Proverbi 16
1 Le disposizioni dell'animo [son] dell'uomo; Ma la risposta della lingua [è] dal Signore.
All the works of the humble [man] are manifest with God; but the ungodly shall perish in an evil day.
2 Tutte le vie dell'uomo gli paiono pure; Ma il Signore pesa gli spiriti.
3 Rimetti le tue opere nel Signore, E i tuoi pensieri saranno stabiliti.
4 Il Signore ha fatto ogni cosa per sè stesso; Eziandio l'empio per lo giorno del male.
5 Chiunque è altiero d'animo [è] abbominevole al Signore; D'ora in ora egli non resterà impunito.
Every one that is proud in heart is unclean before God, and he that unjustly strikes hands with hand shall not be held guiltless. The beginning of a good way is to do justly; and it is more acceptable with God than to offer sacrifices. He that seeks the Lord shall find knowledge with righteousness: and they that rightly seek him shall find peace. All of the works of the Lord [are done] with righteousness; and the ungodly [man] is kept for the evil day.
6 L'iniquità sarà purgata con benignità, e [con] verità; E per lo timor del Signore l'uomo si ritrae dal male.
7 Quando il Signore gradisce le vie dell'uomo, Pacifica con lui eziandio i suoi nemici.
8 Meglio [vale] poco con giustizia, Che grandi entrate senza dirittura.
9 Il cuor dell'uomo delibera della sua via; Ma il Signore dirizza i suoi passi.
10 Indovinamento [è] nelle labbra del re; La sua bocca non falla nel giudicio.
[There is] an oracle upon the lips of a king; and his mouth shall not err in judgment.
11 La stadera, e le bilance giuste [son] del Signore; Tutti i pesi del sacchetto [son] sua opera.
The poise of the balance is righteousness with the Lord; and his works are righteous measures.
12 Operare empiamente [è] abbominevole ai re; Perciocchè il trono sarà stabilito per giustizia.
An evil-doer is an abomination to a king; for the throne of rule is established by righteousness.
13 Le labbra giuste [son] quelle che i re gradiscono; Ed essi amano chi parla dirittamente.
Righteous lips are acceptable to a king; and he loves right words.
14 L'ira del re [son] messi di morte; Ma l'uomo savio la placherà.
The anger of a king is a messenger of death; but a wise man will pacify him.
15 Nella chiarezza della faccia del re [vi è] vita; E la sua benevolenza [è] come la nuvola della pioggia della stagione della ricolta.
The son of a king is in the light of life; and they that are in favour with him are as a cloud of latter rain.
16 Quant'[è] egli cosa migliore acquistar sapienza che oro! E [quant'è] egli cosa più eccellente acquistar prudenza che argento!
The brood of wisdom is more to be chosen than gold, and the brood of prudence more to be chosen than silver.
17 La strada degli [uomini] diritti [è] di stornarsi dal male; Chi osserva la sua via guarda l'anima sua.
The paths of life turn aside from evil; and the ways of righteousness are length of life. He that receives instruction shall be in prosperity; and he that regards reproofs shall be made wise. He that keeps his ways, preserves his own soul; and he that loves his life will spare his mouth.
18 La superbia [viene] davanti alla ruina, E l'alterezza dello spirito davanti alla caduta.
Pride goes before destruction, and folly before a fall.
19 Meglio [è] essere umile di spirito co' mansueti, Che spartir le spoglie con gli altieri.
Better is a meek-spirited [man] with lowliness, than one who divides spoils with the proud.
20 Chi è intendente nella parola troverà bene; E beato chi si confida nel Signore.
[He who is] skillful in business finds good: but he that trusts in God is most blessed.
21 Il savio di cuore sarà chiamato intendente; E la dolcezza delle labbra aggiugnerà dottrina.
[Men] call the wise and understanding evil: but they that are pleasing in speech shall hear more.
22 Il senno [è] una fonte di vita in coloro che ne son dotati; Ma l'ammaestramento degli stolti [è] stoltizia.
Understanding is a fountain of life to its possessors; but the instruction of fools is evil.
23 Il cuor del[l'uomo] savio rende avveduta la sua bocca, E aggiunge dottrina alle sue labbra.
The heart of the wise will discern the [things which proceed] from his own mouth; and on his lips he will wear knowledge.
24 I detti soavi [sono] un favo di miele, Dolcezza all'anima, e medicina alle ossa.
Good words are honeycombs, and the sweetness thereof is a healing of the soul.
25 Vi è tal via che pare diritta all'uomo, Il fine della quale [son] le vie della morte.
There are ways that seem to be right to a man, but the end of them looks to the depth of hell. (questioned)
26 L'anima di chi si affatica si affatica per lui stesso; Perciocchè la sua bocca lo preme.
A man who labours, labours for himself, and drives from [him] his own ruin.
27 L'uomo scellerato apparecchia del male; E in su le sue labbra [vi è] come un fuoco ardente.
But the perverse bears destruction upon his own mouth: a foolish man digs up evil for himself, and treasures fire on his own lips.
28 L'uomo perverso commette contese; E chi va sparlando disunisce gli amici.
A perverse man spreads mischief, and will kindle a torch of deceit with mischiefs; and he separates friends.
29 L'uomo violento seduce il suo compagno, E lo conduce per una via [che] non [è] buona.
A transgressor tries [to ensnare] friends, and leads them in ways [that are] not good.
30 Chi chiude gli occhi macchinando perversità, Dimena le labbra [quando] ha compiuto il male.
And the man that fixes his eyes devises perverse things, and marks out with his lips all evil: he is a furnace of wickedness.
31 La canutezza [è] una corona gloriosa; Ella si troverà nella via della giustizia.
Old age is a crown of honour, but it is found in the ways of righteousness.
32 Meglio vale chi è lento all'ira, che il forte; E [meglio vale] chi signoreggia il suo cruccio, che un prenditor di città.
A man slow to anger is better than a strong [man]; and he that governs [his] temper better than he that takes a city.
33 La sorte è gittata nel grembo; Ma dal Signore [procede] tutto il giudicio di essa.
All [evils] come upon the ungodly into [their] bosoms; but all righteous things [come] of the Lord.
