere alcuna delle sue vie.
Procure not the reproaches of bad men, neither do thou covet their ways.
32 Perciocchè l'[uomo] perverso [è] cosa abbominevole al Signore; Ma [egli comunica] il suo consiglio con gli [uomini] diritti.
For every transgressor is unclean before the Lord; neither does he sit among the righteous.
33 La maledizione del Signore [è] nella casa dell'empio; Ma egli benedirà la stanza de' giusti.
The curse of God is in the houses of the ungodly; but the habitations of the just are blessed.
34 Se egli schernisce gli schernitori, Dà altresì grazia agli umili.
The Lord resists the proud; but he gives grace to the humble.
35 I savi possederanno la gloria; Ma gli stolti se ne portano ignominia.
The wise shall inherit glory; but the ungodly have exalted [their own] dishonour.
