Proverbi 28
1 Gli empi fuggono, senza che alcuno li perseguiti; Ma i giusti stanno sicuri, come un leoncello.
The ungodly [man] flees when no one pursues: but the righteous is confident as a lion.
2 [Come] il paese, per li suoi misfatti, cangia spesso di principe; Così, per amor degli uomini savi ed intendenti, [Il principe] vive lungamente.
By reason of the sins of ungodly men quarrels arise; but a wise man will quell them.
3 L'uomo povero, che oppressa i miseri, [È come] una pioggia strabocchevole, che fa che non vi è del pane.
A bold man oppresses the poor by ungodly deeds. As an impetuous and profitable rain,
4 Coloro che lasciano la Legge lodano gli empi; Ma coloro che la guardano fanno loro la guerra.
so they that forsake the law praise ungodliness; but they that love the law fortify themselves with a wall.
5 Gli uomini dati al male non intendono la dirittura; Ma quelli che cercano il Signore intendono ogni cosa.
Evil men will not understand judgment: but they that seek the Lord will understand everything.
6 Meglio [vale] il povero che cammina nella sua integrità, Che il perverso [che cammina] per due vie, benchè egli [sia] ricco.
A poor man walking in truth is better than a rich liar.
7 Chi guarda la Legge [è] figliuolo intendente; Ma chi è compagno de' ghiottoni fa vergogna a suo padre.
A wise son keeps the law: but he that keeps up debauchery dishonours his father.
8 Chi accresce i suoi beni con usura e con interesse, Li aduna per colui che dona a' poveri.
He that increases his wealth by usuries and [unjust] gains, gathers it for him that pities the poor.
9 Chi rivolge indietro l'orecchio, per non udir la Legge, La sua orazione altresì [sarà] in abbominio.
He that turns away his ear from hearing the law, even he has made his prayer abominable.
10 Chi travia gli [uomini] diritti per via cattiva. Caderà egli stesso nella sua fossa; Ma gli [uomini] intieri erederanno il bene.
He that causes upright men to err in an evil way, himself shall fall into destruction: transgressor also shall pass by prosperity, but shall not enter into it.
11 Il ricco si reputa savio; Ma il povero intendente l'esamina.
A rich man is wise in his own conceit; but an intelligent poor man will condemn him.
12 Quando i giusti trionfano, la gloria [è] grande; Ma quando gli empi sorgono, gli uomini son ricercati.
By reason of the help of righteous men great glory arises: but in the places of the ungodly men are caught.
13 Chi copre i suoi misfatti non prospererà; Ma chi [li] confessa, e [li] lascia, otterrà misericordia.
He that covers his own ungodliness shall not prosper: but he that blames [himself] shall be loved.
14 Beato l'uomo che si spaventa del continuo; Ma chi indura il suo cuore caderà nel male.
Blessed is the man who religiously fears always: but the hard of heart shall fall into mischiefs.
15 Un signore empio, [che signoreggia] sopra un popolo povero, [È] un leon ruggente, ed un orso affamato.
A hungry lion and a thirsty wolf [is he], who, being poor, rules over a poor nation.
16 Un rettore privo di ogni prudenza fa anche molte storsioni; [Ma] quel che odia l'avarizia prolungherà i [suoi] giorni.
A king in need of revenues is a great oppressor: but he that hates injustice shall live a long time.
17 L'uomo che fa violenza nel sangue alle persone, Fuggirà fino alla fossa, e niuno lo potrà sostenere.
He that becomes surety for a man charged with murder shall be an exile, and not in safety. Chasten thy son, and he shall love thee, and give honour to thy soul: he shall not obey a sinful nation.
18 Chi cammina in integrità sarà salvo; Ma il perverso, [che cammina] per due vie, caderà in un tratto.
He that walks justly is assisted: but he that walks in crooked ways shall be entangled [therein].
19 Chi lavora la sua terra sarà saziato di pane; Ma chi va dietro agli uomini da nulla sarà saziato di povertà.
He that tills his own land shall be satisfied with bread: but he that follows idleness shall have plenty of poverty.
20 L'uomo leale [avrà] molte benedizioni; Ma chi si affretta di arricchire non sarà tenuto innocente.
A man worthy of credit shall be much blessed: but the wicked shall not be unpunished.
21 [Egli] non [è] bene di aver riguardo alla qualità delle persone; E per un boccon di pane l'uomo commette misfatto.
He that reverences not the persons of the just is not good: such a one will sell a man for a morsel of bread.
22 Chi si affretta di arricchire [è] uomo d'occhio maligno, E non sa che povertà gli avverrà.
An envious man makes haste to be rich, and knows not that the merciful man will have the mastery over him.
23 Chi riprende alcuno [ne] avrà in fine maggior grazia Che chi lo lusinga con la lingua.
He that reproves a man's ways shall have more favour than he that flatters with the tongue.
24 Chi ruba suo padre e sua madre, E dice: Non [vi è] misfatto alcuno, [È] compagno del ladrone.
He that casts off father or mother, and thinks he sins not; the same is partaker with an ungodly man.
25 Chi ha l'animo gonfio muove contese; Ma chi si confida nel Signore sarà ingrassato.
An unbelieving man judges rashly: but he that trusts in the Lord will act carefully.
26 Chi si confida nel suo cuore è stolto; Ma chi cammina in sapienza scamperà.
He that trusts to a bold heart, such an one is a fool: but he that walks in wisdom shall be safe.
27 Chi dona al povero non [avrà] alcun bisogno; Ma chi nasconde gli occhi [da esso] avrà molte maledizioni.
He that gives to the poor shall not be in want: but he that turns away his eye [from him] shall be in great distress.
28 Quando gli empi sorgono, gli uomini si nascondono; Ma quando periscono, i giusti moltiplicano.
In the places of ungodly [men] the righteous mourn: but in their destruction the righteous shall be multiplied.
